We stopped here for lunch in the way home from the beach, and had the buffet. Good, filling traditional southern food. Exceptional fried chicken. Lots of older folks enjoying the $ 7.69 buffet.

If you’re looking for no-nonsense country fried steak, sometimes known as chicken-fried, you’ll love this place. Double dipped in a flavorful breading and hard fried for a delightful presentation with your choice of gravy. The onion gravy is my favorite. No namby-pamby, cut with a fork, slow-cooked top round, country style here. Put some muscle in it with a sawing motion and you’ll be rewarded with a mouth-pleasing taste treat — that’s the way they do it in Williamston. Don’t be misled by the menu. You’ll find this Martin County speciality listed as Country Style Steak. Be sure to tell the waitress what you want and she, bless her heart, will make it happen. The sandwiches look scrumptious also. You may want to try one while you wait for your meal. That’s the way it’s done in Williamston.

Good down-home southern cuisine. It’s a favorite spot anytime I visit Williamston.

A good country cooking spot in Williamston. If you’re in town for an event at the Ag Center or on your way to the Outer Banks its a good, low cost stop for some standard country fare. There is a salad bar, while limited, has everything one would expect from a salad bar. They have ribs on Thursday nights(which I understand are amazing and sell out if you don’t order in advance). The menu items I’ve had are all good and very reasonably priced.

Barbecue Chicken isn’t chicken in a watery tomato sauce. That is what I got when I ordered the BBQ Chicken special on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010. The sauce was like the watery sweet tomato sauce that comes in a can of cheap pork-n-beans. It had nothing added to it and they hadn’t even baked it on or let it thicken on the chicken. I told the cachier to tell the cook that I «hated» the chicken and I wished she had wiped the BBQ Chicken off the board before I had ordered it… which by the way she had wiped off the board, before I came up to pay. If this is how they always fix BBQ Chicken, I pity anyone that orders it. — The salad bar was okay. The fried okra were crisp. The slaw was good. I liked the sweet tea. But, I got ripped off on the BBQ Chicken and left most of it on the plate. I tried it three times, and finally told myself, «No matter what they say, this ISN’T BBQ Chicken!»

One of the few non-fast food places to eat in Williamston. As the previous reviewer commented, it is good food for a decent price. I had the hamburger steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, corn, and the salad bar. It was filling and reasonably priced. The salad bar was too limited for my liking, and not a good value for the money. Mashed potatoes were creamy, and the gravy was flavorful. Hamburger steak was an ample serving.

This place is down home, small town, country cooking. And good for what it is. When we were staying in Williamston for work back in 2006, we ate here once a week. Not a fancy gourmet place by any means, but you’ll get plenty of good food for a decent price. I never had a bad meal here and have probably eaten at Shamrock a dozen times. This is my #2 place in Williamston, after Sunnyside Oyster Bar.
