Went in for a bite at 8pm last night but was told the kitchen was closed. We were the only ones in there and they were transitioning into the night scene I guess. Still very early. But the owner Javier saw we were hungry and before we finished our first beer the owner Javier had the grills fired up and was cooking up some specials for us to share. AMAZINGFOOD. Beef empanditas, Short ribs with French fries and Tacos! Honestly the ribs(off-menu) were the best part, fell right off the bone and the French fries were hand cut by Javier to be almost like Papas Fritas. They soaked up the juices and fats from the ribs perfect without getting soggy. Some of the best, full stuffed tacos I’ve ever had too. And the homemade sauces were on point! Definitely check this place out Javier will take care of you. Ask what he has off menu too because he definitely has a passion for feeding people delicious food!

For the life of me I can’t imagine why this place doesn’t have a LOT of great reviews. Highlights: my husband had a huge plate of pork mole with accompaniments and loved it; my(relatively timid) choice of three corn tacos, each filled with a different meat, was delicious served with a house-made tomatillo/green chili sauce. The food is fresh, healthy, and where possible, locally sourced. The owner, Javier, who welcomed us warmly, had a few special recommendations that sounded amazing(mufungo topped with shrimp among them). We promised to come back and explore the menu — and his off-menu offerings — more. What a great experience! Anyone within 50 miles of Our Place should give it a try! It’s directly across from the restored thread mills building.

Mole, mole, mole(pronounced, «mow-lay»). Went to «Our Place» tonight since I was pretty done with baking in the kitchen and it was clean. I wasn’t disappointed with what I ordered. I ordered a pork mole that had a delicate, tasty saucy. The sauce made for a nice way to flavor the rice which came in a huge mound. The black beans added to the flavors on my plate, too. And thankfully, there was actually something green on my plate, too(salad). With so many carbs, I was glad for the salad! Javier, the owner, greeted us. Told us about specials, about plans for upcoming events at the restaurant(they are currently doing an hour of salsa lessons on Fridays with a professional teacher), his menu items that he is still working on, and showed us around the place. The place, at least from the outside, had been a pretty divey joint. I wouldn’t even go in there! But the restaurant we went into was comfortable and clean. Jaview offered us a complimentary, fresh squeezed lemonade. It was spectacular! Even on a winter night, it still was refreshing and tasty. It was a nice added touch to the evening. And an introduction to his girlfriend was nice, too! I tried my husband’s order, too. It was really good. It was a chicken enchilada trio with a mole sauce. I guess we were all in the mole mood! Since liquor is served, «Our Place» is open till 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. I applaud Javier(who I later found is my neighbor) and his efforts to offer the Town of Willimantic and the Arts and Eats District his newest gem. In the future, he has big plans to expand to outdoor dining with reservations. If you have a hankering for something tasty and a little different than the ordinary, go to «Our Place!»

The warm, inviting greeting the moment you arrive and the spotless, spacious surroundings with red tablecloths signal your entry into a newly-opened, special restaurant experience. A blend of Spanish, Mexican and Central American food is served in ample portions, all with excellent recommendations and fine service… Try that wonderful limeade… Go! Enjoy ! H and H
