The reviews here are pretty much spot on. Huge portions and poor /rude service. The food is average at best. I’ve been here a few times and it’s the same deal every time, no matter day or time it’s fairly busy and you will probably have a wait. Once inside the waitresses are surly and inattentive, I’ve actually had them tell me «it’s gonna be a while before I get to you«and it is ten to twenty minutes before she comes back for drink order. The food is average and nothing special to support this type of behavior and service.

Solid diner. Food is good, portions are huge(definitely get a side of bacon!), and prices are reasonable. The service is average, and there’s very little atmosphere, but it serves its purpose well!

Fantastic food. Can be a tad noisy, but the service is quick and friendly, and the food is worth waiting for. The only draw back is that they use pancake syrup instead of real maple syrup, but that seems to be a common problem.

Best breakfast spot ever. Huge portions, great food, fast average service, loud and lots of people this spot fits every diner characteristic imaginable. I love it. Tips: Late Sunday Mornings it may be hard to get a seat. So wake up a little early!

Excellent food and lots of it. If you leave hungry, it’s your own fault. I had an enormous omelette, which they allowed me to include kielbasa from a daily special even though it wasn’t on the menu. My companion had biscuits and sausage gravy that rivaled any I’ve had in the south. Their version of two eggs seems more like four. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Don’t mind the barking from the cook so the servers will pick up orders, his bark is worse than his bite. :)

Rude and inefficient. Give it a miss

We love the food and the atmosphere is fun-although maybe not for everyone. The kitchen guys are yelling a lot and it’s loud but it’s fun. We go for the biscuits and gravy and kielbasa with home fries. Reasonably priced.

I can’t stand this place. Sure, the prices are reasonable especially for the giant portions. But I’d rather pay more money for less food that actually tasted good. The waitresses are all old unfriendly women with bad attitudes and they provide awful service. Inattentive at best, and closer to rude. There are really good breakfast places in town, I never understand why people still go here. The only thing I hear people have positive to say is that they love the portion size. Which I actually think is just wasteful, because most people leave so much food on their plates because everything is ridiculously sized. ‘Murica I guess. Try That Breakfast Place or Nita’s in willimantic! Venture out to Coventry and try Meet Me On Main. Don’t eat here.

Nothing homemade. Chlorine water. Excessive noise levels especially from the cook who feels the need to beat the grill extra loud like a red headed step child. Big portions warrant 2 stars otherwise there are better choices around.

My husband and I love Thread City, we typically get it to go, mostly since there is usually a line. It truly is a local place, friends and neighbors sit among the local college students, that quickly realized your buck goes further here than most places! We normally get the Molly” egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich on grilled Texas toast. And you DONOT, need a magnifying glass to find the bacon, almost too much bacon, if that’s at all possible!!! Also, believe it or not, there is bacon in the potatoes! So if you love the diversity in this little town, you cant help but love this hometown diner! ONLYNEGATIVE, THECLOSEATNOON! Oh, and we find the help very pleasant, may get crankie with non tippers, but no complaints here!

Fuck these assholes. The woman said«you have to wait guys.» I was just trying to put my name in. Some goddamn hospitality would be much appreciated…

* Excellent, Pretty Diner, But Closes At Noon Everyday * I’ve dined here many times. Had pancakes, fresh toast, egg dishes, home fries. All were very good. Not a lot of finese but hey — this is a diner, not some fancy-schmanzy joint. And I disagree with one review that called it «greasy diner food.» Diners aren’t Health Food establishments — and as diners go, I would NOT say the food here is «greasy,» at least not in my experience here. The service ranged from average to very good. Coffee is excellent. It’s a terrific spot for a diner. On the corner of what appears to be a fairly old Main Street building, it’s got high ceilings, old wood floors and comfortable tables and booths. The only downside to Thread City Diner is their early closing time: At least as of last time I was there(2013), they close at NOON everyday. I don’t fault them for it – just be advised. That one drawback not withstanding, this is a great little place! * Phil

Possibly the greatest diner of all time. Their serving portions are unreal. Their bacon is the best around nice big and crispy. My favorites are the bacon egg and cheese and the blt. If you like pancakes order just one and you will be full. Park at willibrew next door or schoolhouse lane and walk over if there’s no spots closer. They close at noon so you have to go early if you want breakfast. Sometimes Ill even call in a sandwich for pickup

Good greasy diner food. After a long night at Uconn or Eastern my friends and I always end up here in the morning. Its pretty standard diner food, nothing out of the ordinary. The waitresses are always polite and fun. The omelettes are enormous. I’ve never been able to finish one, so they’re good for taking home too.

It’s a tie between this place and Nita’s down the street as the best breakfast restaurants in this area… Problem with Nita’s is the incredible long wait… Thread City has the biggest plate sized pancakes… Huge portions… Fresh breads… Awesome staff

I’m so grateful this place is a 2 minute walk from my dorm. The portions are absolutely huge and I have not been disappointed yet. It would be more convenient if they stayed open later than noon though. It’s always quite warm in the restaurant however which will be nice once it gets colder out. Ill def be coming here for a long time!

You want diner food? This is where you’ll get it. You can even special order stuff. Like, I like my hash with crispiness so I ask for it. In addition, I seem to always get another egg when I order something like poached eggs. They are good and runny! My husband and I have gone here for a Sunday morning date for years now. The service is friendly, the prices reasonable, and we can both eat for under $ 20 including the tip and taking some leftovers home in a doggie bag. Locals meet here for conversation, meetings, and just«happen» to see their friends along the way. I love this place for its friendly service, noisy grillmaster(Andy works hard to get your food to you as fast as he can!), and their Big Willy and Philly Cheesesteak Omlette. They are enough to feed 2 – 3 people! If you go home hungry, it’s your own fault! Beautiful artwork on the side of the building by Nicholas Khan. That stack of pancakes on the wall should really get you salivating! Just another Arts and Eats District winner as far as food on Main Street in Downtown Romantic Willimantic!

I like this place. Very inexpensive and huge portions. Their omelettes cannot be eaten in one sitting. They are huge and also come with toast and homefries. My boyfriend’s favorite is the biscuits and gravy. Reminder though: it is a diner. It’s greasy(but tastes good) and it’s fast. For a nicer Sunday breakfast with the family I would go to Nita’s down the street. The menu is limited. You have pancakes and waffles and tons of combinations of meat + eggs + toast + homefries. I usually end up ordering the same thing without any debate between 2 or 3 items. Everything is relatively the same. You won’t see crepes, quiches, or breakfast pastries on the specials board. My only qualm is the limited specials which always include biscuits and gravy and massive egg and meat plates. My absolute favorite breakfast special is eggs benedict, which i consider any diner staple on the weekends. My other favorite diner-esque place is Bea’s in Coventry. Same caliber food and prices, but they have eggs benedict every weekend as well as some other creations on their«specials» menu. If you and your friends are really hungry, short on money, and, or trying to cure that UConn or Eastern hangover I’d say it’s the perfect place to go.

How is it 2011 and Thread City Diner hasn’t been reviewed on Unilocal?Makes no sense…(oh, no wonder why I couldn’t check in with my iPhone searching nearby places in Willimantic) First, the place is jam-packed. Second, the food was great(might explain why it was so busy). I’ll get the one missing star out of the way — there’s slow because you’re busy, slow because you’re better than a grille cook working at a diner and can’t manage the demanding pace of a huge diner packed to the sidewalk with patrons, and then there’s Friendly’s(where’s my F-bombin’ food already?!) slow… When you’re really hungry any kind of slow makes the corner of the table look appetizing. I have to put Thread City not quite in Friendly’s class(that would be too mean). On the plus side — the western omelet with cheddar was the size of an average diner placemat and thickness approaching a quiche. Cooked to perfection, I liked the not too small, not too big sized cuts of ingredients. I had grilled sourdough toast. I was expecting something skimpy. I apparently got the center cut of the loaf — 2HUGE pieces — DEElish! Homefries were that perfect crispy-not-too-crispy outside. My girlfriend’s side of bacon was heartstopping yummy massive slices. Everything at this place is massive. Well, my Diet Coke wasn’t massive, but the service on the refill was good and our waitress was courteous about the delay with our food. Overall, a great diner outing in the end. 6′ 3″ and I probably packed on 5 lbs. before I left and I couldn’t clear the plate. That’s a winner! Can’t wait to go back.
