They are friendly — like a family — and yet provide some of the the highest quality products and professional installation work I have ever had from a contractor in this area or others. The company has provided both order-to-size shades for an apartment I had in New York — the flat roller shades like some offices have that help filter sun — and has done a home installation for me in my larger VT house now where they were on-site to deal with some tricky installation issues. The rollershades — which I just took a gamble on color-wise since I couldn’t tell the difference of one hue to another — were so gorgeous and they weren’t hard to install. An added bonus was how high-quality their cords /chains are. In my current house we had to get a kid-friendly cord, but it’s so much better than those old ones that tangle at the touch. As far as cost — it’s like going out to a really nice dinner. You don’t do this a lot, so do it up right when you do. You don’t want to pay for your shades more than once — and if you’ve bought the cheap ones you know you have to eventually. Or they’ll get all tangled or wonky-sided at some point, and you’ll relegate them to a space where you don’t need to fuss with them much. These are so high quality, and so easy to clean, you’ll be glad you planned to pay for the good ones. The rollershades wound up along my south-facing wall of windows in Brooklyn, and I put them in at the start of summer in 2009. All summer you could feel a noticable difference every time they went down, and the room stayed cooler than ever before — saving me money on the AC! We haven’t had a winter yet with the thermal shades but am looking forward to seeing a bit of a dip in our gas costs, since their honeycomb is both bigger than the stuff you buy at home depot, and a higher quality fabric. They managed to do an install in a very narrow window frame we have, and were friendly and fast. Highest accolades for this great locally owned and manufactured line of products! We are actually getting a quote on a valance now for the first time using a specialty fabric we had — so will update when I learn more.

This summer we funally decided to do something about the terrible venetian shades in our sunroom. We called Gordon’s, and they sent out an estimator, Kyle, to look at the job. We ordered the EcoSmart Insulating Cellular shades, which are manufactured in Vermont. We needed 4 shades for the ceiling windows that required tracks and 4 shades for the vertical windows with pull cords. We selected a color from the large choice of samples, and Kyle gave us an estimate… which caused us to gulp! These are expensive shades. We swallowed hard and placed the order, writing a check for a deposit. About 4 to 6 weeks later, the shades arrived with an installer to ensure the job was done right. I had previously removed the remnants of the existing units(which were falling apart because the plastic holding the slats had deteriorated in the heat and sunlight and were breaking… only 16 years old). The installer did a great job! We are thrilled with the look and ease of use. Now that the weather is getting colder and we are using the woodstove, I notice that there may be some condensation issues we didn’t have before. Before, there was NO insulation benefit from the venetian blinds, so we didn’t have a condensation issue. The new shades do provide some insulation, and I hope the condensation stops once the humidity in the house dries up as we use the wood stove more. Until then, I leave the shades open a few inches, and that seems to eliminate the problem. I haven’t spoken to Kyle about it and won’t unless the condensation continues. Overall, we are very happy with the fantastic improvement. The cost is still very high, but we’re glad we did it!
