DONOTHIRELUCKYGORMAN /GORMAN RESTORATION. I cannot express strongly enough how horrible our experience was. He was hired to rebuild a staircase in our multi-unit building. We were told it would take four days – we eventually fired him on DAY54, and the job was still not completed. Lucky hires subcontractors to do the work and they are not properly vetted. Our FIRST subcontractor not only did a terrible job on the stairs, but also stole $ 1100 in tools from us. The stairs had to be completely rebuilt again by new subcontractor. Lucky does not show up the the site to monitor progress – he only shows up when he wants another check. He will make you promises about the work that he has no intention on keeping and he will attempt to charge you for extra work that was not in the invoice. Our experience was an absolute nightmare that lasted nearly two months. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere!

Lucky Gorman did a project for me a few years ago when I lived in Chicago. I just came across his name and I’m delighted to be able to finally post a negative review for this incompetent shyster. Lucky and his guy showed up late for my job and without the the correct materials that I had carefully specified beforehand. Several trips to the hardware store and his van later and the clock ran down, with still no results. It was a comedy of errors — these guys had no clue and then tried to make it work with all the wrong parts and tools. They’d been there for three hours and ended up charging me over $ 500 plus materials. I really had no option, so I paid him. A couple of years later I had to do exactly the same job in another location at my friends house. Another contractor came in and did literally the exact same job in less than 20 minutes, and without breaking a sweat. The other contractor’s job was more structurally sound, better cosmetically, and only cost $ 60. Lucky charged me $ 500 for his incompetence. I often see Lucky’s business cards in my laundry room bulletin board, and my girlfriend’s bulletin board in her condo building’s laundry room. I try to always remove Lucky’s business cards when I see them in order to protect some unsuspecting person like myself from getting shafted. I think I’ll go on Angie’s list and post a similar report. Beware.
