Took several pairs of shoes to be repaired and they did a fine job. This is a small business and is very old school, much like a lot of the small businesses in Wilmette — everything handwritten, loves cash, etc. Since there was only one review here and it was fairly negative I felt the need to chime in, as I sincerely doubt the owner of John’s is the kind of person who monitors his Unilocal ratings. I can’t speak for buying shoes but the repair jobs were solid.

I’m not thrilled. Friday: Bought a very cute, very lightweight pair of sandals that seemed like they fit well. Saturday: Tried them on again, I realized that the fit wasn’t as good as I thought– no big deal, I’ll just take them back. Monday: The store wouldn’t put the money back on my Visa, offering me store credit instead.(Which takes the form of my name, and a number, written on a receipt slip– no additional information, not even the words ‘store credit.’ I’m not confident that I can actually redeem this store credit.) So, now I don’t have the shoes, I don’t have the money, and I have sixty bucks in credit to a store that sells two things I don’t need: shoe repair, and shoes that run a little bit on the narrow side.
