Could very well be one of my favorite places in town. This is THE place to get oysters. Ice cream, oysters, pickled whatever you can put in a jar, fish, hoop cheese, peanuts, collards, pumpkins, plants, oh my! Did I mention old time glass soda bottles in metal cooler with roll away lids? How about the market cats? No? The wooden floors? The fishing bait? The cajun peanuts sold in little bags by the register? The baskets of penny candy? This place gets jamming when oyster season arrives and when the youth soccer practice is over in the evenings. Actually, it’s crowded pretty often, but that’s part of the charm. I think there would be a hole in my heart if this place ever closed.

Great selection of fresh seafood. General store is cute and nostalgic. I stopped by on the way home from a business trip. All was well until the older gentleman at the register nearly accused me of stealing when I had to go the car to retrieve my PIN number for a new credit card. What an experience.

Great local fish and veg market. They have everything. All the fixins for a fish fry. Most of the items they sell are local and everyone is so friendly. Fish(shrimp heads on are fantastic!), farm stand, home made canned stuffs. Picked okra(best I’ve found in Wilmington), garlic and eggs. Jams and spreads. Cheese and ice cream. Why go to whole foods or HT when you can buy fish where the locals by fish. Just a short drive right across the river. You’ll be glad you did!

Sadly, I cannot agree with the other posts here. My issue does not pertain to what they carry, but rather with the cashier. I stop by this shop ocassionally when I am in this part of town for work. I’ve never had any issues until yesterday, when the cashier overcharged me. I was in a hurry, but after I left I realized what she had done. I bought about $ 3.75 of candy for my office, and a $ 1.79 soda. With tax, that should have come out to $ 5.96. BUT, she charged me $ 8.13. To make sure I wasn’t crazy, I weighed the candy when I got back to work on our scales, and it came out what it did when I weighed it in the store. I watched her weigh it, but sadly I did not watch her enter the items into the cash register. I tried to resolve this politely by calling and speaking to a manager, but apparently they either don’t have one, or he/she is never there. I was placed on hold this afternoon for 10 minutes by the same cashier who overcharged me(I know because of her distinct accent), but nobody every picked up the phone. I’m not trying to be petty or trivial over a couple dollars, but this girl was obviously trying to get one over on me. Why else would she make sure I never got to speak to a manager. She succeeded in whatever she was doing this time, but will not again. Beyond a couple phone calls and this review, I will not pursue the issue further because it’s not worth any additional time. Obviously, I cannot recommend going here. If you do, please watch the cashier VERY closely to avoid my same fate. I would highly doubt I’m the first person she has done this to.

A little off the beaten path, one of my great friends introduced me to this place. I always wondered where they got the 100s of oysters for the luaus we always had, and it time to put a face to the name! We went after my first visit to the battleship, and I tell you what– I fell in love with the place! But I never had a chance to go back, until just a few weeks ago. This time, I went on my own, and thankfully I was able to find it(as I had no idea what is called, I just remembered its location). It felt great to be back. The seafood market to the right, the fresh fruits/veggies in front, and the general store to the left. I particularly like the general store for its low prices, its nostalgia, and its selection. The entire whole right wall is filled with original recipe glass soda bottles of every flavor imaginable, there is enough type of pork product to survive an apocalypse, and there are so many different types of jams and pickled fruits/veggies. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. They have it ALL here– even cleaning supplies, fishing supplies, ice cream– hell I will stop there while I am drooling all over my shirt. The people here are very friendly too. All in all, this is a must stop by whenever you are in town, especially if you like country stores and/or seafood. I can’t wait for my next visit!

I didn’t visit the seafood part– as I live in Raleigh, and wasn’t heading home with seafood from the area. The market is worth checking out. An amazing display of homemade jelly’s, jams, preserves, marmalades and conserves. I bought several as gifts. Great prices. Haven’t tried them yet. They have a lots of interesting stuff. Totally worth a stop in and look around.

The market has fresh everything… eggs, vegetables, fish, candy and ice cream. Shelves and shelves of jams, jellys, pickles and tasty canned specialtiies. I got such a big, creamy, yummy pralines and cream ice cream cone that was just a dream with extra caramel.

Eagle Island Seafood is a one stop shop for all kinds of items. They have an enormous wall of homemade canned items from jams to pickled eggs. They also have a great deal of produce. I crossed the bridge into Brunswick Co for the seafood. The oysters are priced very reasonable and are super fresh. They come from a variety of oyster beds which are listed so you know where they are coming from when you make your selection. I also purchased shrimp and scallops. They were very fresh and so delicious. I lived in Wilmington from 5 years and did not know about Eagle Island. This will be my go to seafood provider when I am in this region.

My boyfriend introduced to this place, more so the produce/store part rather than the seafood market part. Awesome selection of local/regional homemade foods and canned products. Packed to the brim with interesting foods with great prices.
