Good sushi, My daughter had the chicken fried rice and its is some of the best I’ve tasted. Sushi is pricey if your buying sushi, the nigiri was cut to my liking and they were reasonably priced. We will be back, lots of options for sure.

If this is the best sushi in Wilmington then I weep for the other places. Genki is in a small strip mall, but I tried not to let that discourage me as my favorite sushi place back in Virginia(my home) is also in a small strip mall. I assumed being closer to the ocean would make for better sushi. Clearly that was naïve as great sushi is only available with great sushi chefs. I drove 27 minutes to get to Genki because of the high Unilocal reviews and the low ones for other sushi restaurants in the area. The ambiance inside was cozy and very Japanese which, of course, is a good sign when looking for good sushi. The employees were friendly which is the only reason I gave Genki 2 stars. As for the sushi itself? Honestly? Terrible. I couldn’t even finish it. I ordered a pretty standard meal: a California roll, a spicy California roll, a tuna avocado roll, and miso soup. The sushi rice was bitter and lacked the slight sweetness that gives sushi depth. The tuna in the tuna avocado roll was gray. The miso soup had an overpowering fishy flavor which I also did not finish. The spicy California roll was basically just a regular California roll with spicy sauce dribbled on top. I would not go here again nor would I recommend this place to anyone who knows and loves real sushi.

Best sushi in ILM. Friendly staff and great dishes you can’t find anywhere else in town. Don’t let the strip mall location fool you, this is the spot if you are craving Japanese food!

So fresh, so light. Best sushi in Wilmington! We drive almost 45 minutes to eat here and it’s so worth it. Always try the specials, the chefs are great at what they do and care about the food. Also you get homemade caramels after your meal!

I ordered take out from here and right off the bat customer service was outstanding. I walked in and they greeted me right away telling me to sit where I liked. I told them I was there for a take out order and they told me to go to the back. The waitress was super nice and asked if I wanted a drink while I was waiting for my food which I thought was really nice. While I was waited I admired their customer service it was kinda like at CiCi’s they greet you coming in and out the door but they say it in Japanese which I thought was a nice touch. For my to go order I got 2 seaweed salads, 2 California rolls, and one shrimp tempura roll. Were they the best sushi no but they were alright. When having sushi the sushi itself needs to stay in place and not breaking apart. The shrimp tempura wasn’t a issue but my California roll kept wanting to fall apart. The seaweed salad wasn’t anything to rave about. It’s not a fancy place but it has the look and smell of a sushi bar and it’s really bright and opening with the smell wasabi. Would I go there again probably not but it’s probably one of the best customer service I got here in Wilmington.

Great sushi, obviously very fresh. Good atmosphere which is nice since there are rather long wait times. Staff is normally great, however on my last visit our orders were mixed up and the staff took 4 attempts on getting the correct orders on the right tabs.

All around this place is solid. Beyond exceptional service, nice people great food. I’ll second the«the roll slices are a bit thick» comments and agree with them. If you can call that an issue it is one, however it sure won’t stop me from going back when I can!

Sushi was on point, I especially enjoyed the Salmon skin roll and the Japanese pickle(daikon) roll. They give you edamame with seaweed as a starter, and also gave us free house sake(so tasty!) since the sushi was taking a little longer than normal. At the end, you get complimentary house-made caramels. Trust me, don’t turn them down! They are so good and melt in your mouth!

This is the best sushi experience in Wilmington, no question. The customer service is beyond compare and the food is always fresh and perfect. We have been going to Genki for years, never once have we had a less than stellar experience. The prices are fantastic, especially the lunch specials. However you won’t go broke if you go all out and order everything you want(including sake) for dinner! The homemade caramels that accompany the bill at the end of the meal are just as special as everything else served there! Don’t forget to ask for some coconut cake as well. We will continue to go and recommend to all our friends. Actually, now that I remember all that is great about Genki, I think we will eat there tonight!

Absolutely authentic Japanese food, awesome hosts & servers and good prices. On top of that, consistent good quality. We’ve been to Genki about five times and we’ve ordered quite a range of their dishes. We’ve always been gladly surprised. The dishes we’ve tried include soba noodles, beef curry, a huge sushi dish(about 12 pieces), veggie gyoza and pork gyoza. Save room for ice-cream. All flavors are great.

Simply delicious! Great authentic style Japanese sushi. Sat at the bar while traveling alone. Met some very nice people. By the end, felt like family. Chef Danny’s custom makes almost all the amenities and the sushi was Amazing! Rainbow Roll, egg drop soup, edamame with hajiki seaweed, smelt roll with quail eggs and yellowtail Kama(jaw). Can’t get these and especially this quality very many places. My new Fave Sushi place in all Carolinas! Try it and you will be made to feel like family too!

This restaurant is conveniently located off new center drive, across from Target. I’ve been to this place several times, and the food never disappointed. However, since this place is quite small, you have to be prepared to wait for up to an hour for your food during peak time. Today is one of those days. We just sat there waiting forever for our meal. Bright side is the manager apologized for the long wait and gave us 50% off our check.

I DIDNOTEATATTHISRESTAURANT. I called at 3:45 pm on Friday and asked if they had a specific brand of sake. They informed me that they did. I was very excited to take a friend there. I said«Great we will see you in a few minutes!» He said«ok bye». I drove over there and they were CLOSED! Don’t open until 5pm! I WASPISSED! He should have mentioned that! On the bright side, I went Wasabi(1 mile away) and it was fabulous. See other review!

First, the service was so awesome here. Felt like it was about 1 ½ people helping each table, which was so nice. The owners were so inviting and the server was very knowledgeable and attentive. So incredibly impressed with this place! The sushi was so fresh and delicious and beautifully presented. My only small, small criticism is the sushi rolls were sliced a little too thick. It’s a lot to put in one bite! All delicious, but a little smaller would be ideal. ;) our table ordered several rolls and I ordered a bento box with teriyaki salmon. It was delicious! Came with some tempura, some seafood croquettes, which were so creamy and crunchy! It also came with steamed rice, some pickled vegetables, some shumai dumplings, and seaweed salad. It was incredible and so much food. Beautifully presented and it was just as tasty as it looked. The oxidized water here was soooo refreshing and delicious!!! I’m not a big water person, but this water was so tasty! I can’t wait to go back, I’ve been dreaming about it since we went yesterday!!!

The often elusive search for good sushi has come to an end. Having a hankering, I used the Google machine to track down a noteworthy establishment. After living in Japan and knowing what a quality, authentic sushi bar should be like, walking in and being greeted in the traditional Japanese fashion was a good indication my search was not in vain. My desires were focused towards sashimi on this day and sashimi I found. Johnny(forgive me if I spelled it wrong), a Japanese native and the purveyor of these delicacies, informed me he just got some fresh Blue Fin and Toro in stock. I chose the Blue Fin, 2 orders, and a side of fried gyoza. The gyoza came out first as my app and I could immediately tell this would live up to the gyoza I became accustomed to in Japan. Following the gyoza, Johnny handed me my 2 orders of Blue Fin on the same plate, beautifully presented with the accoutrements of pickled ginger, wasabi, and fluff material. Each order consisted of 3 slices which I would say totaled around 2 – 3 ounces so all in all, not too much but similar to other establishments I’ve visited. The Blue Fin was fresh and delicious, immediately melting in my mouth. 2 orders down and a 3rd quickly followed. I inquired about the Toro which for those that don’t know is a different cut from the same fish. It is the very fatty portion near the tuna’s stomach, very marbled and full of flavor and almost twice as expensive. The Toro exploded with flavor but I felt was a bit more firm than the standard Blue Fin cuts. I sat and conversed with Johnny and his staff for quite some time about sushi and general pleasantries. The entire staff was friendly and accommodating and at no time did I feel I was anything less than a valued customer and friend. The establishment was clean and organized with a fair amount of seating available. Music synonymous with ancient Japan was playing in the background which only added to the authentic ambiance. Don’t let the fact this little gem is tucked away in a strip mall fool you, it’s the real deal. Once again, after living in Japan, I was happy to find somewhere in the greater area that truly cares about delivery quality sushi.

Definitely the best sushi in Wilmington, hands down. The sushi/sashimi dinner was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. I walked out stuffed to the gills. Five stars for the food! That being said, as other reviewers have stated, the wait for my entrée was close to 30 minutes. Prices are a bit steep, as well — the sushi/sashimi dinner, including miso soup, a small salad, and a small appetizer, is almost $ 30 per person. I’d love to eat here more often, but sadly, Genki will have to remain a special-occasion dinner.

It is definitely about time I updated my review after visiting Genki a few times now. Genki is one of the best sushi restaurants in town because the fish they serve is much fresher than most competitors in town, and the owners really know sushi. Genki is very traditional, so if you need special rolls with lots of «extras» like sauces, toppings, etc., you won’t find much of that here. They have gotten a few«bigger» rolls, though. I do not remember them having the Rainbow roll the first time I was there, but indeed made it available my most recent visit. The servers usually start you with a complimentary seaweed & edamame salad, which is always delicious. The service, I admit, is usually pretty slow. I am always prepared to wait a little longer with sushi, but the sushi here usually takes longer than the average place. The servers usually do warn you though(last time I was here with a party of 4, and they let us know the sushi would take at least 45 minutes. The estimate was pretty accurate). In my opinion, it is always worth the wait. I can really taste the difference in the fish quality here. Since there are less special rolls available, I am always pleasantly surprised how much the bill is. I tend to spend less and am very happy to support this business. It is a husband and wife team, I believe, and you can really taste the love they put into their food. A true gem in Wilmington.
