I had a great time here. For 5 bucks you can get a tour. The lady giving the tour was extremely knowledgable and nice. She gave us a tour of the farmers house and the church. It is the oldest active church in the U.S. Has stone floors and walls. You really appreciate how difficult it had to have been to build 400 years ago. Ceiling was probably 15 ft. It is kind of near a rougher area of town. The site was nice. The staff and our guide was what won me over.

Also called«Old Swedes Church», this was the first one here in Wilmington and was eventually conquered by the Dutch. Not many of those old influences remain with their Swedish names, but this church is one of them. The weathered marker reads: «In 1638 a colony from Sweden landed at the Rocks nearby. There they built Fort Christina, worshiped therin until 1667 and then built a log church at Cranehook on South side of Christiana River. In 1698, inspired by their pastor, Eric Bjork, they erected Holy Trinity Church. The tower was added in 1802. The Church of Sweden withdrew in 1791 and was thenceforth succeeded by the Protestant Episcopal Church.»
