Been going here for years with great experiences 98% of the time. They recently changed hands and the new owners had been doing a great job — up until last Friday. Ordered takeout — they told me 20 – 25 minutes. I live about 5 miles away, so drove over as soon as I got off the phone with Michaels Place. I got there, paid and they told me that they would call me when my order was ready. Well, sitting on the counter was a shopping bag with an order ready to be picked up. I assumed it was not mine since they told me that they would call me when my order was ready. Well I waited there for 30 minutes and then guess what… that order that was there when I arrived was mine. I was livid… everything was ice cold. I asked them to re-make the order for which I did. They have an open kitchen and they did not keep their anger transparent from me. When I told them to not just re-heat all of the fried foods, one of the kitchen crew started yelling at me — at how they were busy and had to re-do my order. I reminded him that I am the customer and I am not paying $ 40.00 to eat cold food… especially when it was their fault no telling me that my order was ready when I arrived. To add insult to injury, this kid Zach comes over to me and offers the food for free for which I refused… I just wanted the food as my kids and wife were waiting at home for it. I asked him if he was the manager and he said«he was learning to be a manager». I told him that this does not make me feel any better knowing that the manager can’t even come over and offer his apologies… I have to get a kid whose a «manager in training». What made the most mad was the kid in the kitchen telling me off and I told that to Zach and he did not even offer telling me that he was going to talk to that person. When I got home, the Italian Cold Cut that I ordered was pretty much an onion sandwich. It had the usual cold cuts, tomatoes, pickles and about 25 lbs of onions and about a gallon of oil. The bread was so soggy… I had to just throw the whole thing away. So Zach took my name and pinned it to the wall near the register and told me the next time I call, they will either discount my next order or it will be for free. I told him that piece of paper will be very«yellowed» the next time I place an order there and that he will probably be a grandfather. So so disappointing. We were going there about 3 times a month and spending around $ 50.00 per visit. Well that is about $ 150.00 per month… times 12 months that’s almost $ 2,000 dollars a year that will be not in their sales in the coming year.

I remember going here years and years ago when I worked in the area and recently returned a bit worried since I hear they changed hands— my worries were unfounded. I still love this place even more now. I love love love the huge menu. I have used this place when having people over for a game or event because there is always something for everyone. Recently tried their pizza and it was a win win win all around both vegetarians and meatlovers were happy with the choice. This is a great go– to place — if I’m in the mood for salad– the steaktip salad is amazing– steaktips are huge and cooked perfectly. Subs are huge and tasty. Fish– fried scallop basket is a winner every time. Staff is friendly. Portions are always huge– like 2 meals! Overall good place if in the mood for pizza/subs/salads — no matter what you have you cannot go wrong!

So unimpressed and disappointed. I’m new to the area and have been looking for good places to eat with delicious food and it is definitely not here. I ordered the chicken cutlet parmesan calzone. The fried chicken taste a lot more like grilled chicken and is so dry. There is very little red sauce and the cheese is gathered in one spot on the calzone. Not to mention I asked for ranch and they did not deliver any! It is big but not tasty. I’m so disappointed. My coworker ordered a calzone from here too and we are equally unhappy with out meals. I strongly do not recommend.

Under new ownership and it shows. What an improvement. The old place served sodium soaked bland food in huge portions. My past 2 troops here I ordered the fisherman platter and now I could actually taste the fish and clams and scallops. The clams are great(whole belly thank you very much) and while the scallops aren’t they best they are still better than most places here. The haddock is great. The fries are typical. Nevertheless I’ll keep coming. The menu is huge and it will take multiple trips to see what’s best and what’s not and I look forward to it.

After almost 20 years living in Wilmington we finally found the best Cheese Steak sub in the area., And we got it 4 weeks in a row just to make sure it wasn’t a fluke, every weel great and loaded with meat. The fries need to be friend longer.,(kinda underdone) but the steak was fantastic.,

Fiancé and I stopped in for a quick dinner. Wasn’t too hungry but with the low prices of most menu items, we imagined portions weren’t so huge. Decided to go with clam strip plate myself and he got tortellini with chicken parm, and we ordered a 5pc buffalo tender to share. The portions are gigantic ! Definitely taking leftovers home. Seafood plate tastes fresh and came with fries & slaw. Chicken tenders are massive and the buffalo sauce is nice — not too spicy but not too heavy. I didn’t try his chicken parm/tortellini but he enjoyed it. Will definitely return or pick up take out on the way home — but will order less next time !! I give it 3.5 stars; not the most delicious food I’ve had, but overall yummy and flavorful comfort food.

Michaels Place is an outstanding value with great prices. The chicken, ziti and broccoli ia one of the best you’ll find and it easily feeds two good eaters. they brought back the black pastrami and it is outstanding. Get is on pumpernickle as a panini. The other great dinner is their fried haddock. it is so delicious and also huge. Michael is gone and the place went down a bit on organization… but the food is still the same and value just as good!

I gave this a 4 star review earlier in the year. But now, I’ve had to drop it to 2. We were there last night, and it was, to put it mildly, quite awful. I ordered what I have ordered many times before — a piece of fried fish with a side of coleslaw. The slaw was warm, and instead of a nice creamy mayo based dressing, it was an off-putting sweet vinegary dressing. The container of slaw was warm right through to the middle. The fish was served on a three container plate which supported it over the puddles of grease that formed in the bottom of each one. This never happened under the old owners. To say it was a disappointment, is an understatement. My wife ordered a small pizza with bacon and meatball. The bacon was chopped fine and slightly burnt, and the meatballs were tight, tough and very salty. The crust did not have its usual texture — thin with bite and a little crispness on the bottom. Last night the crust was insipid, rubbery and uninspired. It is sad to see this place go downhill after it was sold, as all too often happens. The new owners need to get on the ball and update the menu on their web page, and instead of adding roast beef and other items, train their staff well in preparing the already established menu items. And they need to train their staff in courtesy. My wife asked for a cup with ice for her soda, and the staff member said no at first instead of just giving it to her. Not a good way to develop a loyal clientele.

Their food is good but the service has been terrible since Michael sold. It’s the same employees but they have screwed up 4 out of 5 of our last orders. We will be taking a break from eating here,

What happened new owners, I was happy to see you finally take plastic, but who loads food in takeout containers on their side??? My wife didn’t notice till she got home and the bottom of the bag fell through.

Just moved to the area, tried Michaels for the first time. Staff is incredibly rude and the place is dirty. My steak and cheese was fatty. I recommend you keep driving and find another option.

New owners but they kept it the same. Everything is good and great portions. We go there just about every other week with our Corvette group. I personally Like the baked fish. Plan on taking home leftovers 5 stars!

My husband and his boss ate here on 6⁄15. My husband had clams and his boss had fried chicken. My husband threw away the clams after he ate about half because his stomach didn’t feel right. He got sick soon after. His boss felt fine until a few hours later then he was also very sick. They had to shut their company down yesterday because neither one of them could work. After seeing the reviews about the dirtiness of this place, I think we will be making a call to the BOH.

Stopped in last night on a whim. The woman at the counter was super friendly, blonde lady, I’m not a regular so we talked about what was good and I ended up with the fish and chips. The fish was really good, I usually drive to Gloucester for my seafood but such a trip isn’t always feasible on a week night. The fries — horrible — grease laden. Fries should be crispy. But the fish — very good, fresh, a pleasant surprise. I will be back and hopefully if I speak up they will make my fries better :) Fish and chips were $ 11.95 which is a great price for the portion and quality of the seafood, but like I said the fries were horrible.

Been here twice in the last month. Pizza was ok except for the ½ cup of grease on top. Both visits I noticed how dirty the dining and meal pick up areas were. Both visits came to 9.20, and I let the girl keep the change from a 10. NO thank you EITHER time. This confirms all of the other complaints about rude workers. I just heard Michael sold this place, but retained the help… BADMOVE

Been going to Michael’s Place for many years and the food is always good and portions are better than most, but can we finally get rid of your 10% add on, come out with a new menu already I’m sure your food cost have settled down and add 2 and 3 topping pizza options as another reviewer stated $ 20.00+ for a 3 topping pizza is nuts when you can get the same a for 6 bucks less at Rocco’s

One thing I miss about living near Wilmington is Michael’s Place… Now we travel the 45 mins to go here if we have the craving for a good pizza place… If you are complaining about this place you have NOIDEA how good you have it here… The pizza places near me are far inferior to this place. I’m out the stix of NH with places with crappy food and poor value… In regards to pizza and other menu items. I’ve been coming to Michael’s for over 20 years! Portions are Huge! But also the food is really good. The seafood is really good especially the fired shrimp and Haddock. The chicken tenders here are not tender sized… they seem like fried chicken breasts they are so big… I think they are pterodactyl tenders! They are always cooked to perfection and juicy. This place is awesome… don’t change a thing.(except allow cc and debit cards!) (UPDATE3÷12÷15) Was here last weekend… I heard they will accepting credit cards soon and offer catering!

I have been going to Michael’s for few years. It was always a great place to get some nice food fast. Lately, starting this spring/summer, they raised prices. That is totally fine, understandable. But, quality of service and food went down the toilet. First off, their staff is rude. Plain and simple rude. You can not tell them anything — if you are asking for something extra like few napkins or to toast a bun, they give you A LOOK. God forbid you ask for a little faster service. You will hear it all. And the sad part is — Michael, the owner does not really care. Last two times I was there. Fist time about a month ago. Ordered a veal Parmesan sub. I tell you, veal felt like it was purposely dried for days. I could hardly bite into it. There was barely any sauce on the sub. Horrible. I did not even finish it, had throw away half of it. Second time I went today. I ordered a simple item — tuna sub. I specifically asked to toast the sub BEFORE they put tuna and all other stuff on. Then I asked for some lettuce, tomatoes, some mayo. Simple right? Hard to screw up a tuna sub… WRONG! To begin with, a girl who took the order, when I asked to toast the sub before, looked at me and asked — you want what? I explained. Then, right before giving me change, she sneezes like 3 – 4 times in a row into her hand and then grabs change with same hand and hands it to me. NICE! But I said nothing. Young girl, does not feel good etc. Then next thing I notice, older woman makes my sub, without toasting, puts everything on, and throws it into the oven. I called her and told her that it is not what I wanted — I wanted sub toasted before they put everything on it. She gives me a look and asks — well, what is the difference? I told her that this is how I like my tuna sub. Simple as that. Then Michael, the owner comes in. Tells her to redo it and starts doing it himself. No apologies, nothing like that. The look on his face was like he was doing me a favor. PLEASE!!! It gets better. I thought they would use new ingredients. HAHAA! RIGHT!!! He scrapes the whole thing off of the old sub, slaps it on a new one and then that woman THROWS it at me. Not kidding, she threw it on the counter and if I Was not there, it would hit the floor. I had not time, was late for the meeting. So, I left. When I got to the office and opened the sub, I found out that indeed bun was toasted. But there was just tuna, no lettuce, no tomatoes, no mayo. How nice. So, I guess it is their way of saving some ingredients huh? I will never go there again. Horrible service, staff is rude. They raised prices but, at the same time they lowered quality of food and customer service. Or may be they were always rude… I do not care anymore. $ 11 for a drink and a sub… I can get all that for same money plus better service.
