Authentic it is… atmosphere sucks but the food is fantastic… I’ve been eating this stuff all my life and they do a good job with it… I was very uncomfortable sitting there. I don’t like bright sun shiny places when I’m eating… i will never go back but it was good.

Ate here twice before I saw the cook or whatever he is smoking a cigarette and picking his nose outside the front door. The cigarette I could’ve ignored. the knuckle deep nose diving wasn’t pretty and he gave not two shits that I said«Ew!» about four feet from him.

Just ate at this place earlier, and am having a terrible late afternoon because of it. I love Vietnamese food and Phở in particular, having had some at a couple of very good places in Philly’s China Town, but the Phở I had at this place made me feel very sick within 10 minutes of leaving, as my husband and I were heading to the theatre to see a movie. So, now I have to take a raincheck on a movie I’ve been pretty psyched about seeing(Captain America: Civil War) because my stomach cramps won’t let up, and I have to sit at home recovering from my meal. Hoping some activated charcoal will ease the pain and discomfort. The service was super nice and friendly, and I truly wish I could rate this place higher, but unfortunately I can’t. Sorry, Phở Cali, my husband and I will not be coming back.

Consistently good Vietnamese food. I go with my boyfriend whenever we’re craving Viet food. Of all the things we’ve gotten(phở, chicken noodle phở, egg rolls, summer rolls, vermicelli bowls, etc.), everything’s always been good. Never had a bad experience/nothing to complain about to date. Just wish they had bang cuon

The place is not clean. The food is below average. Very Americanized version with many big broccoli pieces on the phở and the broth was not good.(Think the owner himself is serving — a very nice guy, I feel sorry to write this review) — but the broken ceiling at few spots looks like leaking and rundown. There is a dirty white bath towel spread out at the entrance on the floor(used sort of like floor mat), it was drizzling outside. Newark doesn’t have a good Vietnamese place. Period. Sorry, unfortunately can’t write anything better. Maybe I’ll give another shot if they renovate or make it more authentic!

Phở Cali doesn’t disappoint, and I’ll return for the same piping hot bowl of goodness.

My wife was out of town for a weekend, leaving me free to eat someplace other than Panera Bread. I decided to try out Phở Cali, if only to discover for myself whether the prices were a) ridiculously high or b) extremely reasonable, and whether the service was a) terrible or b) wonderful, as the Unilocal!hive-mind has vacillatingly claimed. I ordered the basic beef phở bowl, as the very solicitous proprieter /server /host informed me that it is the most popular dish. It was served hot and served quickly — and it was very tasty. The beef broth and noodles, which in and of themselves might be rather droll, were livened up with fresh basil, green onions, and a wedge of lime they provided. It was way too much food, but it was delicious — and I would say that the price was about right for the amount of food you’re served. Definitely going to have to bring my wife here, if I am somehow able to drown out the siren song of Panera with the tasty temptation of Phở Cali.

I agree with the previous viewer. The Phở is good, but the place is not clean. I have had better, but this gets 4 stars and frankly, I was overjoyed to find a Phở place right in my backyard. Good has always been good. If only the owner could spend some energy in keeping the place sanitary and clean. I am not picky and eat at grungy, homely and hole in the wall places all the time, but the don’t feel dirty. This one feels like you are eating in a McDonald’s bathroom

First off, I love phở so it’s hard for me to give a bad review. However, there are some improvements that could be made here to deserve 5 stars. One, the dining area is dirty as well the bathrooms. If you can’t keep those clean, I’m sure the kitchen isn’t any cleaner. Two, the service is typical of any Vietnamese restaurant, which is lackluster at best. But at least they bring the food out quickly and correctly. Three, the phở itself is just slightly off but still very good. If you want the best taste, try phở nhu vu or head to a bigger city. The meat isn’t the best cut either. I suggest making an ‘americanized’ menu with tastes that fit the type of people who would come from nearby communities. With some small tweaks this place could be a real winner. That being said, I will still come here for the phở regardless :)

I ordered #1 special beef noodle soup and the sharing summer roll. Our order came really quick, within 5 mins of ordering. The shrimp summer roll came in 4 pieces. Very good size for an appetizer. And the noodle soup was huge — lots of broth, meat and noodle. I couldn’t finish the whole bowl myself. The place is clean and not noisy. They have Vietnamese hot pot when we were there. I would love to order that. But we opted out knowing hot pot usually come in pretty big portion. I enjoyed my lunch and the overall experience.

The food is fresh, hot, and delicious with generous sized plates. Authentic Vietnamese food at very reasonable prices. Set in a strip mall, they seem to have a branding issue as the signs alternately describe it as «Vietnamese Cuisine» or as «Phở Cali.» The décor is a bit formica-ish with de rigeur waving plastic kitty on the counter. The service is efficient and fast, if not terribly friendly. A great place for a quick lunch or take-out: It’s by far the best Vietnamese food I’ve found in Newark, DE.

Delicious Phở! Order the rare beef noodle soup and add all the spices at the table for an amazing creation. The broth is full of flavor! The downside is the cleanliness, the place is filthy in my opinion especially the bathrooms which tells you the kitchen could be much worse Service is ok. One time thou I got the coup and the meat tasted strange almost bad like the beef was old I dunno

An average option for phở while in Delaware. I’ve certainly had better elsewhere, but for what it is, I’d still recommend it if you’re in the area. I came for lunch with coworkers and found it was inexpensive and very filling — for $ 8.50 plus tip, I got plenty of noodles served quickly by friendly people. The menu is quite extensive, numbering somewhere close to 80 choices, with options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. The facility is somewhat drab and could probably use a facelift… but it gets the job done. My vegetable/tofu dish was pretty average overall, but perhaps other choices are more flavorful. I’d like to try more of the menu. I’ll be back if I’m at work and need a phở fix in the future.

Phở was very tasty today. Good amount of broth and brisket in our orders. Summer rolls are good but keep in mind 1 order has 4 rolls(we almost ordered 2 orders). Shrimp summer rolls did have pork but was still good(would prefer not to mix meats). Prices are reasonable and service was quick and correct. Overall a better experience then other phở restaurants I have been to. Will definitely coming back when in the area.

In my unofficial quest to have Phở in all 50US states, my travels steamrolled here through Wilmington, Delaware on a brisk Tuesday for a late lunch. On my way to sightseeing in Gettysburg, PA, I needed lunch and desperately wanted Phở, so I checked Unilocal as always and found this hidden gem. While the reviews were mixed, I have found Phở Cali pretty good and decent for the money. Like many Vietnamese restaurants and cafés I have encountered, the restaurant set up is the same and the menu always the same. When Phở is your specialty, then you know you have to make it the best. Located off the I-95 in suburban Wilmington, DE, Phở Cali is located in a shopping strip mall anchored by Kohl’s and a supermarket on Kirkland Highway. It was a nice lunch and worked well with my schedule. Like most Vietnamese restaurants, You would get very basic service and minimal interaction with the staff from entering and ordering to paying the bill and leaving. It’s like that and I’m used to it. They would escort you to your table and ask abruptly what you want and leave without saying anything, taking the menu off the table almost immediately after. As far as the food goes, I normally get the combination Phở or #1, per the menu. Phở Bac Diet, as it’s referred to in Vietnamese. And the summer rolls. After ordering, I read more Unilocal reviews and discovered you get 4 summer rolls for $ 7. What a bargain! Normally, I would get 2 summer rolls for around $ 4-$ 5.50 at other Vietnamese restaurants, but I was blown away with this one. And another first is that they serve the peanut sauce warmish-hot! That’s never been done before in my experience. It was a good, intensive mixture to start the meal. The bowl of Phở was served in a XL bowl and it was tasty. The broth had a semi deep flavor and had a peppery taste to it. Along with bean sprouts, it was decent. Apparently, they were experiencing a basil shortage, so I was a bit bummed about not having basil. I made due and it was ok. They accept credit cards and that’s always good in my book. While the aforementioned service is a drag, they make up for it in good food, affordable prices, and generous portions. The restaurant is clean and spacious. Plenty of tables and chairs to accommodate yourself and your party. It was a quick meal, so its easy to see. The overall experience is average at best, but for the food, it was dully noted as solid. Wasn’t the best, but it was good. Recommended if you are in the mood for Vietnamese and in the area, either passing through or residing in Wilmington and need your fix. Support local! B
