Plaza used to be the best Mexican in town but over the last 6 months it has turned for the worst. Staff is so-so Waiter forgets he has your table. I drained the grease off of my taco before I could eat it. Staff doesn’t know the menu. This is the third bad experience in the past three visits. There won’t be a fourth. ELCERRO all the way!!!

Usually I can rely on Unilocal to lead me to solid dining choices in strange cities. This time it failed me. Plaza Mariachi was mediocre at best and that’s being pretty generous. I was in town for work and arrived by my lonesome, so I asked to sit at the bar. I didn’t want a whole booth to myself after all. The hostess escorted me to the bar area where I discovered I was the only patron. Yay. When in Mexico, errr a Mexican restaurant, the only appropriate thing to do it order a frozen margarita of course. The bartender scoured my driver’s license for several minutes and finally told me, «I guess that is you.» Considering I’m 33 and my driver’s license is only 6 months old I am guessing either I look way better with a tan or that lots of college kids try to come here with fake IDs. Anyhow, he made my margarita. It tasted the great but was Shamrock Shake green — very confusing. As for dinner, I ordered a #something consisting of relleno, burrito, and taco. I don’t cook ATALL and I definitely could have made this meal on my own. It was ground beef with next to no seasonings. The whole meal with nursing home food bland. I was beyond disappointed. Honestly the whole experience wasn’t truly bad, but it was definitely basic and bland. There are several other Mexican restaurants in the area and I would highly recommend trying one of them instead.

I just moved here and was looking for a mexican restaurant similar to the one I had at home, and this one hits it spot on. I also love that you can order a large queso, a lot of places don’t have that! good drink specials. only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the waiter seemed to be annoyed with my table whenever we would ask for a water refill or more chips… oh well. I still tipped good anyway. I’m there for the food!

Will not be back. Order was screwed up every step of the way. From the drink orders to the food. Ordered an appetizer, and ten the entries came out. She apologized, the guy delivering the food made excuses for while the appetizer wasn’t ready – not apologetically at that. Food was not great, but better than some of the others that my family has been too(from what they say).

Went here for lunch alone, the staff was pleasant greeted me right when i walked in the door, my server was great my drink was always full and the food taste good, meat was a little chewy for beef. the only thing i didnt like was that I was Sat right next to where they scraped the plates and it was a little warm inside the restaurant. There lunch prices are very affordable.

Deeeelicious little find in Wilmington! We were actually on our way to another restaurant when we spotted this little place tucked in a strip mall. Adorable interior and sparkling clean we were promptly seated in a booth. My boyfriend and I started off with the Ceviche that was served on a flat hard tortilla. We quickly demolished the seafood done to perfection in juice chock full of cilantro before splitting the fajitas for two. HUGE portion of skirt steak, peppers, and onions served with sides of beans and all the fixins’. Points for havin’ Cholula on the table. Don’t think I didn’t notice that. Add 2 drinks and a soda, and a taco and our bill still was only $ 45. PM is not only satisfying for the tummy but the wallet as well. We definitely will be back repeatedly. Sidetip: If you really like spicy, ask for their homemade hot sauce made from Chipotle. It’s ridic tasty and way up on the scoville charts.

A very solid four star restaurant. Food is good, staff is attentive and quick and the price is right. Best thing in the menu is the chicken soup – the best in town for the price! Great spot for good, cheap and fast Mexican food.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Wilmington! Service is wonderful and waiters and waitresses are very nice and pleasant. Queso dip is good and pollo chorizo is my favorite. Very laid back atmosphere

This more Americanized than authentic, but nevertheless the food is fantastic! We are always greeted with a smile and salsa coming to the table before you can take your jacket off. The price is great, food is terrific, service is great and all the servers help the other servers… so, if you need something all you have to do is get one person’s attention and they will come right over and get whatever you(Tappatillo, Chalula, etc.).

Boiled meat and no cheese on our nachos. Not busy at the time of our visit and had to ask twice for water and reminder for extra salsa. Food unflavored. bland…VERY disappointed… before you spend money here recommend On The Border… we lived in other states that have good Mexican food so I am leaving this review based on years of experience tasting very good food v. poor quality. Sorry Plaza Mariachi… you could do so much better…

I wasn’t very impressed. Food is DEFINITELYNOTAUTHENTIC!!! I had tacos al carbon. The tortillas are store bought the steak was over cooked and cut way to thick it only comes with a slice of avocado!!! What happened to the AUTHENTICTACO? No onion, no cilantro, no lime… Yeah they give you some Pico de Gallo, but not the same ;0( My son did eat all his taco, but how can you go wrong with a flour tortilla and some poor seasoned ground beef for an 8 year old. My husband had the carnitas(deep fried pork). This dish only tastes best when fresh from the(caso). This tasted stale, almost no flavor and not fresh. Again w/store bought tortillas… We tried, but won’t be back… We are new to the area, so we’ll continue to look for true AUTHENTICMEXICANFOOD.

I had a friend from out of town staying with me this week. We decided to stop here for a nice dinner the other night. The wait staff was very friendly and didn’t take long to seat us. We ordered drinks. I had a Margarita and my friend had a piña colada. Both were very tasty. For dinner she had a vegetarian dish. It was nice to see a Mexican restaurant with specific vegetarian menu options. I had a chimichanga. Both were very tasty. The meal was great. The prices are low and a great value for your money. I cannot wait to go back the next time I feel like a good hearty meal of Mexican food.

Me & my husband have been coming here for two years now & have nothing to complain about. There arroz con pollo amazing as well as there pollo tapatio. Also if you like a little extra spicy salsa for your chips ask the waiter for some green salsa it’s amazing!!! Customer service is the best never again will I go to el Cerro grande as long as I have mariachi rite across the street!

The only reason for the 3rd star was the service. Our waiter was great, polite and friendly. The food was just OK, not great, but fills the spot if you’re hankerin’ for some Mexican. I enjoyed the house salsa. The margarita is perhaps the worst version of a margarita I’ve ever encountered in my life. My wife refused to drink it. First off, it was green, which made us leery in the first place and it tasted like it was made with sour mix rather than the typical ingredients of a margarita. My son had a virgin mango-rita which was fine, but if you want a standard ‘rita, look elsewhere. Their Mexican beer selection however is pretty darn good. Carta Blanca and Bohemia are always a pleasant surprise to find in a Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere was meh, a little cafeteria-ish with all the vinyl and bright overhead lighting.

What a great surprise! From the start, the waiter was so sincerely polite I wanted to hug him. He welcomed us as friends and was attentive, but not so much that he interrupted the table conversation. The food was fresh and plentiful. Typical Mexican food offerings, but the ingredients were a higher quality. We had chicken tacos, full of juicy white meat. The cheese enchiladas were not even greasy.

When anyone mentions El Cerro(after I’m done judging them) I immediately tell them to go across the street and check out Plaza. I go there so often that the staff just smiles and shake their heads when they see me. The staff is friendly and attentive. My drink is never empty. Food is quick, delicious, and reasonably priced. They generally have really great specials going on($ 4.99 lunch specials and $ 2 margaritas/$ 1.50 beer). I love this place. I have to stuff my face here at least once a week or I go through withdrawals.

Many lunch specials for $ 4.50, $ 2 draft or rita, and lunch was too big to finish… how does the Taco Bell business model even exist. Also, probably the best wait staff experience in a year. EDIT: Rumor has it that management was turned over and they are no longer taking coupons… so ask before using one.
