Somebody should change the name on Unilocal. Not sure what Russell calls his spot, but quality foods sounds more like a decrepit grocery store. I vote for«Russell’s Spot». Russell is doing God’s work with his BBQ. Everything pork is good. I hope Russell adds some indoor seating some day for times when the weather isn’t cooperating. Also I’ve literally seen a freight train stop on the nearby tracks so that the driver could pick up BBQ from Russell’s Spot. The train driver said he was on his way to FL from Canada. What a boss.

This food is amazing and the price can’t be beat! It’s basically a food truck experience. I told the owner it was my first time there and he gave me a discount! The pulled pork was so tender and juicy and the ribs — perfection. I will definitely be coming again really soon!

This place has some amazing BBQ. My girlfriend and I had pulled up to grab a bite to eat. The owner Russell, met us at our car window and told us that he had sold out for the day. We told him that, we have tried to come by before and try his food… but had always missed him or was too late. After asking, if we liked BBQ… he walked back inside and came back out with a styrofoam container full to the brim with BBQ chicken. When we offered money for this bounty of food, he denied it and asked for a simple fist bump instead. Not only do I think the food is amazing, the prices are extremely well placed, fair and cheap considering the standard of BBQ… but his generosity was through the roof. I felt compelled to write this review. I urge people who love BBQ to try out Russell’s. You will NOT be disappointed!

A perfect place for a good old barbeque. No boiled and microwaved non-sense. Friendliness is on par, good service and great for the money.

Ed was a great guy behind the counter, make sure you mention it is your first time. Excellent pulled pork(a ton) juicy with great mild smokey sauce. Had the collards and potato salad, great. Got a sample of the jerked chicken, great… next time would ask them no barbecue sauce on that, it stands on its own with good spiciness. Went there for ribs, they were out– basically, you have to plan ahead and call 302−299−3127EARLY, like noon or better. Good bargain with $ 10 combos, two sides. Had about 1⁄3 left over. Next going to try ribs, mac and cheese, and coleslaw– hope to get back to you, but it’s worth a visit. Got to meet Russell. It’s very clear how much they value their customers. I like to have it hot from the stand rather than reheated, there is one picnic table and an umbrella. A fine dining room this is not, but that must keep the overhead low.

Came for lunch today with some coworkers. We had heard that it gets really busy so we got here at exactly 12 to make sure we could get what we wanted. Unfortunately, they started out with NOT having the 2 sides I wanted to order(sweet potatoes and collard greens). I’m gonna deduct a star for that. LOL. I ended up ordering BBQ chicken, baked beans and Mac and cheese. The orders came up pretty quickly and we were able to sit down to eat, but there’s only one picnic table. So now I’m also deducting a star because the sides were not to my liking at all. The Mac and cheese was gross to be honest. It’s bright orange and not made with real cheese. The baked beans have cinnamon in them, which wasn’t gross but just something I’m not used to. Despite that, the chicken was really good and the portions are big. The platter was $ 9. So I will try Russell’s again because I’d like to give the greens and sweet potatoes a shot but now I know what not to get next time.

I have driven by Russell’s countless times and always said I need to stop and try it. I finally stopped last week after reading Unilocal reviews. Now I am left with regret for waiting so long. Read the other reviews and stop. You will not be disappointed by the food or service.

Since it’s quite a hike from both home & work, I don’t get to Russell’s often. So when a business meeting necessitated me being just down Centerville Road, I was pretty darned excited. Now everyone who knows me knows my affinity for BBQ. The real stuff — no boil in bag or microwave to reheat prepackaged crap. No liquid smoke. No gas grill. Real, cooked over wood smoke preferably on the side of the road BBQ. So after my meeting ended around 3;00, it was off to pick up dinner. The lot was empty so I pulled right up front to read the menu attached to the front of the building. When Ed, the young man working the stand saw I was getting out of my truck with my crutches… well, quick as a flash he was at my door ready to answer questions and take my order. Feeling the love… The only disappointment was that they were sold out of ribs. Ed gave me a menu and advised me to call early so they could save some for me. Fair enough. They only do brisket on Fridays so I was left with«enough pulled pork to do one sandwich», but plenty of chicken. So i ordered one each of the Yardbird Specials — a Leg Quarter with two(generous) sides for $ 9 — one BBQ and one JERK. Both chicken orders came«southern soul food» style — wet on top of two slices of white bread. I’m cool with that, or just chicken in foil — with good chicken, either works for me. And there was plenty to share with not just one but two of my kids. While both chicken orders were a little overcooked, Russell’s holds them in their juices which keeps the meat moist. Since I was eating, not grading for competition, it was all about the rich and savory flavors. The BBQ was very tasty — a sweet, tomato based sauce. My favorite kind. The Jerk was unlike any I’ve had from any Jamaican chefs — it was wetter and less spicy. While a little more heat would be expected, frankly it was so good that I didn’t really waste time worrying about it. I would drive back for either — or both of them. As for the sides, the first highlight was the sweet potato. I asked what they meant by sweet potato. Ed said«you know. We cook a fresh sweet potato.» Then he hastened to add«but we cut them up and stuff.» Well, by «and stuff», that means they mash it and smash it and sweeten it and season it. The end result could be wrapped in a flaky pastry and be better than any sweet potato pie I’ve ever tasted. Two thumbs up. I was told honestly that the potato salad isn’t homemade(that’s a pretty big mistake, Russell), but that they. «doctor it up». Ok. But not as good as homemade. Boil the potatoes while your meat is cooking. It will be well worth the effort. Use red potatoes and you wouldn’t even need to peel them. Then the greens. Honestly, I’ve never been a big fan, but I keep trying. Ed promised theirs wouldn’t be sandy and they weren’t. Nor were they tough, and not too bitter. Can I add butter to collard greens? With butter and salt I may like them more, but I may just have to get comfortable with the idea that I may never fall in love with greens. Friendly, helpful Ed gives Russell’s a bonus point. Loss of points for not cooking enough product(it was 3 pm on a warm and sunny Spring day) and the few other challenges noted above. Solid 4. 5 needs to be more perfect. Russell’s is very good, but could be great.

Great BBQ. Terrible business model. This place consistently runs out of food on a daily basis. You would think after a certain amount of time they would understand that the demand outweighs their supply so maybe they would increase their supply to meet the demand, but they never do! When you can actually get some barbecue, it’s fantastic! But they have to change their business model. How do you consistently run out of food as a place that serves food?!

This place… Seriously. I really cannot say enough. The owner is an awesome guy. Really nice. and the food is second to none. I got the pulled pork«sandwich» which essentially is a platter of pulled pork and a kaiser roll on the side. Their BBQ sauce is delicious. From the looks of it you might drive by, but DONT. TRUSTME. DONT. He advertises as selling out by 5pm so get there before then and enjoy!!!

Great place for no-frills, good old BBQ. We tried the pulled pork platters and being sweet potato fans chose a double order of the sweet potatoes for the sides. The pulled pork was moist and juicy and full of nice sized pieces of meat that were not at all fatty. The sweet potatoes were deliciously smoky and buttery. Each platter was served with a roll that sopped up the juices and the meals themselves must have weighed several pounds and made great leftovers. Granted I can eat a lot but there was no way I could finish my platter despite how great it tasted. Russell’s friendly assistant(Ed?) was really helpful. I would rate the food as four stars but the friendly service bumps it up to a five. We look forward to coming back soon! Maybe next time we won’t eat for a few days prior to our visit :)

I accidentally drove right past Russell’s coming down Centerville road, not realizing that this heavily lauded and highly praised restaurant operates out of a building the size of a shed! Located in the corner of a parking lot, Russell’s consists of the one-room stand from which Russell takes orders and makes food. Outside the stand is a large grill and oven in which he cooks certain of the delicious items one can order. On my visit, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. I grew up in New Mexico, and we get a decent amount of barbeque from the prevailing Texas headwinds, and I’m a fan of pulled pork. For six dollars, I was not disappointed. The styrofoam to-go container that Russell handed me contained a fresh bread roll and a heaping serving of pork, drizzled with barbeque sauce. There was so much meat I could only fit half of it in the roll and had to ask Russell for a second one to finish it. The meat was delicious, smoky and just chewy enough. It fell apart gently with a little prodding but still had the perfect consistency in the mouth. I washed it down with a can of soda, which Russell offers for only fifty cents, a bargain in this day and age. My friend and I ate our meals sitting at the picnic table outside the establishment, and he was similarly pleased with his hamburger and french fries. I plan to return to Russell’s to try the rest of his menu, such as the hot dogs and fish sandwich, which I’m sure he does well. For my first visit to this establishment, I had a great time and would recommend it to fans of pulled pork and cheap, quality food in general.

I actually used to work right down the street from Russells. The pulled pork plattet is to die for!!! Huge servings and the greens and sweet potatoes are also really good. The ribs were soso, but the pulled pork was delightful!!!

This year, I convinced my dad that we should have real BBQ for our Fourth of July dinner instead of the usual dry, flavorless grilled hamburgers and chicken.(Don’t tell him I said that!) Having done my research on Unilocal,I suggested Russell’s, since everyone seemed to rave about it. Afraid that it might either not be open on the 4th or might sell out, my dad and I headed over yesterday morning(July 3) to check it out. Expecting that he sells his meat by weight, my dad asked Russell how much he charges per pound. After greeting us warmly, Russell smiled and said, «I don’t sell by the pound – I’m lazy. How many people do you want to feed?» My dad told him four, and Russell said he’d hook us up. He asked us what we wanted, and we decided on the pulled pork(a must at any BBQ place!),(pork) ribs, and BBQ chicken. We also got some mac and cheese and sweet potatoes to go with it. Russell gave us enough food for two meals(see photos), packaged it all up, and explained to us how to reheat it(set in pan of water in oven at 275 for 30 – 40 min.) I mentioned that it was our first time, and he cut us a deal for $ 50, which was about $ 10 less than my dad was expecting to pay. Other reviews aside, I knew just from smelling the food on the way home that it was going to be amazing – it took a lot of willpower not to sample it, but I was able to resist temptation. When it came out of the oven tonight, I took some of everything. Man, oh, man, talk about smoked goodness! It was the best BBQ I’ve ever had, beating the pants off of my favorite BBQ establishments in PGH and even Daddy D’z in Atlanta. The pork was so tender, moist, and flavorful, I devoured it on a sandwich bun in about two minutes flat. If the ribs had had bones, the meat would have fallen off of them – as it were, it fell apart as I ate it. The chicken was also excellent – very tender, savory, and smoky(be sure to eat the skin – it’s the best part!) Honestly, it’s extremely hard to choose between them, but if someone put a gun to my head and ordered me to pick one, I suppose I’d choose the pulled pork – it was heaven on a bun! The sides were just as awesome as the meat. The macaroni was very unique in that it had a smoky flavor, and though it had dried out a bit, there were still plenty of places where it was moist and creamy. The sweet potatoes were delectable, and were very sweet with hints of savoriness from butter and smoke. If I had to do this order again, about the only thing I’d change is that I’d get half portions of each side so that I could get more of them, since I’d love to try the collard greens and potato salad. About the only thing that was conspicuously missing was cornbread, which is a BBQ staple, and has been present at every other rib joint I’ve been to. Russell, if you’re reading this, make some cornbread and start selling it, and I’ll be back in a jiffy(get it? haha! :-)). Even after washing my hands, my fingers still smell of smokiness and sauce, which is making me hungry again, despite having gorged myself half an hour ago. Never fear, however – we’ll finish off the rest of the food tomorrow night for dinner, so I only have to wait 24 hours to indulge anew! The rest of the family loved it, as well, and I’m sure my dad will be back soon, despite saying he’s glad it’s not closer or else he’d gain some serious weight! If you’re in DE and are craving BBQ, there’s no better place to satiate your craving than Russell’s, so head on over – just be sure to get there early or call ahead to ensure he hasn’t run out of your favorite BBQ meat and sides!

The best BBQ in the area. Not only the food is fresh and absolutely delicious but the service is outstanding. The BBQ sauce is to for for. Ribs and pulled pork melt in your mouth. The sides are great, especially the potato salad and sweet potato mash. To top it off, you get a lot of food for $ 10! I rarely bring home leftovers but I’m looking forward to my BBQ dinner tonight. Please please do yourself a favor and check out Russell’s BBQ. Tip 1: our Gps took us to the Walmart parking lot. Don’t go into the parking lot, Russell’s is on the opposite side, right oft the road. You can see it on the left as you leave the Walmart parking lot. Tip 2: You can purchase a huge bottle of the BBQ sauce for $ 5 or even a bigger bottle for $ 10 :)

I’ve driven by Russell’s for years and never knew exactly what it was, but could see the lines. fast forward to today, craving BBQ and Unilocaled Famous Dave’s which I didn’t like the first time that I was there a few years back, but saw all these 5 star reviews for Russell’s and we decided to hop on over and check it out. Nicest guy there, Ed, no line, and a growling stomach. We literally got one of everything and I meant to take a picture, but we tore through the platters at home. Got ribs, pulled pork and hot dogs and sandwiches with awesome sides! I asked about Mac n’cheese and Ed said Thursday and Friday for that. Food was hot, smokey, tender and generous portions and delicious sauces. Loved the collard greens, sweet potatoes and potato salad. we have enough for another meal and will be back this Thursday for Mac n cheese sides! This place is beyond AWESOME. Go there, order everything and be happy! This place reminds me of the yummy plate lunches in Honolulu with the two sides and the generous and tasty mains. We even ate the bread that is at the bottom of the dish that soaks up the juices and sauces. Deserves five stars!!!
