Not handicapped accessible. Wheelchair can’t fit inside with ridiculous red carpet Oscars rope. Dirty inside. Food is always old & stale. Unfriendly staff, unless you’re a good looking guy or a big spender. Always burnt smell wafting from there pollutes air from WaWa to Wendy’s. Next to a dirty creek. Failed inspection. Interesting online reading, «cobwebs above machines», «open sacks of flour sitting in puddles of dirty water on the floor»

I try to like Serpes I really do… but the last few times I’ve went there it’s been an epic fail. Let’s start with the fact that the last two times I’ve went it I almost felt like I was being harassed by the young girl who works the register. Greeting a customer when they walk in is proper, and asking if they need any assistance is great too, but this is a bakery! If you ask me what I’m looking for and I say nothing in particular please don’t follow me case to case and stare at me while I’m trying to decide on which pastry I’d like to try. Not only does it make for an awkward experience but I ended up getting way less than I planned to each time just to hurry up and get away. Secondly, I’m a cupcake person, the last three times I’ve tried Serpes cupcakes I’ve had to throw them out Bc they were inedible. Today I tried a sugar cookie, it tasted like a hard bis quick biscuit with sugar sprinkled on top. Needless to say I ended up throwing that out as well. The only thing I would recommend are the cake slices which are always moist and delicious and the tomato pie.

Dissapointed. First off I read all the reviews, I’m from Northern va, and came here bought a 30 dollar rum cake for my mom’s bday and it was favor less and plain, I was embarrassed hyping up the cake then seeing such a weak flavor I couldn’t believe it, it tasted like weaker than pathmark bakery Second I love The Great Harvest bread company but they are too far from me, wilmington, so when I read reviews saying best Italian bread etc I thought I’d buy a loaf. FAIL. the bread was so unfresh you could tell the flour was not homeade it was weak store bought and the bread had no flavor it was dry bleh. Overall I don’t know how they got awards maybe things were different 7 years ago but not impressed won’t be returning.

Love Serpe’s! Tomato Pie is fabulous and so is their pepperoni roll. Also a great place for cakes and breakfast pastries. My sister thinks the Tomato Pie should be shipped, she lives in Charlotte and can not get anything like that there. Also — cannoli are amaaaaaaazing.

I still like the tomato pie, but after reading the news article and comments from employees I don’t go here quite as much as i used to. Probably every restaurant I go to has had food inspection issues, but what they were saying was going on here was not nice to hear. I believe some of it and just hope they are serious that they have fixed the issues.

Serpe’s bakery has a great atmosphere. I have been in the area for a littke under a year and Have enjoyed the tasty treats there, but the other day I over heard who I presume to be the boss yelling at one of his high school workers. Very unprofessional for representing a small family owned business. Definitely will take a break on it until I hear about managerial changes.

Based on previous reviews and Readers Choice awards, Serpe’s used to be a good bakery. It is no longer. I purchased a collection of butter cookies and 4 pastries yesterday. Everything tasted old, dry and they seemed to use inferior ingredients. The Acme bakery offers better products — and at a lot less money.

Stopped by the bakery today for Christmas cookies for upcoming holiday party. I went on my lunch break and it was not very crowded(which I was happy about). They are very organized and funnel the patrons through an ordering process. There is a large variety of options and I chose a pre arranged large cookie tray($ 66.00 a little pricey). I hope they are worth it. One complaint I have is that once the store clerk leaves to help next patron and you are sent to the register don’t think about adding anything additional. I wanted to add several of the larger cookies and a few half moon(black and whites) that I didn’t see initially and was told I would have to wait in line again. Not sure why someone couldn’t help by boxing up a few more cookies. Very disappointed by the lack of customer service.

I’m 24 years old and I’ve gotten every birthday cake from here. The cakes aren’t fancy, but they are literally the best cakes I’ve had in my entire life. Dream worthy. I’ve had other things from here too, all great. But the cake… DANG!

If your sweet tooth is craving an Italian pastry, and you are in Wilmington, Serpe’s is the place to go. They have good cannoli and should I dare say they are just as good as that well-known Italian bakery in South Philly. Their cakes and tomato pie are excellent. The dough on the pie has a nice chew. The tomato sauce is not too tangy or too sweet and it is loaded with garlic. The cakes are moist and you can taste the butter in the vanilla flavored cakes. I usually get the butter cream icing. I also like to get the sfogliatella and sticky buns from time-to-time. This is the only place I had sfogliatella so I can’t honestly critic them. The sticky buns are okay. During Christmas, they carry panettone. As I said before, Serpe’s is the place to go in Wilmington for Italian pastries and cakes.

Cakes, tomato pie, pepperoni bread, sticky buns, bread sliced to order, Italian cookies by the pound, everything is fresh and delicious.

I have never has anything bad from Serpe’s. The tomato pie has been a family party staple for decades and the cake frosting is perfection.

Serpes has wonderful cakes with yummy buttercream icing. They also have fabulous petit fours, babka bread at Christmas and Easter, and king cakes during Mardi Gras. Be forewarned… Just don’t choke on the baby baked inside the king cake. I can’t be held responsible for my recommendations.

I remember a co-worker coming in the office with a box full of cupcakes. I was so happy to know there are a cupcake place in the area. We, not so close to the area since we were in the Riverfront. I recently moved into Delaware and was on a cupcake binge. I had to know where she go those lovely cupcakes. I know been in Delaware for a year before I decided to check this place out. Interesting, this place looks like an old Greek bakery. I don’t think the people working their are Greek but I checked the place out anyway. The cakes were displayed very nicely and they were almost out of cupcake. Believe it or not, I did not get a cupcake, I got a slice of cake. One issue I have, they must cut back on the frosting. I think too much frosting takes away from the nice moist cake. That’s all

In the 70s and 80s, my father and I used to deliver vegetables from our farm in Carney’s Point, NJ to Angelo Riccio’s Store on 6th& Lincoln in Wilmington. I remember he used to have tomato pie that he sold there that was out of this world. For years, I have tried to find tomato pie with that same awesome taste. I live near Philly, so I’ve tried everywhere– Sarcone’s, etc. I’ve never found a place that can replicate that awesome taste. I believe it’s all in the sauce, and nobody, it seemed, had the sauce down. Last Friday, I had to take my mother to Wilmington for a colonoscopy, and had a few hours to kill, so I researched tomato pie in the Wilmington area. I came up with two names– Serpe’s and Black Lab Bakery. I read reviews on this and other sites. My first stop was Serpe’s in Elsmere. I tried one slice to see if it was what I wanted, walked outside and ate the slice. I turned around and went back and bought a whole pie(tomato pie freezes well). That was it! That was the taste. Whether or not that’s where Riccio bought his pies from I don’t know, but that was the taste I remember– garlicky, not acidic, mildly sweet. MMMMMMMMMM! Serpe’s Tomato Pie is what a tomato pie should be. I did try a slice at Black Lab later(I had a lot of time to kill). It wasn’t the Tomato Pie I remember. Nothing against Black Lab, it seems like a nice place with friendly people there. Their stuff looks great. I was just looking for that Déjà vu taste and I found it at Serpe’s. If there’s a place in Philly that makes Tomato Pie that good, I haven’t found it yet.

Holy Moly… I was at a Graduation party today, and mosey’d over to a big tray of tomato pie. I took a bite, and another, then another… and immediately went over to the Hostess to ask where it was from. I’ve had many, many slices of tomato pie, including some of the best in Philadelphia, and the tomato pie from Serpe is right there. Turns out the cake at this event was from there too. It was just perfect. Deliciously moist with a fluffy, not to sweet icing. I am really looking forward to actually making inside the store next… but a 5 star review out of the gate.

Love this Italian bakery for its huge amazing pecan/raisin rolls(also available in loaf form) and savory spinach or tomato-mozz loaves. Good cookies too– your standard bakery stuff, and with small-town prices. I am not a regular, nor do I buy a huge amount being a solo flyer, so I don’t get the«hey joe» kind of conversation a lot of the other customers have. I like listening, though. this is the kind of place where you overhear moms with little kids running into their high school boyfriend’s dad, and that kind of thing. Conveniently located on Kirkwood Hwy in Elsmere.
