Five star British theme pub. The food was great and simple. We had the sampler, vegetable bowl, and a ham and onion pie with 2 cups of soup potato leak and spicy beef. With a Scottish beer it cost around 50 bucks. The atmosphere was great though we went on a Thursday night so take that for what it is. But as far as a British pub in DE it was great!

We are British, and this is not true British food. Terrible fish and chips. Overpriced. The place smells like horse apples… If you want the real deal fish and chips, Iron Hill Brewery’s is best! To add to our negative experience, there was a family who could not control their kids. They were running around and bumping into our chairs and the parents had no care in the world.

Have spent some time in the U.K., so I like to think I know real British pubs… and this ranks very close to the real thing. First of all the owner is out and about serving and speaking with the patrons… very English. The roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was solid as were the peas. Excellent beer choices. Nice atmosphere as an Englishman sat down next to me at the bar and struck up a conversation, also very English. Well worth a visit…

I’m only giving this establishment 1 star because I have to. I cannot leave a review without a star rating. What’s «British» about this bar? Other than there being a few flags draped around and some«British» fare on the menu(fried mars bar; really. Ever had one in Britain?) Its just like any other down market bar. I was there last night. I had the steak and kidney pie. It sorely lacked gravy. The peas were clearly from a can and the gravy poured over the mash potatoes was like dish water. There are 3 big screen TV’s in the place. They were all showing American Football. When I asked to watch the cricket the American waitress said«what’s that?». As for the selection of beers, don’t hold your breath. None of the beers advertised on Stoney’s website were available. The only beers on tap were available at just about any other bar. And what self respecting British pub doesn’t serve cider? This bar appears to be a pension fund for its owner whom was once«something in the music industry» and has now moved on to other things. I’ll grant you that it was a Monday night but the place was empty. I was the last customer there at 9PM. Perhaps I should have taken the empty car park as a sign? Don’t bother with this place. It might fool very unsophisticated Americans but it wont do so for long. Cricket? What’s that? Really?

First off, they have Bodingtons! Yay, happy dance. I had the fish chowder, and the Bridie… It was just amazing! Warm friendly pub, not rushed, I really relaxed. Made me feel comfortable. Wish I could find a place like this back in CA. It wasn’t cheap, but that fluffy puff pastry of beef and gravy was soooo worth it… And did I mention they had Bodingtons?

Awesome place with a really cool British pub vibe. I had the King George Yorkshire sandwich topped with Stilton cheese. It was excellent, perfect bar food. The chips were hand cut and went really well with the pudding. The bartender knew her stuff and was very friendly. I would’ve given 5 stars if the beer prices were more reasonable. I was wondering why I was the only customer in there, until I saw my check. $$$

Atomosphere is cool — would love to come over and have a few pints. We brought our two young kids for lunch one Saturday in December. We had the curry pie and and a sausage roll — neither were terrible but I can’t remember them being amazingly delicious.

First time eating at an english pub and the fish and chips were amazing! Very fresh and light! My friend brought me here because she is British and was excited to try it. The only reason its not given 5 stars is they were out of the beer we wanted listed on the menu(I can’t remember the name of the beer my friend recommended). We finished the meal with the bread pudding which was to die for. It makes you realize american bread pudding is not the same

Popped in for a beer on the way out of the nearby(dry) burger joint and was pleased to find what seems to be quite the inspired British pub. Whether it’s tellies tuned to the football channels(that’s not *American* football) or a sign in the lobby proclaiming their pride at serving«Imperial pints» and the St. George’s Cross flags throughout, it shouts«UK!». On tap, a selection of «proper» English beers including Old Speckled Hen, Magner’s Cider, Boddington Cream Ale, London Pride and of course, Guinness(which is technically Irish, but what’s a hundred miles or so). Mike poured me a perfect Guinness pint, right down to me having to wait five minutes for it to «settle» and turn completely black before drinking. Impressive. While waiting, I got to enjoy a very odd smell wafting in from the kitchen area. The fish & chips looked really excellent. Nice thick piece of fish and fries that look hand cut rather than poured out of a bag.

If you like British, I mean, truly British foods, this is it. Steak and Kidney pie they way it should be, fish and chips not drowning in Tartar sauce and properly poured Guinness. Will be headed back for the Bridie and Yorkshire Pudding. Easily worth the trip.

This place is easy to not notice when driving by. I only stopped here because of Unilocal. While plain outside, its got a great English pub feeling to it inside. The service was friendly and very quick. The fish and chips were a bit of a disappointment though, so they lost a star for this British pub staple. The white fish was not as thick and flavorful as the Cod my favorite British pubs use. The chips were very good and the English beer selection was excellent. I would definitely return to try some other menu selections.

Stoney’s is a cool little authentic British pub in Wilmy. I came and met up with some friends to watch the Eagles game, but was surprised to see that other customers were there to watch the Philly Union game! Which was pretty cool — I get down with the Union for sure, but Sunday’s are for Merican’ football, come on meow! Regardless, love the passion. I also tried some of the food — my buddy got the fish and chips, very tasty! I tried the cheese sampler plate which came with awesome wheat bread, spicy mustard and a really unique pickle-based type of spread; must be an authentic British thing, but it was damn good. I really wanted to try the Shepherd’s Pie too but decided to fill my stomach with beer instead :) I’ll be back to try it though!

OK. I am from the UK and therefore dined routinely at a wide variety of pubs /chippies(fish & chip shops) /greasy spoons(sort of a fried food/diner equivalent) and restaurants for well over four decades before heading state-side. I have also visited Stoneys many times over the last decade! Don’t get me wrong, Stoneys is OK, I will pop-in again on occasions. But authentic it is NOT. I would accept that it’s British inspired and it does have a reasonable selection of beers(to be considered extensive in the UK it would need to offer around 15 – 20 or so real ales on tap… ideally hand pulled not gas pumped and at cellar temperature not chilled… Stoneys is not that but it is good for the US). Food-wise however it is less«authentic» and more«inspired by»! Fish & chips should offer the full half fillet NOT the«goujons» served here(and pretty much everywhere in the US). The chips should be MUCH closer to steak fries… these are French fries, period. Also traditional accompaniments like mushy peas and curry sauce are not available. The batter is fine although you get a higher batter to fish ratio than the UK because the pieces of fish are so small. Next Shepherds Pie should use lamb(actually twice cooked mutton for true authenticity but that would be very picky), how many shepherds do you know of that look after cows? A beef pie of this type is properly called Cottage Pie… now that is perfectly valid and in fact pre-dates Shepherds Pie by about 100 years. Toad-in-the-hole has sausage links cooked INSIDE a sheet of batter. It is NOT even CLOSE to bangers and mash with a side of Yorkshire pudding! Yorkshire pudding, according to my mum’s family who are still from Yorkshire, is less«eggy» than the US version. Being tailored to the local palette is fine… but don’t call it authentic. Traditionally Yorkshire pudding with gravy is actually an appetizer designed to fill you up so you eat less of the expensive meat… but that is a dying tradition in the UK too now so I won’t criticize that too much. In short I quite like Stoneys and I will keep going. But please ditch the idea that it is authentic… it isn’t…it is a reasonable British inspired pub with a decent beer selection and OK food when the chef is on form.

Stopped in on a Friday night, and we were told by the waitress who was just folding napkins, to sit anywhere. Okay, a bit odd, but we found a nice booth near the kitchen and sat down, eager to give this place a shot and enjoy some English pub food. Didn’t wait long for her to come by to take our orders, which was a plus for her, but from there it wasn’t so good. She had a habit attending us in a rush, and then turning around and taking off in a hurry as the last word left our mouths. I tried to pass it off as her just being über busy or something, but at some point in our meal, hubs looks over my shoulder and tells me she’s casually talking to a group of customers(probably regulars?) and taking her slow sweet time, while he was waiting for a drink refill. After a little while, another woman finally brings him his drink, since our waitress couldn’t be bothered since she was having fun socializing during her shift. We felt that we were not much of a concern or priority for her at all. Also, as we both compared notes about the service in the car afterward on our way to a movie, we both realized she only looked at and talked to my husband exclusively, and completely never looked at nor addressed me during the entire service. We had a great experience at another local restaurant recently(a chain one at that), where the waiter, though busy, took the time to be friendly, engaging, and thoroughly attentive to both of us during our meal there. Needless to say, he got a 20%+ tip for awesome service and making us feel welcome, where this waitress got less than 10% from hubs, and even then later we felt it was three dollars too much… as in it should’ve been nothing at all. After we paid, my husband forgot to ask for a take out box, but didn’t want to flag our waitress down, so he stopped a server on her way back to the kitchen. Though she initially gave us a funny look, she did bring us a box, and when I thanked her, she smiled at me and said I was welcome. I got a look and a smile, and was acknowledged by the server, but not at all by our waitress. The server should’ve gotten the tip instead in our opinion. The food was decent, the dessert was super good, and I would’ve gone back for that alone, but sadly we were both very underwhelmed by the service from our waitress, and probably won’t be back.

I’m pretty picky when it come to restaurants and this place I liked right off the bat. Don’t judge a book by it cover because from the outside it blends into the landscape. The atmosphere was traditional British pub. Friendly and knowledgeable service. I had the roast beef sandwich and it was awesome. Quality meat with great hand cut pub fries. I would recommend to anyone.

Perfectly decent little place. There’s not much parking, so if you’ve got a large party, see if you can carpool. I’ve been to the UK, spent a lot of time there, actually, so my standards for pub grub are probably a bit higher than most area residents. The atmosphere is about as good for a pub as a building not built 300 years ago can be. As the other Unilocalers have mentioned, Stoney’s has a great selection of UK beer, including lots that I haven’t been able to find in the US. The little box on the menu that holds the fish and chips offerings says that the breading is authentic chip shop breading and that the fish is fresh caught, flown in nightly. I think that’s a little funny, considering that A) we’re talking about fried fish here, guys and B) those are really elaborate lengths to go to for mediocre fried fish. Also, I don’t remember there being a specific type of breading that chip shops have to use. Anyway. The fish and chips was nothing super special. Chips were the thin kind with skins on, not the«steak fries» kind you’ll see around a lot of London and York chip shops. Anyway. I think I just got my hopes up a little too high with the reviews. The beer selection is good, the waitstaff was attentive, the food is reasonable, just not what I expected from an, «authentic» place. If you’ve never been to the UK, you’ll have a fabulous time. If you’ve been a few(or many) times, it’s a nice little place. Oh, and Kristian G? ;) An authentic pub wouldn’t have *cold* beer.

As close as you can get to England with out crossing the pond! English food gets a bad wrap — I don’t know why — how can you go wrong with Shepard“s Pie and Bangers? Great beer and whiskey/scotch selection.

YIKES! This is indeed an authentic British pub. The food tasted like every British pub I’ve visited: bland, tasteless & boring. The staff is very friendly and«pub like». The beer is cold. That’s about it!

In a sea of chain restaurants and concrete jungles, this little gem of a pub is an oasis of high-quality British comfort food and American hospitality. We knew from the moment we walked in that we were in for a treat, but we couldn’t have asked for a better experience in any way! For starters, they have quite a few British beers on tap. I chose Boddington’s, with a cool creamy head and very little carbonation; my husband opted for a hoppier, fizzier IPA. Both were served promptly by the barmaid, who was doing double duty waiting on tables and patrons at the bar but managed to keep tabs on all of us at once! We enjoyed our drinks and the British rock(Bowie /Beatles /Monty Python) while drinking in the wonderfully cozy atmosphere: quite a few regulars at the bar and a few tables, surrounded by Union Jack flags and photos. Our first course was a simple salad: crisp and fresh lettuce, cucumbers and grape tomatoes with thick, homemade bleu cheese dressing. We had asked to split a side salad, and our server kindly did this in the kitchen so we didn’t have to eat off of one plate. Our entrees were both incredible. My husband ordered an appetizer combination of sausage rolls and fried fish. I didn’t much care for the sausage rolls(a little bland for my taste, though nice and crispy) but the fish was a revelation — very thin, crispy batter covered tender, flaky filets in a combination I didn’t think could be achieved on this side of Heaven. My shepherd’s pie was the best I’ve ever had, and I’m something of an aficionado: I liked that they served the peas alongside, so they didn’t get mushy in the stew but could be added one mouthful at a time. The potatoes were creamy, fluffy and crispy on top; the meat was delicately spiced and suspended in a light gravy, not at all heavy or greasy. As wonderful as the other items on the menu sound, if we ever came back to the area I’d have a hard time passing up a second go-round of this dish. We were dying to try the Christmas pudding, but a combination of a pressing schedule and already-full bellies held us off. I can only hope to make it back sometime, and know I would take quite a detour to return!
