What I miss about NC! The food. MD just doesn’t compare.
Got away to Wilmington to escape the blizzard. I’m from NC, but it’s the only city in the state I’ve never explored. Being that it’s the only spot south of MD within driving distance that escaped the blizzard, I said what the heck!
Found this spot on my way to a stroll to explore downtown. They have a vast menu, but I chose the ham, salami, and cappicola on a wheat sub bun. It was on special. Ahh this reminds me of the old fashioned sub shops. Option to get it hot or cold, so I got it hot. Man those thinly sliced onions just perfect for subs, cherry peppers, oil and vinegar, and oregano. Just melted in my mouth!
I washed it down with some type of flavored lemonade, raspberry or strawberry maybe? Not sure but it’s good.
Very good customer service too! They speak upon your entrance, and actually call your name when your order is ready. One of the few things I like about the south, actual customer service.
Only gave it 4 stars because the sub wasn’t sub heaven, but it was pretty close to it! Would definitely return on another visit to Wilmington.

Wilmington mom and pop classic! These subs are delish! Don’t sleep on this place if you are in the area– I’ve been going here for years! My personal fave is the chicken Philly but they have lots of other great subs.

I love the sub stop the first time I ever had it was about two months ago and since then we have had it at least 5 times. Absolutely best sub shop in Wilmington! I get the 13– vegetarian all the way and my husband gets different subs but if you like subs this is your place… they close to early like 8pm so don’t delay lol!

One of my favorite lunch spots in town! Luckily I am right around the corner but need to cut back because I could easily eat there 3 times a week. My go-​to is the #17 which is a Steak and Cheese sub which is glorious and gooey.
My second favorite option is the Famous Pizza Burger! You simply cannot go wrong with that! I promise.

Good basic old «hole in the wall» sub shop. Great «stick to your ribs» steak and cheese with lots of options to choose from but minimal filler and the hamburger aint bad either especially the combo deal. Their tuna cheese sub even has some flavor since even the tuna salad is made there on site. This place seems to go to extra mile for their customers.
You get either a whole large sub you probably will not finish in one sitting or a half which you will finish eating but then want more later on and the prices are all pretty decent so go on and splurge.

I hate to do this but something has changed. The bread is different and really not good. There is way less meat on the sandwiches now and the whole thing is just put together sloppy.
I used to love this place and I’m not sure what happened but I wont be back. Maybe there was a lack of profit so cutbacks in quality? Not sure but the quality is down and just not worth it anymore. I’m sorry Sub Stop but I wont be back.

Classic tasting deli style subs. About same price as subway but way way more fresh and tasty.

Don’t bother going to Subway where the ingredients are mostly garbage and the price is too high. Sub Stop has everything you could ask for and more. Echoing the ‘order a whole’ sandwich comment! It’s definitely worth it.
And they had great tea. That is always a HUGE bonus for me, being a sweet tea fan. I had to get two cups and refill to take with.
I like how the sitting area of the store is set up as well. Friendly service, though they do get a little busy.
All in all, great sandwich! Would go back, certainly. Especially for those prices. Extremely reasonable.

I popped in here one afternoon, and I was blown away. This place was amazing. You know any place that does oil and vinegar standard, knows how subs are supposed to taste (none of that Subway saran-​wrapped meat packet crap)
I just tried a turkey/​swiss, but I WILL be back anytime I’m in that neighborhood. Cool laid back atmosphere. Just what you want a local place to be… no corporate nonsense.
Great food, great value… what else do you want?!

Love the Sub Stop Burger! The perfect combination of flavors and at $ 5 for the sandwich, fries and a drink… it’s a bargain.

I am a big fan of good sandwich and it doesn’t get any better than Substop! I have been going here for about a year now and have tried numerous subs… I have to say that I like each of them equally! Do not let the curb appeal fool ya, best sub in town!

Great subs, fast service, decent people. I mean the build doesn’t look like much from the outside, but if you are looking for a sandwhich, you should definately stop. There is a reason they have been open for 40 some years.

It’s like the «Frontier» for subs. I got to visit a couple more times to find the sub to keep me coming back.

OK — I seriously misjudged this place — so let’s correct that now! After going back several more times I am a fan.
The subs are great. They don’t my «top 5» sub stops, but they are close. WAY — WAY — WAY better than Jersey Mikes or Subway. Plus for the price you can’t beat it. Do yourself a favor and order a whole. The price difference isn’t much and you can always save the rest for later. And lastly, as extra little bonus ~ they have the good ice. IF you have to ask «what is good ice» then never mind, but for those of you who get it — there you go.
OK — so to sum it up, I’m a nutter! Sub Stop has my complete and utter approval!

Went here for a quick lunch after reading a few reviews here on Unilocal… and because it was across the street from where I was getting my car fixed. The sign says that it has been open since the 1970’s so that is always good! There were quite a few people there as it was the beginning of the lunch rush. The employee’s were all friendly fast and efficient, the prices were good… and the food was too. I had a mushroom cheesesteak and it was definitely greasy but very good. Definitely a great place to go on a cold day when you are craving something hot. There was a line when I walked in and I was able to order and eat in, in about 15 mins. Cheap, quick, tasty. Thumbs up.

Cool vibe, really tasty Steak and Cheese. I definitely agree with Matt, it dominates. I think their specialties lean toward the philly-​type steak and cheeses but I’m excited to explore the huge menu (italian subs, pizza steaks, burger specials which looked awesome). Lots of pepper choices which I dig. Very friendly and crowded during lunchtime. Specials are 4.25 for half subs and $ 6 w chips and drink… Try it out for sure before going to Subway, Andys, etc

The Sub Stop has some really good sub sandwiches. A good place to go for lunch, if you’re in the area. The steak and cheese just completely dominates.

Great food, service, and prices. Try the Philly cheesesteak and sub burger.
