I am in grad school and for the past year, I lived in Wilmington. I needed to find a place to do homework and get away from my daughter and all the distractions at home, so I headed over to the good ‘olé WPL! I spent a few days there over the course of a few weeks and I really found it to be a great place. I used one of the tables in the quiet seating area to do my work. It was quiet and the internet access was free. I was really happy with that. Additionally, the layout was nice and it didn’t feel cramped, despite it’s smaller size. The library only has two floors, but it is really very nicely laid out. I also spent some time browsing the stacks and found that they had a great selection of books and from speaking with the staff, they can get you books they don’t have in house through inter-library loan. They had flyers for classes they were offering and different groups that met there each week. It was really interesting to see all they had to offer. If you are a resident of Wilmington, I think you would be foolish to not go and check out all they have to offer.

I’ve driven by this place so many times and never gave it a second look – until this afternoon, that is. The library has the usual non-fiction, fiction, and magazines. They also have a small section of graphic novels, a CD collection and a DVD collection. The DVD collection has foreign films, feature films, fiction, and non-fiction. Despite it being a smaller library(I mean, BPL definitely dwarfs this place), I found their selection of books and media to be well thought-out. They’ve done a pretty solid job filling the space. The interior could use a little bit of updating and has a 1980s feel to it, but overall, it was great. The second floor houses their children’s section. The area has bright, perky-colored walls and cloud scenes painted on the shelves. There’s also a small wooden puppet theater in the corner. The Teen Zone is also on the second floor – a space with several computers for grades 6 – 12. On the way out, I peeked at their calendar of events – film viewings, classes, etc. They seem to have a lot going on. If you’re in the area, definitely check them out!
