Come here for one thing and one thing only: the enchiladas. You will not find any tacos de cabeza, posole, or really anything with cilantro, onions, or other ingredientes auténticos de México. This isn’t that kind of place. This is Tex-Mex in its purest, simplest form. That being said, there’s no reason to get any of the following here, because you will not find them to be anything special: tacos, tostadas, nachos, rice, beans, or anything else really. Get ENCHILADAS. Velia Nuñez makes her enchiladas like no other. They aren’t what you’ll find in a typical Mexican restaurant, or even in a commonplace Tex-Mex place. It’s not red sauce, it’s not green sauce… it’s a thick, oozy, yummy, cheesy, brown gravy-like concoction. If the elixir of the gods isn’t this stuff, I don’t know what is. It isn’t really a Mexican enchilada… but does it need to be? Take a bite and see what I mean. Hint: it doesn’t need to be. This is an EPIC enchilada. It’s filled with cheese, mostly, a little hamburger in there too… but the sauce that coats every inch of the thing and swims around it on its platter is what it’s all about. This 4-star review is focused just around this one dish… not that the other stuff is bad or anything, I just wouldn’t recommend getting it unless you come here like… every day. Which isn’t likely, because the hours are pretty sporadic, and she isn’t open on weekends. The 4 stars here are for the lovely enchiladas and the lovely lady who makes them. Hats off to you, Velia, I’ve never had another enchilada like this and never will.

Once upon a time(1981) in Winchester, there was a little place called«Nuñez». I was working an area from Richmond to Muncie to Portland, so I was in Winchester a couple of times a week. They had tacos like the tacos my family had brought to Indiana from California, even though they were from Texas. It was great to be able to sit down and eat without having to prepare a bunch of food. So, the other day when I learned about this place, I headed there, only to find it closed on the weekend. Bummer! So, today, I was still craving tacos(since my trip to/from California) and it seemed reasonable to burn a gallon of diesel fuel to go both ways. It’s a small restaurant, with just a few tables, but enough to get a crowd going. She has a good-sized menu, and I want to return to try almost everything. Okay, so you can see the photo of the taco – that’s singular – taco because I ate the other two before thinking about taking a photo. Yum. You can get hamburger or chicken. There is no carne asada or al pastor. That said, you should be trying these anyway. Food doesn’t have to be fancy to be good, does it? In the price, she includes lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese – three things that are not included with beef tacos at most Mexican restaurants – things I fail to get, even after I ask in Spanish. There were burritos, nachos, and more. I think you’ll find it a great no-nonsense restaurant that will please you. There were certainly plenty of customers in and out while I was eating in the middle of the afternoon.
