My expectations were really high before visiting the restaurant for the first time. The customer service is GREAT(very attentive), the food is okay and the place needs a makeover(looks old and need some serious cleaning, this is the impression I got as soon as I enter the restaurant). I went for breakfast on a weekend, the food was okay(I can make the same thing at home and probably better). I order the French toast and weren’t as good as expected. The banana bread was REALLYGOOD and the pie was good, not excellent(I tried the berry pie). Overall the place is okay, but I was expecting better pies, since is their specialty.

Oh marie’s! You have so much potential with two locations around town, this will be the most expensive non-5 star brunch you’ll «enjoy» in san antonio. I’ve been to some of the best, even mgm grand’s grand buffet, to compare. Marie callendar’s tries to come close, but still falls short. You can get fruit pies, quieche, fajitas, waffles, salad bar and cereal. You’ll make yourself an omelet or enjoy some ribs. Its not the most selectful buffet, there’s definitely some weird choices. Its something you’ll have to try for yourself and see if its for you. I will add this: the 35 location is extremely less populated than the callahan location. Usually you wait longer on your server than you do anything else. Our recent fathers day brunch we were lucky enough to have the best waiter ever. He brought several refills. Remember to request fresh bacon. Also, don’t pass up the unlimited drinks, which means get the mimosas(orange juice w/champagne), the cranberry juice, coffee AND iced tea. What can I say? I love beverages! Also, don’t forget to request a slice of pie to go(cheese cake excluded). Now that I think of it, for $ 15 and recent service, this restaurant really deserves 4 stars.

I always feel somewhat hesitant to review a restaurant which is part of a chain, because the fare is predictable from one location to the next… and frankly, there’s usually not much difference in quality from one location to the next, either. The Windcrest Marie Callender’s has earned this distinction, though, by offering food I think is better than its closest competitors(chains in the same price range which offer similar types of food) and by having a waitstaff which delivers consistently wonderful service to its patrons. Food here is, in my opinion, solidly in the 3.5 star category, based on a half-dozen or so visits over the past year. Some dishes are very good, some are just so-so…but overall I find the food above average for a chain, and the prices are reasonable, as well. Mostly, I’ve just had sandwiches, salads and pie(all satisfactory or better); and the brunch is good, as is the salad bar. Their in-house Thanksgiving dinner — while very basic with very few choices — is really good and very reasonably priced. The most astonishing thing about this restaurant, though(and what vaults it into the 4-star arena for me) is that there is little or no turnover of waitstaff, and the regular clientele — mostly very elderly folks — are on a first-name basis with the staff. Everyone is greeted with great enthusiam and warmth, and the service is impeccable. My most recent experience — apparently right before shift change — found my waitress doing her side work, trying desperately to leave so she could pick up her daughter and then go to her SECOND job. Even so, she was both cordial and attentive(even brewing a fresh pot of coffee for me, and offering me a cup«to go»). And — BONUS — the coffee is wonderful!

If you like pies and bake goods this is the place to get them at!!! Forget the Cheesecake Factory(that is an overrated anyway!). The bake good are all yummy and cheap!!! One of my previous bosses would always buy baked items from here and everyone was always pleased! Most of them were shocked that it was so yummy!!!

I just ate here last night for my 27th birthday! Right now they have some excellent specials going on due to MC60th anniversary; my dad got a burger, fries, and a slice of pie for $ 10! That’s a pretty darn good deal! They have several meals for $ 13 or less right now… I’d suggest going… you can add a slice of pie to any of those special meals for $ 2!!! I ordered the Grilled Chicken Fettucine Alfredo($ 8.99) last night, and it was really good… I normally order the Chicken and Broccoli fetucine alfredo… which is about $ 14… I didn’t miss the broccoli and saved $ 5! 2 of those $$ went to my slice of pie instead! ;-) I normally get the banana cream, but because I’m making a dessert like this this weekend for a BBQ we’re having, I opted for a different slice. I ordered up the apple and it was(of course) delicious! We had good, attentive service… and were glad that this was where we ended up… I had originally chosen Red Lobster(it’s my fav chain restaurant!) but seeing the large crowd of people waiting for tables, and standing next to the hostess for 5 minutes without being addressed caused us to take our business elsewhere!!! GORIGHTNOWANDCASHINONTHESEDEALS @ MC!!!

Their weekend brunch(or is it just on Sundays? Yeesh… my memory’s going already…) is really good! Well worth the money paid. Eggs, quiche, waffles, fruit, etc. And of course, I how can I not mention the MC pies? I think my favorite is the banana cream…
