We come here several times each season and always love it. Start off with a well chilled glass of Lillet with a slice of orange on the rocks. The hanger steak frites is one of my favorites, the escargot appetizer is another fav. I also recommend the French onion soup cooked in a puff pastry top. This is a great little french bistro right in the center of Main st Windham. They have a heated patio where you get a view of the action on Main street.

Great restaurant with wonderful outdoor seating for the warmer months. The appetizers, entrees, specials and deserts will leave you coming back for more. Beautiful atmosphere and great service make this one of my favorites. I find this a great spot for a date or dinner with family and friends.

Beautiful cozy restaurant, service & food was excellent. Being ½ French it brought so many wonderful memories of my mother’s cuisine. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We enjoyed ourselves, but the experience was a real mix. We were really excited to see a French Bistro in the small town and read that the restaurant had been voted«Best in County». Perhaps our expectations were unreasonable. Here’s the rundown: Hits: a) the wait staff was efficient and friendly b) sitting outside on the porch with a view of the mountain(still had snow) c) the wine list. Compact but varied and reasonably priced d) having escargots on the menu e) perfectly prepared medium rare filet mignon f) the stuffed Veal Scaloppini with prosciutto and fresh mozzarella with a Madeira wine demi glacé, Portobello mushrooms, potato gratin and haricot vert(green beans) g) the dessert — a scrumptious Lemon tarte, fresh whipped cream, vanilla ice cream and a very unFrench lemoncello Misses: 1) The heating and cooling on the porch. We were either melting or freezing 2) Wayyy too much parsley on the escargots(glowed green) 3) Both the au poivre(peppercorn) and bordelaise sauces for the steak were thin and lacked depth 4) The limp overdone green beans 5) The Lemoncello needs to be changed

Wow was this place bad, pretentious and annoying. Should have known when we caught attitude trying to make a reservation. Start with a proprietor with attitude. Reservation for 830 was not honored until 845. The owner/manager did not apologize but was clearly annoyed that we were annoyed. The tomato soup with pastry shell was gorgeous but tasted like red dishwater. Service was nonexistent. Place settings were partial and inconsistent(no knives or spoons for any of us, one salad fork for two of us and two salad forks for the lucky one.) No salt and pepper on table. Our waitress never checked on us at all prior or during meal and attempts to get her attention were consistently unavailing. Said soup sat untouched until wait staff came to clean it off.(Though they did take it off the tab.) Mussels were mediocre. I was not alone as I watched at least four mains sent back to kitchen and overheard at least two other departing tables complain about their meals. Overstuffed with tables, overheated, waitstaff kept kicking my chair. Could not get out fast enough. My reward for this lovely evening was a case of gastric distress to remind me of the meal. Apparently they have been voted best restaurant in Greene county according to their plaques. I hope this is a result of a publisher rewarding its advertisers and doesn’t reflect on the tastes of Greene county residents or the lack of decent dining options. Stay away. When in Windham keep it simple and go to Chicken Run or cave mountain. if you are jonesing for anything more sophisticated, run down the mountain to Hudson.

More like Brie and Bordon’t. Our appetizers were french onion soup which was overly cheesy throughout and lacked richness of flavor(and salt) as well as the baked brie which was decent. One of French cuisine’s predominant focuses is on the freshness of its ingredients. So, of course, the Bouillabaisse was probably not the wisest of choices in the Catskill mountains. However, the seafood lover in me went for it anyway against my better instinct. The«lobster» broth was very lacking in both the seafood flavor and seasoning departments. The watery broth had little discernible seafood taste imparted from any of the seafood in dish almost as if they’d been cooked separately of one another. The lobster was half a tail which was rubbery and flavorless. «Lobster broth» would indicate varied portions of the lobster would need to be used other than a shell-less half tail. The rest of the fish/shellfish in it wasn’t bad at all but still not enough to redeem this bland dish. Our second entrée was the duck which was ordered to medium rare(luke warm, pink center) which came out medium well(very little to no hint of pink in center). The pear served with the duck was interesting with notes of cinnamon but was unfortunately the star of the dish. A tart sauce accompanied the duck which was a bit overpowering. Overall, the best part of the meal was the Bordeaux bottle wine for $ 26 which was reasonable for a decent wine. Our server was also pleasant. At a price tag of over $ 120 with tip, this restaurant is a definite pass for us next trip to Windham.

The food here was delicious. The stuffed veal was amazing. The side of the duck dish was poached pear, which was sweet and a great addition to the duck. Also, the main salad dish was great and a very big portion. The French onion soup was yummy too! Overall, it was a great experience!

We live locally and have enjoyed ourselves each time we come. Stephan is a great chef with lots of attention to detail. The food is always terrific. We dine here 3 to 4 times per year. The wait staff is great and friendly, you can actually hear each other when you have a conversation. Sitting outside on the porch is lovely and is enclosed once the weather cools off. You can even see the fireworks at Windham mtn from the porch on holiday weekends. The food is always fresh, presentation terrific. Definitely A great place to eat. A bit higher priced compared to other restaurants in the area, but definitely worth it. The town of Windham is fabulous in general when it comes to dining choices! Make a reservation if it’s a weekend! Enjoy (if you like french fries GETTHE pomme frit!)

Everything was good here. Excellent classic French food in a lovely setting at a fair price. Well-prepared, good sized portions. A very sweet staff too. I like to complain(at least my family thinks so; ok everyone else too) but found everything to my liking. If you are in the northern Catskills don’t miss having dinner here.

This is by far the best restaurant in the area. We have some very picky French food eaters and they are always satisfied. The duck and salmon are standouts — as is the escargots. We had a 50th wedding anniversary here the other day and they pulled out all the stops for our group. Now we’ll be going back not only for the food, but for the great memories.

I know I can be selective about my food so here is my review. Pros: cozy, nice space, beautiful dish presentation. Cons: service awful. Young untrained kids severing at a French restaurant may not be a good mix. Had to wait serval minutes after our hot appetizer was served till we got our silverware. We had to ask several times for water refills and only the person who asked got a refill. The food: crab cake app was bland but looked great. The salad was not good and the veal was dry but had a great sauce that was good. If it was moist it may have been a great dish. Oh well! For 50.00 per person I expected more. The other couples did not comment so maybe their food was OK.

We got the baked Brie tart to start, it was awesome. I got the filet mignon with bernaise sauce and my boyfriend got the mussels. They were both delicious! The ambiance and staff were excellent.

Had dinner here during Columbus Day weekend. Dining room was casual, they also have a porch out front for seating. Started with the Brie tart which was good. I had the duck with poached pear, potatoes and haricot verts. The duck was ookay but, was a bit more rare then I would have liked. Plus, it wasn’t really that hot and the haricot verts were overcooked. There is nothing like a nice crunchy, buttery french green bean but, these were sad and soft. Had the crème brûlée for dessert, that was good. Funny thing the waitress said that they didn’t have classic crème brûlée but, had vanilla. Isn’t that what’s in crème brûlée? I found that the food did not deserve the high prices they charge. And the service? Oy vey, was it slow slow slow. and clueless. Every time we asked a question she had to go find out, seemingly taking her time doing so. The table next to us appeared just as frustrated as we; looking around for the waitress with heads shaking and shrugs. Our reservation was 7p and we didn’t get out until well after 9p. I would not recommend coming here. The food and service is not worth the price at all!

We made a 6 o’clock reservation, and were seated upon arrival. We had the baked brea appetizer, which was delicious. We each had an entrée; roasted chicken with sun dried tomato and broccoli rabe — cooked perfectly and the filet mignon with a peppercorn sauce. It was a decent sized portion and also cooked perfectly. The only reason I left off a star was the service was spotty, tables needed to be bussed and re set for next course. The food however was delicious!

Somehow, this place didn’t come up on my search for restaurants in the catskills, nor did it appear on TripAdvisor. Anyway, it was a lucky save, since a lot of restaurants get mixed reviews up here. We were in Windham for our anniversary, and I wanted a nice, if not totally mega fancy, place to take my wife. This place was great! It would have been 5 starts, but they cooked my filet mignon to almost medium rare when I ordered rare, and the bernaise sauce was sort of faked a bit(mayo base instead of a true hollandaise?)

I guess for Windham, I would give this place a 4 or 5 star rating. We stayed in Windham for Memorial Day weekend and the innkeeper recommended this place to us(along with Peekamoose, but it was a little far). We were so surprised at how crowded this place was! We ordered the roasted tomato soup(didn’t taste like the tomatoes were roasted and was lacking salt), onion soup(also lacked a bit of salt but otherwise it was much better than the onion soup I had at Landmarc in Columbus Circle the other day), hanger steak and rack of lamb(huge portion! 6 pieces! Unthinkable in New York City: p I ordered it medium rare expecting it to be medium, and I was right…). We had a crème brûlée for dessert, which was really good! All the sides for the main course were cooked really well. Service was a bit slow but it didn’t bother us too much. It was PACKED after all… I would definitely recommend this place to people who are visiting Windham. It was just what I needed– basic, simple food, and that’s what we got. I didn’t give it 4 stars because it’s not the kind of meal that I thought about the following morning.

I came here for a late Valentine’s dinner during the weekend. We came there a little after it opened for dinner — about 5PM on a Saturday. We didn’t have any reservations but easily got a seat. We ordered some bordeaux and it was $ 26 and delicious! My beaux had the short rib and I had a sun dried tomato gnocchi — my portion was just the right size — was probably a true serving. We also tried the brie soufflé appetizer since we were at Brie and Bordeaux! Next time we’ll skip the app and leave room for desert!
