Bridges lamps and weird plants The first library in Windham was started back around 1873 with the few books just shoved into available space in private homes. Like most early libraries the materials were just moved around until a small building was found to become a permanent home. As the town of Windham grew so did the need for a larger library so in 1971 the present building was constructed. It served well but eventually proved to once again be too small. So a huge addition was completed in 1993 and now Windham has a nice size library with lots of materials and space. The library is lovely inside and out. Lots of very cool lights and paintings on the walls and some very unusual looking plants creep around staircases and corners. Outside is a nice garden and a cool little covered bridge. A nice place to relax with a good book or magazine. The librarians here were very friendly and knowledgeable and were more than pleased to give us the whole history of the town. Windham has a wonderful, practical, and very lovely library. A great example of how a small town library doesn’t have to be boring and ordinary.
