The weather has been amazing the past few days. I finally had a chance to kayak for the first time this season. We took our kayaks to Bissell Bridge Boat Launch which is part of Windsor Meadows State Park. I remember going to this location last year and the water was cleaner but after my visit this past weekend I don’t think we will be headed back. The boat launch area is easy to find but once on the river the scenery wasn’t all that great. The boat launch area is paved so no messy muddy area for potential falls. The site seems to be very popular because as I was dragging my kayak down to the water I noticed more than a handful of visitors coming in and out. I don’t care for the tides here, once you leave the launching area you have to paddle upstream. I was beyond frustrated because the view wasn’t pretty. The water was calm but it wasn’t worth the struggle to paddle up a few yards. I couldn’t even paddle up to the little islands at the mouth of the Farmington. There are a few picnicking areas but I didn’t utilize them. My overall impression is that I won’t be going back because the water was dirty. I wouldn’t want to flip over and fall into the muddy waters. Stick with the Farmington River, tons of people and the view constantly changes. Unless I was desperate I won’t be going back because I felt like I was kayaking in a sewer. On the plus side the boat launch does have a walking trail. The Bissell Bridge Walkway Trail is right at the same spot.
