Garrett Ace Hardware

Good God. My 88 year-​old mother-​in-​law could have been badly injured or even killed today at Garrett’s. A large trellis was blown down by the wind barely missing her. Had it hit her head it would have caused great injury. Yet, when my sister-​in-​law informed the people in the store they gave it little notice. Amazingly, the two guys who picked up the downed trellis put it back as it was with NO anchoring. Obviously, the store would be negligent and liable for injuries or loss of life if it happens again and hits a customer. Clearly, new management is needed at that store.

The staff is SUPER friendly and helpful. The store is always clean, and it has everything! Love love love this store.

I have lived in Windsor for 20 years and have been going here for a long while. This morning I stopped by to pick up a couple traps for moles. I walked in hoping to get some help, and first employee I saw looked me straight in the eye and didn’t smile or say anything, just kept walking past me. This store was recently remodeled, so I was in the general area. I saw a lady, who may be the manager. I asked her where I could find mole traps. She said «you are in the NICE area», and said next row over is the «KILL ANIMALS» section. Thought the comment was inappropriate, but she did help me find what I was looking for.

I just discovered Garrett Hardware a couple weeks ago and have already made a return trip. The have a great outdoor plant nursery whereI was delighted to find Violets in 6pack containers ready for planting @ only 3.99! Perfect for my shady garden! I also spied some awesome quality bushes and trees I hope to come back for. They also happen to be a fully stocked hardware store and have a large pet product department. Other sweet features include 3 kitty mascots Sherman, Leo & Lucy and a menagerie of small birds for sale and a chicken coop with some house chickens & roosters.
This is a great old fashioned style business, refreshing and worth a visit or two, or three…

As one of those people who wants to be cost sensitive and yet support local businesses, I was reminded once again recently that although a price might be a few cents to a couple of dollars more, as this organization is far from huge and their ‘buying power’ is not that of the large box stores, you cannot pay for excellent service, commitment, and ‘seeing you through your issue’, no matter how minor. Recently my garage door opener failed again. A year ago, the helpful staff assisted me. Recently, it ‘broke again’. I went to the store, they changed the ‘remote’ battery just in case, even though this represented only a portion of the problem. A gentleman looked up the remote and opener on line, listened, gave me a series of things to try, printed out a variety of instructions for FREE… and it worked. In today’s hurry up, stand in line world, the fact they that employee knowledgeable, dedicated people and are always ready to assist has reminded me that I will support this business permanently. Couldn’t be more grateful and could run over ‘endlessly’ about what an asset this place is to this Community!

Really great store for home projects, tinkerers and hobbyists. This place has something for nearly every project. The customer service is always great. Reminds me of my small town hardware store but with a much larger stock.
Great place to buy a mower, buy small parts, screws, garden supplies and more.

I wrote a review in 2011 and I want to write another outstanding review for Garrett’s Ace Hardware, in Windsor. I do my best to shop local when ever I can. Jim, in the Garden department, is awesome. He gives excellent customer service, knows his products and will go out of his way to help customers.
This week I bought in our garden hose that was damages. And instead of trying to see me another one he offered to repair it.
And that is why I continue to go back again and again. You should too. The Windsor store is a ***** 5 star store. Thanks Jim.

Great store, helpful people and a lot more than just nuts and bolts. Ball canning jars, cast iron skillets, cute metal watering cans, garden stuff, housewares, etc. Hardware stores are fun. I forgot how fun they can be when they’re not stocked floor to ceiling in a huge warehouse-​like setting… I like to check out every aisle, as I would in an antique mall, and discover all the things I never knew I needed.
It’s closer to me now, and is also on my way home from work, so I’m not as likely to go to the big box store across town anymore.

Instead of removing my negative review, why not invest in some customer service training (including management)?
If you did, you could have a friendly, helpful, local store where I enjoy shopping.

I asked the person at the desk at ACE for a Craftsman garage door opener as my contractor had sent me to get one. She didn’t know what that was, so she called an older man who brought me some other type of garage door opener. I asked if it was ok? My contractor had said Craftsman. He was patronizing and said I didn’t know what I was talking about so I should buy it.
When I brought it to the contractor he said because it was not compatable he would have to re-​wire the garage where the switch was and there would be sheetrock repair and paint and it would be $ 350 extra. I paid the contractor to go to Sears (I didn’t know but that is where I should have gone). And got one.
The people at the Windsor store tend to be rude. I have had several keys cut there that didn’t work, so I would not go there for that.
IF YOU ARE A WOMAN DON’T GO THERE! THEY WILL TREAT YOU LIKE A CHILD!
When I went to return the garage door opener I was treated like a theif (I’m a realtor and have been for 18 years).
I brought a broken hose for a washing machine and asked for another one. Again a man was called out, but the hose didn’t look anything like the one I brougth in. He was rude and said that it was because I don’t know about it (I manage 23 rentals and have soldr 300 homes and know what a washing machine hose looks like.
Again he insisted that he was right and walked away (very rude!) I installed the hose, but it was bent so bad in three places and not a flexable hose. I tried to staighten it with a plumbers wrench, rubber mallet and just by hand and it worked a little. I ran the washing machine and it would not drain. I again tried to straigten the hose. No luck and a washer full of wet blankets.
I called the manager and explained that I had asked for another type. Was assured that this was right by his staff. He told me to uninstall it and bring it back. I live about 2 miles from the store. It’s December 23^rd and I have work, family etc. I asked if he could have someone bring me one. He had an attitude that I was being unreasonable. I suggested that he bring one on Friday after the holidays and I would just not have a washer. He refused.
Healdsburg is a good ACE, it has a good staff who smile, not sneer, and will tell you if they don’t have a product.
DONT GO TO WINDSOR ACE!!!

5 stars all the way! If you need help with a product ask for Mark! They also make keys and have a paint department. The staff there is great and it has a nice stress free shopping environment.

Ever visit yields success! The staff is super friendly and they always have what I need. I like the Ace Rewards program too. Getting a $ 5 dollar voucher in the mail once in a while works for me. The store is always clean and pleasant.

Both the Windsor and Healdsburg stores are among the friendliest and helpful I’ve every been in. I will always go to them before Home Depot for personal service.

Kudos to Tito in the nursery department. He went above & beyond to find a hanging fuchsia, when there were none left in Santa Rosa!

Great selection, good help, decent prices — got my vote !!!
