I have been aware of this wonderful, ‘Out of the way, but Worth the trip” Shop, for a couple of years now, I have bought fabulous fabric and patterns, as well as received SOMANY great ideas from walking around the shop; browsing the back sewing room, and talking to the helpful staff there. They also offer an affordable and accessible teaching staff, that is ready to help you. It is possible to just use the sewing room for $ 5 a day, and get general help as needed, or for $ 15 you can set up an appt time, with a teacher for specific lesson. I feel so fortunate to have discovered Material Girl, both for their innovative and fabulous fabrics and patterns, as well as their amazing and helpful Staff!

Recently, an old friend was telling me about her first quilting project. She was RAVING about this shop, and I’ve never heard her do that before. I figured I’d give it a try based on her recommendation. I’ve always wanted to quilt, but the quilt shops I’d been in have been so, well — depressing. The fabric just hasn’t been my bag. Material Girl sits on what must be the border of Santa Rosa and Windsor. I’d driven past it hundreds of times, but finally went in last month. Wow — it’s like no quilt shop I’d ever been in before. They have gorgeous fabrics in a riot of color — no muddy batik prints here! They have lots of completed sample projects, and my daughter fell in love with an ottoman. The super-friendly staff helped me pick out the fabric and introduced me to the wonderful world of Amy Butler patterns. I’m in love with this place! Haven’t started my first quilt, but they offer lessons and I’m signing up this month.
