Has a real diy-independent vibe. Owners are very nice, they make their sides in-house. The food is good, prices are fair. Nice off-the-beaten path roadside food joint.

The times I’ve tried Vittles the BBQ has been blackened. I won’t go back, my wife didn’t like anything she’s ordered for BBQ. The sides are expensive for what you get, though they tasted okay. Finally, it doesn’t seem like the food prep is very clean. There is better BBQ in the area, try Hanover.

This is the kind of place you really like to run into. While on vacation we had decided we would have a BBQ feast on our last night and we were not disappointed. The oil tank smoker they were using put out some tasty treats. The brisket was juicy and tender. The ribs were nice and smoky with a nice rub that added a layer of crispiness. They were served dry with a selection of sauces you could apply. Go for the HELL sauce. A young brother and sister were daring me to try it while I was waiting for my order to finish crisping on the grill. It was nice and fruity with a nice habenero bite. I made sure I took plenty home. We also had pulled pork and chicken, both were sauced nicely with a nice smoky touch. The ladies who run this wonderfully rustic stop couldn’t be nicer. I was treated to some nice burnt ends, ribs and chicken while I waiting. Well worth the wait and the side dishes showed the love that went into preparing their food. Definitely stop in if you are traveling through Windsor on Rt. 5.

Went again today, the parking lot needs sweeping. But again the food was great ribs and cole slaw. I didn’t eat there because there were some flies outside, but good luck finding outside seating without flies in August in Vermont. Great BBQ.

Dirty with lots of flies. That was enough for me not to stay.

We ordered the brisket and chicken on a stick with potato salad, sweet potato salad, cucumber salad and corn bread. Sides were good, corn bread not bad. The brisket was at least 70% fat(not kidding here), bbq sauce was skimpy and tasteless(very sweet) and the chicken on a stick was dry and charred, no sauce or even a rub on it. Could not eat any of the meats for our picnic. Place is not clean. Price was according to what we got.

Good local BBQ. They did special orders for me. It’s quite a distance because I stay in Quechee, VT but… hey. good food takes effort. I believe they do catering as well. Good customer service and good people. Go try it out and support the local business.

Finally for to try the Vittles BBQ! Located on Union St across from the big St Francis of Assisi Church, this BBQ stop is very casual and some would be concerned regarding the sanitary conditions. It is what is is. A outdoor BBQ smoker and pit stop where one cooks and smokes meat outside. They do a fine job here. I am always skeptical when in VT, when you get non native food./ fare. However, the women here know what they are doing and It shows. We got some sandwiches for lunch. 2 beef briskets and pulled pork, So good! Moist and smoky, full of smoke flavor. The sauces are homemade and excellent, Love the HELLSAUCE. The owner woman is so nice and friendly. She even gave some meat ends to our dog who was with us. It was so kind and appreciated. We will be back.

This was a decent place to get lunch. We had ribs and pulled pork sandwiches and both were delicious. The ribs came with a choice of two sides, my friend chose the potato salad(a little on the eggy side) and very tasty coleslaw. Lunch for two totaled less than 15 dollars. This place gets two stars because it was dirty. There were flies everywhere and that could easily turn someone off from wanting to eat a meal. The owner and service was fine. Overall it was a reasonable and tasty lunch experience.

This is a treat if you’re in the Windsor area! We rolled in just after 8, not knowing they were closed. They pretended they weren’t and SO nicely helped us to one of the most fun and festive meals we’ve had in awhile. My niece and her boyfriend were up from NYC, and it was fun to stand there in the parking lot and chat with the cooks while they put together a FEAST for us. It is a fun set-up, totally casual. We felt like we were crashing somebody’s block party and they were happy to have us. We especially loved the brisket, the chicken and the FABULOUS hot sauces made with fruit and habaneros. We also got a full rack of ribs(huge) and pulled pork(a bit too much sauce on the pp — our only complaint) The family plans are a terrific bargain, the sides are yummy, and all the prices are beyond fair. The bbq is smoked in a giant smoker in a tent set up in the driveway outside their home, and a sign you can see from the street. There are a couple of picnic tables, or you can have everything packed up to go home. Website with menu:
