Just like home. Great staff. Great service. Great food. You won’t wait long for your food, and if there is anything wrong(which usually there isn’t) they correct it right away with a smile.

the first thing we did was stop in this Diner for brunch before exploring the surrounding area. The fried burger wasn’t what I’d hoped(the batter fell apart and had a heavier than expected greasiness) but it didn’t stop me from inhaling it. Excited to check out the other items we ordered a variety of items, and we can’t say we were disappointed with any of the selections. IF you’re looking for something fancy or gourmet, then this isn’t for you, but the menu was something out of the ordinary and it still hit the spot as we were ravenous(the charming staff helped too).

We came with family and nearly everyone decided to try the The Wingate, a monstrous, deep-fried pile of awesomeness. I had BBQ+Bleu Cheese combo, and it was sublime. Fresh ingredients, quick service – all around a wonderful little diner. Worth a drive and a half, at least. :-)

Best kept secret on I80. Not your fathers diner. Restored country inn. Hand cut fries as good as they come. Nice lunch menu. Helpful attentive chef. Makes you feel like old time friends. Btw can’t be the prices

We were driving through and stopped for a light lunch. Tea and chili. Our service was friendly and efficient, and the chili was hearty and tasty. The other customers were friendly as well. Our over-all feeling was of belonging. The price was good as well.

Mountain Valley Diner is a casual American restaurant serving homestyle fare for lunch and dinner, which is located in an old Victorian house at the corner of Alt US220 and PA144 in Wingate. The atmosphere here is homey and rustic. The dining room(seat yourself) has booths and tables, a fireplace, and the place is decorated with deer heads and bear statues. A boombox places music from a local station. The menu offerings here include a variety of sandwiches, burgers, salads, soups, comfort dishes/dinners, and desserts. It is noted that the sandwiches come with only a pickle, so fries are an extra charge. Dinners come with choice of starch and another side, dinner rolls provided only if requested. Specials are offered here too. I stopped here for an early dinner recently. The place was filled with senior citizens! I ordered the MV Meatloaf($ 9.99) with mashed potatoes w gravy and a side of macaroni salad(most diners here like the cole slaw). The small side of macaroni salad came out first, which had a very sweet flavor. The Meatloaf consisted of a big long grilled piece which had a firm texture, slightly dry inside, but tasted fine. The mashed potatoes were soft and the brown gravy(not thick) was good. The service was pleasant with only one waitress/hostess taking care of the entire dining room and I was checked on often and given a refill on the ice water. The food was decent overall, nothing to brag about, but it was filling.

Hearty breakfast, generous portions, warm and friendly homey service conveniently off I-80, though not open til 11am weekdays.(breakfast apparently weekends only) But owner Shirley’s son Travis welcomed and served me at 10:40am on Monday. Good alternative to the restaurant chains. Seating comfortable and nice tables, though décor and seats themselves are a second-hand mish-mash. Very clean restrooms. Won’t impress a first date, but very comfortable for travelers, couples, families and locals. Am told they have a banquet room upstairs, live music Tuesdays and karaōke(except during holiday season).
