LOVE, love, LOVE Erbert’s! We are in Winona every summer for the Shakespeare Fest and Erbert’s is one of our favorite spots for fresh and fast food.

After studying the menu for some minutes I decided on a Narmer. The pleasant staff offered a choice of 3 mustards to add to the reduced mayo portion. The sandwich was good although I can’t exactly explain why. The sandwich and chips were moderately satisfying, perhaps because I was overly hungry. There used to be an Italian restaurant, Cesar’s in Forest park, Il with good food and excellent sub sandwiches. The meats and cheeses were hand sliced and placed in excellent crusty bread. This is my standard. No current sandwich shop comes close. Still, I give Erbs & Gerbs 4 relative stars placing it above that much advertised national place.

Best gluten free bread in town! So glad they made the Spartan a menu mainstay, it’s my favorite. Delivers late, stays open late. Great soups, fun atmosphere, this is a chain that really works.

Very surprised and happy that Gluten Free options are offered, including soup. Staff took preparation seriously and cross contamination is not a concern as the sandwich is made in a dedicated area. Pleasantly surprised the staff in Winona knew the importance of what gluten free meant.

The smell of fresh bread is a real knock-out, but my sandwich was just so-so. They seem to skimp on the meat and you end up with a pretty high-carb, low protein experience. On the positive side, staff was friendly and efficient, the place is clean, and it’s rumored that they deliver really late for cramming students at WSU!

They have a variety of sandwiches, salads and soups. And they delivered fairly quickly even though we called in our order at a quarter to noon on a weekday. I had the Narmer(turkey, avocado, sprouts and maybe cheese) on wheat and a cup of the Cheesey Enchilada soup. Both were delicious. Just be warned they have odd names for the sandwiches. But they taste good so I didn’t mind.
