One word: Breakfast. Make that a classic, greasy, leave so full you wish you hadn’t eaten the last bite breakfast. I had the biscuits and sausage gravy, which reminded me of my mothers homemade biscuits and gravy. Just enough flavor to the gravy and perfectly cooked biscuits. I will admit when I’m in a place like McGrane’s I tend to go for the biscuits and gravy because I like to compare and I’m pretty picky when it comes to the biscuits(no burnt bottoms, just enough fluff) and these lived up to the standards. My friend had a western omelette. He told me I could leave a raving review for it. The vibe is a small town diner with hints of Ireland all around. The breakfast is good if you’re in the mood for it. Again think greasy, delicious and fulfilling. Biscuits and omelettes are my recommendations! The coffee ain’t so bad either.

Was in the Winsted area at Noon today, so stopped at McGrane’s on the Green for a lunch take-out. Went in a bit blind, signs in front indicated the place was either a diner or a sandwich shop. Or a pizza joint. Whatever, I was hungry and I was about to find out what the story was. Ordered the Cajun Turkey Melt sandwich w/sweet potato fries. Meal came out after a short wait, was $ 7.95 plus tax. While I was waiting, noticed that McGrane’s had a Boston-Irish theme to it(but I didn’t hold that against them, even though I am a Yankees’ fan). Hit the road with my food and ate it overlooking a nearby lake. The Cajun Turkey Melt was very tasty, meat had the right amount of spice, bread was toasted perfectly. I would certainly drop in again if I’m in the area.

Flies everywhere. It’s not okay. Flies are not a problem in Winsted. I should not have I shew 5 flies from my table to sit down, so we walked out today. It’s a shame; we had been going for a while for great breakfasts, and ordering pretty good pizzas.

3.5 stars actually — McGrane’s has good lunch /dinner /breakfast food, with excellent value. A real plus for this place is… breakfast food anytime of day, not just during breakfast hours. McGranes is –not–«fine dining» and is much more along the lines of being a good local diner. The seating arrangements for a table is really oddball and it can be hard to know where to sit.
