This is a cute family run diner. We asked the waitress what her ‘favorite’ lunch was and she recommended the smoked, then BBQ’d brisket sandwich with carmalized onions, which was not on the menu. It was delicious! If it’s a pleasant day, eat outside on the patio.

Very nice man who runs the place — easy to talk to. The inside is very small, it’s an old school diner where you can watch everything being made(only stool seating). He offers breakfast all day, hot dogs, hamburgers, French fries… the basics. And they’re not bad at all. I stopped in for a quick breakfast omelette. The coffee was average, pretty good, and there was nothing to complain about with the omelette, it was very stuffed full of ingredients and tasty! The best part of this place is that it’s a quaint diner, with quaint small town prices. 4 bucks for 2 eggs, hash browns and toast, and you leave full and happy. Stop by and support a local business if you’re in town not looking for anything too fancy but filling.

Unique and worth a detour. Amazing burger, fries and hot dog. One of the best I have ever had. Best part is the seasoning they put on the burger. Only downside is that you have to walk into the basement to get to the bathroom.

Out on the motorcycle on a cool November day. I drove by this place hundreds of times and today I went in. Nice place, great atmosphere and as far as the grub goes I had a sausage egg and cheese and it was good. I’m sure everything else is as well. He serves ribs so thats a plus. Great conversation with the owner about life’s trial’s and tribulations and it made me go back to a simpler time in my life. I will definitley return before snow fall.

Good things come in small packages. Lured into the diner by a kitsch-y hot-dog-man sign, we were thrilled over and over again by the great food(try the onion rings and the chili); great specials(BBQ! Try the pulled pork); and fantastic service and conversation with the proprietor. Simple fare includes burgers, dogs, fries and the like; breakfast available, too.

This is the real thing. In addition to a great breakfast omlette prepared to our specifications, we were treated to an interactive discourse on the news, an interesting soliloquoy on the art of barbecue and a most enjoyable hospitality experience courtesy of the owner, who also serves as Chief Cook and Bottle Washer. Hurry down to The Real Thing. There aren’t many left.

Tasty fresh grilled burger and hand-cut fries in a no-frills 12 seat diner. Don’t come here expecting gourmet fare, or anything over top. But do expect to get american staples done right.

The absolute best! The food, the atmosphere, the pricing. Plus she is amazing at taking care of her community. Almost every time I’ve been there, she has fed someone who might not have been able to feed themselves otherwise. A true treasure to this community!

We used to go here when we were really drunk and no other place was open. The thing I remember most is that swearing would get you kicked out… I think its under new management now so who knows if that still stands. The food is greasy and everything you should expect from a late night diner.

A great little late-night boxcar diner, the Winsted Diner is run by an older husband & wife duo who keep late and somewhat unpredictable hours, staffing the restaurant mostly in the middle of the night for people keeping inhuman hours. Grab a seat on the short counter and try the sausagedoodle sandwich for a near-immediate heart attack of egg, cheese, and sausage.
