I’ve been to this restaurant three times, and each time, it smelled like mop water. Whoever owns this place needs to realize that the smell of mop water is unappetizing. I will never go back.

Was in Winston for work and did not realize this place was close by. Dropped in after work for a to go experience. The setting is very cool in that it is a former gas station and the inside is large and has a bar too. I thought it was clean but noticed sanitary grade was only a 90 — always concerning. Service was kind and quick. Mostly sandwhiches on the menu and it’s a very small menu. Maybe 12 options total. I went with a classic grilled cheese and BBQ chips. Grilled cheese was good not great. The three cheeses was the best part. The BBQ chips were a brand called rye street and they were very average. Overall it was okay and I liked the grilled cheese but would not make a special trip to come back.

Not a bad sub shop. Lots of TVs, beer(must), with a retro thing going on. I love the West End location, though the front parking lot is tiny. I’m a Southern boy with a big ass manly truck so I need lots of room to get my truck into a parking spot. So on to the food. I ordered the guido special. Not to shabby. I enjoyed it. The old lady got the same thing but in a salad. She wasn’t as impressed, but that’s what she gets for ordering a salad. My boy(over 21BTW) got a Sloppy Pete. Ok, this sounds messed up but it is a sandwich. Something like a sloppy joe. He seemed happy. We also tried the jalapeño bottle caps, which are cut jalapeños, battered, and fried. I enjoyed them though they were a bit oily. So overall I recommend this place. I will be back.

The subs here are fantastic. The bread is perfectly toasted, with slices of high quality meats, cheeses, and veggies. You gotta love a place that’ll give you real avocado slices. The best part about this place are the baked pickle spears with chipotle mayo. It’s always been clean, and the seating is very comfortable.

I went in on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty dead. I saw that they changed their winter hours to close earlier. We probably waited at least ten minutes until someone came and took our order at the counter. I really like that you can chose from a 4″, 6″, or 12″ sub. It was right around $ 20 for two 6inch subs with chips and drinks. I thought this was a little steep but I get that they are putting pricier ingredients in your sandwich like hummus or avocado. I went with the Little Wren which had turkey, tomatoes, hummus, avocado, sprouts, and olives. It was okay. The humus kind of over powered everything and I was expecting Greek olives to be on it not black. The bf got their version of the Italian sub and it was really good! I will be back, I’ll probably go for lunch when their waitstaff will be hopefully more on their game. Also just a tip on Tuesday it is $ 2 beer bottles night! They had a good variety of craft beef as far as i could tell.

My Barnyard footlong here was a thin sub topped with meat and eggs. It was a little light on the fillings but I thought it was a decent sandwich for $ 10. I especially liked the egg salad on the sandwich and wished there was more! I wouldn’t say that the sandwich is a good value, but I definitely enjoyed the flavors. The Mrs. and I really enjoyed it after going to the Theatre Alliance next door and now I keep getting hints from the Mrs. to come back. I still haven’t tried anything else besides the Barnyard and will update my review as I get to know Bob’s a bit more.

Always delicious. Great subs, beers and friendly service. Pick a sub or make your own.

Tasty sandwiches served up in an old gas station. The staff seems to enjoy working here and it shows in the food. Killer sweet potato fries! I like that you can order a reasonable sized sandwich, the four inch, that way you can have a really nice treat and not eat too much, cause whatever size you order, lets face it, its going down the hatch. I’ll be back next time I swing through town.

This is a solid sandwich shop that also serves beer and wine. The staff is friendly and the sandwiches are all pretty good. I like to sit at the bar and have a beer while I wait for my food. The Sassy Kat and the Southern Lady are my favorite sandwiches, although I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that didn’t look good. It’s cool that they renovated an old gas station to make this place. I like the way the place looks and the general theme of the business.

This place is a sandwich and beer place that is a little bit more upscale than the average sandwich place. The management and staff were friendly, and the décor is nice. I didn’t check out their beer selection at the bar, but it didn’t seem like there were many brews on tap. Got the Left turn at Albeturkey sandwich when the honey bunny and I came here on a whim. The sandwich itself was decent, but nothing out of the world. The sandwiches each have their own little flair, but I really didn’t taste anything that would separate Bob’s subs from the rest(she got the Little Wren). It’s good, but the sandwiches are a little bit pricey for what you get. I really don’t know what to make of this place; it’s sort of a tweener type of place. It’s nicer than your average sandwich spot, but at the same time I don’t see it being nice enough to command the prices on the menu. Nor are the sandwiches good enough either. In my opinion you can get a sandwich that’s just as good at Jimmy Johns for cheaper. Bottom line, I’d come to try it out to form your opinion, but this place would not be on my regular rotation of spots to eat at. Check out burke street pizza for a better sandwich.

First visit: Owner Bob was very welcoming and attentive, especially on a busy theater night. Great selection of NC beer and wine. I loved the Sloppy Pete and yes I made him«angry». We will be back for sure!

Since I’m new to the area a coworker has been taking me to various places that he considers good during lunch. This has definitely helped in learning the lay out of the land. Out of all the places we’ve gone to this one seems to be quite high on the list and I can’t complain. The sandwiches are good, fairly cheap and the service is wonderful. I do wish I didn’t just go there for lunch because I’m certain a beer would go down great with one of their sandwiches.

I’ve only been once(late lunch), and I don’t think I’ll be returning. For me the prices were especially high for not very good food. The atmosphere was exactly as you’d imagine given the picture — kitshy, high ceilings, lots of booths. very reasonable for a diner. However, I didn’t enjoy my meal and I remember being annoyed at the pricing structure around sides. It was something like the sandwich plates were already very pricey for what they were, but if you wanted their special side of the day you had to pay an upcharge or something.

I’d read several reviews on google and other sites including this one and expected so much more out of this place. I have to say the staff was extremely friendly. I like that you order at the register and they bring it to you and the drink station is self service. They also have cheerwine where most places don’t. DH got the«Sloppy Pete» and he said it was just typical manwich. Other than the fact they add lots of cheese and the bread is good the actual manwich was no different than the canned stuff which he was really disappointed since we’d read such good reviews about the sandwich. I do like the sub bread they use. It’s not like subway or any of the other sub shops. It’s got a good crust but not hard at all and it’s easy to eat. I got the«Left turn at Albeturkey». I liked it but I do wish it would have a different type of meat. I would like it more if it weren’t deli meat. All their sandwiches are deli meat and it would be nice if some were like chicken strips or some type of grilled chicken or turkey. That sandwich just had so much more potential. The one real reason I don’t think we will go back is the parking lot. It only has 6 parking spaces but they have add’l parking up the street but it’s not really much parking and honestly it’s not the part of town I want to go walking down the sidewalk at night. I don’t think it’s a bad area but it’s not very well lit and I wouldn’t go there at all by myself. The inside is really cool though. You can tell it really did used to be a gas station. There’s a garage bay and everything. It does look like a good place for young people to hang and have some drinks and watch games or something. BTW I’m NOT a picky eater. I’m typically very lenient with reviews and rate things a little higher than the average person. I just think I had too high of expectations before we went. I wanted it to be so much more since I’d never been before. I’m not saying I will never go back but it doesn’t look promising.

I met Bob, he was super friendly, and a nice server(Carley) was the best. I heard they have fun parties sometimes, and for Halloween«zombies» will infest? So come by Bob’s– it’s got a fun vibe, and a nice location near-ish to Wake. Have a beer, watch a game, grab a bite to eat, just try it for goodness sake!

Great setup here — a retro gas station exterior, all shiney and white; a nice roomy dining area with tables, and a separate bar area with more seating, and big screen tvs. The interior is plain and functional. Food is ordered in the typical fast food style — go to the counter, give the nice lady your order, pay, and wait for your food. Sandwiches come in 4″, 6″, and 8″ sizes, which is kinda neat. There are 10 menu sandwiches listed, they usually have a daily special or two, and you can build your own sub from thelist of meats and cheeses. And they offer four or five side dishes like pasta salad, fried pickles, etc. The«Sloppy Pete» is their version of the childhood favorite«sloppy joe» with munster cheese. It contains a thick, meaty beef mixture with some definite heat from the added item, Texas Pete, thus the name. You can get a side of pepper relish, but this thing doesn’t need it. This is indeed a wet, sloppy sandwich, and if you choose to eat it in the traditional fashion, I would suggest a raincoat or go at it nake in the shower, with the curtain pulled. I chose a knife and fork approach, and escaped with only a small spot on my shirt, and an even smaller one on my pants leg. Good sandwich here, worth the effort and planning. The” Left Turn At Albeturkey” is sliced turkey, pepper-jack cheese, pico de gallo(which has plenty of nice cilantro in it), lettuce, black bean spread, and guacamole. Lots of nice tastes here, although the turkey is of the paper thin, deli variety, and loses itself among the other, stronger flavors. The«Southern Lady» is IG’s Pimento Cheese, peppered bacon, and avocado. Again, some nice flavor combinations is this sandwich. The pimento cheese has some spice to it, but the whole combination benefits from a nice dose of salt and pepper. All in all, this is a nice choice for a solid sandwich that is a little off the beat track. The sub rolls are nice, crusty and flavorful. The service is quick, and the prices are reasonable — we got 24″ subs, and 16″ for just over $ 14. The parking lot is very, small.

This is one of my new favorite places! Poppy’s Pesto Pollo sub is superb. The pesto is terrific. My only comment is that it would be a little better if they did not use thin, lunch-meat-style chicken. Regardless, the bread and the pesto more than make up for that. I only get the 4 inch. While I didn’t think that would be enough, it is more than I can eat when I get their fantastic breaded pickles along with it. They are not what you would expect with a breaded pickle spear(see: Big Shots fried pickles) as they are much less greasy. Furthermore, they come with the dipping sauce that ranch dressing wishes it could be. I suppose it could be described as a chipotle ranch dipping sauce. Furthermore, they have great draft beers. I was pleasantly surprised to see Shotgun Betty on draft. The renovation of this place is neat with the big garage doors remaining. A previous reviewer noted that it would be neat if they opened them up for live music. I would second their thought. If that does go down, I’d really love to be there. There is a general«fun» theme about the place, often with people playing baggo in front of the restaurant. The employees are extremely friendly. All around, it is a good experience, and I cannot wait to go back.

That was a great tuna melt! Wonderful flavor and texture. It comes with bacon and a friend pickle inside. All sandwiches are toasted on good, flakey bread. Pasta salad was a little small but delicious! I’d recommend the dirt cake for dessert.

I had my second trip to Bob’s over the weekend. My party was able to sit outside and enjoy a beautiful Saturday while enjoying our really good food. I ordered the Granny’s Hammy. The sandwich was turkey, ham, apple slices, goat cheese, honey mustard, and cranberry chutney. Sandwich was really really good. The bread was AWESOME. The salty ham paired well with the tangy honey mustard and the sweet cranberry. The apple slices proved a great crunch. If anything the turkey and goat cheese got lost in the other big flavors. But over all: really tasty. I also got cup of the Queso Pavo. It was turkey and cheese soup with some southwestern kick. It was good. VERY thick and cheesy with a hint of spicy. Again, the turkey got lost and probably wasn’t even necessary as it was a nearly non-existent flavor profile. They’ve got a great beer selection and the service was good as well. I’ll definitely return to Bob’s. P. S. Others have mentioned, parking can be an issue but shouldn’t keep ANYONE from trying out Bob’s.

Walked by tonight with my daughter, Emily, and our dog, Buddy, and was greeted by the owner, a very nice guy. They hope to open in late August for business(although they are taking part in the Downtown Winston Salem Bar Crawl on August 9th; they plan to set up tents in the parking lot and offer tours of the interior). In any event, the interior is about 3,700 sq feet if my memory serves from our brief conversation. They plan to have six beers on tap, a large selections of bottled beers and wines, as well as the subs. Can’t wait!
