We have been coming here for breakfast for years. Even though they are open for lunch and dinner, I never think of this place in the PM, something about the atmosphere seems more breakfasty. Tend to get the omelets, specifically the veggie omelet. This last time, I got it without cheese and added avocado. I tried to sub it, but was not allowed so paid the $ 2 extra for it, which seemed kinda steep, especially cause it didn’t seem that fresh and appeared previously refrigerated. My main issue was the omelet was just kinda boring, lacked many veggies, and the veg included was bland. Wish they used more thoughtful inclusions, vs. steamed broccoli and pimento. The pancakes here are on point. I’m not a pancake person, but can still appreciate their quality. The grits here are very good too. One of the few places in town that uses yummy stoneground grits. This place is a solid place for breakfast, but definitely seems to cater and specialize in the sweeter breakfast items. We will continue to go from time to time, but wish the egg dishes were a bit more creative and thoughtful.

Never had b-fast here, but the roast and chicken & dumplings are always great. Had several sandwiches and various soups over the years and have not been disappointed with any. The chocolate chocolate cake is quite good. I’ve had it many times. My husband and I usually share, and(because it is a bit rich) usually end up bringing about half of it home.

It was fine. I mean. It’s hard to mess up breakfast, right? We chose to come here today because they were open early and we were up and hungry. We normally get K & W on Sunday mornings because it’s cheap and it’s hard to mess up breakfast, right? Unilocal made me fixate on the sweet potato pancakes and when I couldn’t get them out of my mind, we headed down here. Turns out, they were just ok. They were slightly overcooked and came out cold, but the service was bad enough that even if we’d wanted to complain, she was nowhere to be seen. I was hungry enough that I was going to eat them and not say anything anyway. It was probably the deciding factor in our decision to not return though. Because there wasn’t anything really wrong with the food or service, there just wasn’t anything really remarkable either and it’s about a third of the price at K&W.

This place always seems packed and I’m not sure exactly why when there are some other great restaurants in Winston-Salem that are less busy. Seems to draw a big Wake Forest crowd whenever I’m in there. Food is OK, but portions are small for the price. I got a 3 egg omlet that was either 2 eggs or they used quail eggs or something. And a couple of small pancakes. And coffee that didn’t get refilled often because they were so busy. Rating here is an average of: 3 stars for the food quality. 2 starts for the value. 4 stars for the key lime pie. I favor the dessertery over the café.

Only been here twice and had the same thing both times, but I’ll be going back to try different menu items. Right now I’m hooked on the French Dip and Swiss Hoagie. Great sandwich, and is a great size for the price. Love the fries. I’ve seen some items on other diners plates that look great, so I’ll try and venture out to try them. I like the atmosphere; cozy and homey. Service has been good both times.

The Southwestern Omelet was amazing! It comes with three pancakes or hashbrowns on the side. An excellent breakfast with a bit of spice.

Good food with a wide variety. Service is great and even though it can get busy at times I’ve never had to wait. Their chicken salad is the best. Nice atmosphere but some items I think are a bit pricy.

Just moved to W-S and was looking for a new brunch spot. Found Midtown on Unilocal and after all the positive reviews we decided to try it. Very nice place with outdoor seating. We decided to sit outside by the fountain because we had our young kids with us and they were able to run around without disturbing others. We had the spinach and feta omlette, another omlette with salsa(I forget the name) and banana crunch pancakes. Oh my, everything was so good. I thought both omlettes were really tasty and full of flavor, but my husband only liked the one with salsa. All omlettes come with three pancakes; you can upgrade to any one of their specialty pancakes for an additional charge(around $ 2-$ 3), or you can choose another side: fruit, hash browns, etc. The pancakes were soft and had bananas in the batter. They were topped with more banana and pecan pieces. They were excellent. I would definitely have them again. The service was polite, but not over friendly. Definitely have found a new brunch spot!

For a «dessertery» they sure had a small selection of desserts. Got cheesecake to go and they forgot the bottom half of mine. Will never be back.

Despite going at the height of brunch time and the excellent brunch menu, not too crowded and no wait time. Atmosphere was very casual and diverse– everything from hungover undergrads to a grandmother teaching her grandkids card games. The breakfast menu was the highlight with 10+ specialty pancake options. I opted for banana granola pancakes, topped with their homemade granola. The food was excellent and for a very reasonable price.(Pancakes, side of fruit, and iced coffee totaled $ 10.) The service was occasionally a little slow, but the staff was very friendly.

This place is the best. Breakfast is quick, delicious, and there’s a wide variety to select from. Can’t go wrong with an omelette or the pancakes. Also… Their dessert is ridiculously yummy. Dinner is dece. All around great, friendly place to grab a solid meal. Highly recommend.

Went here for breakfast. Good service, great omelet(I got the spicy one). The pancakes were quite good as well. I felt like the prices were a little on the high side. There are not a lot of good breakfast joints in Winston-Salem from what I could find, but this is a good one. I would recommend giving it a try.

It’s my 2nd time coming here — group of 21 and 2 kids. I want to give more stars but the service was extremely slow… a little understaffed. I had the Big Buckaroo. Just a suggestion — cooking the onions, peppers, ham with the hash browns, top with two eggs and cheese would make this dish sing… and a little more salt/pepper. Otherwise, I would come back… the food is worth it.

Great service and delicious food. Midtown Café is great for any meal of the day. I recently went for breakfast and had the southwestern omelette, which was cooked to perfection. The hostess and servers were polite and efficient. Will definitely be visiting again.

We were a tad disappointed after all the hype we’ve heard about this place. The sweet potato pancakes WERE delicious. Everything else was okay. The omelette was decent but not fabulous. The chicken salad was dry. The vanilla latte was good but it had cinnamon on top and I didn’t love that. The staff was not very friendly. I wouldn’t make a special trip.

I’ve only been here twice but both times were awesome. The first time was a very busy Sunday afternoon– there was a wait but it seemed to be moving brisk fully. Fast table turnovers on busy days is a good sign! The section the two of us were seated in was completely full and it seemed only two waiters were assigned to it. They did a fantastic job. We ordered and received our food quickly and never had the water cups go below half. So naturally I wanted to come again. Service yesterday(Thursday 11am) was nothing short of my first experience but this time the restaurant had plenty of availability. I ordered the Georgia Peach Roll Up(s) and it was award winning! I’ve heard their sweet potato pancakes are amazing, so there will be a next time for me to try those. Love this restaurant all in all. Its great for anything Brunch.

Short Version: Clean establishment that serves non-unique food(that is prepared well) with good parking, good service, and good location. The Midtown Café and Bakery is a clean, medium sized diner located in a very pretty and clean shopping center close to the«Five Points» intersection here in Winston-Salem. It’s in the same plaza as Nawab, and an interesting mermaid fountain. There was plenty of parking on a weekend afternoon and also no wait to be seated in a nice clean booth. As for the food and service here, both are good. I came here with a group of six, they automatically split the check without us even asking(which in my opinion is a great thing), and were very patient with us when we couldn’t decide what we wanted. As for the food, I ordered the Blackjack Burger(I think that’s what it was called) with the spicy fries, and my wife ordered two hotcakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs. I wouldn’t call either of our two dishes as being unique at all, but were not the greasy messes I was expecting at a «diner». My burger was fairly plain and although I was warned about the spiciness of the fries, I found them also to be fairly plain. Because my overall experience was quite pleasant, I feel that the Midtown Café and Bakery deserves 4 stars, but don’t expect anything on the menu to wow you.

Great breakfast this morning! I ordered the Big Buckaroo. It was amazing! Two sunnyside up eggs, cheese, ham, and pimentos piled on top of hashbrowns. I substituted the side of pancakes for a side of fruit. If you go on a Saturday morning, be sure to ask for Ricky-he’s such a great waiter!

Midtown Café & Dessertery is always a top choice when it comes to breakfast and brunch! Today I ordered the Pumpkin Pancakes and they were delicious. The cinnamon-sugar syrup compliments the dish quite well. The pick-up service was prompt as usual. When I called this morning they said it be 15 minutes. Even though the restaurant was packed I was able to walk in and pick up my order.
