This 120 foot long bridge is located over Old Salem Road connecting The Old Salem Visitors Center with the historic grounds of the Old Salem Museum and Gardens. It is quite frankly one of the most amazing covered bridges I’ve ever had the privilege and honor of viewing. Extremely solid construction, like walking on a concrete or steel bridge and BONUS… it is encased in glass. The humpback design is spectacular and unique. A must see for covered bridge lovers. The Old Salem Heritage Bridge is a modern structure completed in December 1998 at a cost of $ 1,950,910. Yeah, you read that right… just shy of 2MILLIONDOLLARS!!! The design chosen for the covered bridge was the Burr-arch truss, which is likely the way the original Moravian settlers would have built it back in the 1800’s. NOTES: Moravians were once inhabitants of Moravia, the eastern part of the Czech Republic. FINALTHOUGHTS It was a Monday, so both the visitor center and the museum were closed, but the grounds and covered bridge were open for the public to walk through. We had a spectacular day and look forward to returning. Be sure to check out my review of the Historic Old Salem Village(coming soon).
