I love Thai food and pad see ew is my absolute favorite Thai dish. It was basically all I ate when I visited Thailand for a month a few years ago. I order it at every Thai restaurant I visit and how well they make it determines if I’ll be a repeat customer. So that’s exactly what I ordered on this visit, my usual pad see ew chicken with a Thai iced tea. Typically, pad see ew is prepared with flat, wide rice noodles, but this restaurant makes it with noodles that are generally used for phở(a Vietnamese soup). Aside from that, the sauce was a touch too sweet and my chicken was slightly overcooked. The dish wasn’t bad and it was definitely edible, but it just wasn’t on par with my expectations. I admit, I have fairly high standards for pad see ew so if you aren’t as critical as I am then Orchids Thai is worth a visit. Like most Thai restaurants in the area, they run a daily lunch special between 11am to 3pm. For $ 7.95 you get a single spring roll with your meal. If I had to rate this restaurant on their service only it would be 5 stars because the staff is amazing.

I love this Thai place!!! So flavorful. The portions are generous. Can’t get a better price deal. You will not be disappointed with the Pad Thai or the different curry dishes. My only negative is that there is literally never more than one table dining in when I go. It’s very odd because the food is great. Perhaps it’s the fact that the area has other restaurants or they don’t do a good job advertising but so long as they stay open I won’t complain. The peace and quiet is refreshing(and they have a great playlist and the owners are super sweet).

I’ve eaten at all of the Thai restaurants in the area but this one; it’s not convenient for my lunchtime. However, this week my wife was getting TJ’s Deli takeout and I needed a Thai fix, so thought to give it a shot. As others have mentioned, not a soul in the restaurant at around 7:30 Thursday. The lady was nice, food was ready, and I was out. I don’t say this very often, but my food(Spicy basil w/tofu… a standard Thai dish) was not edible. It didn’t smell good, and I threw it away. Don’t know if there was some bad bamboo shoots or something else but I didn’t eat it. I probably should have taken it back but it’s around 15mins away; instead today I got curious and read some of the reviews. This dish was unlike any Thai food I have had(eat it at least twice per month in W-S and Charlotte). If you love their food you REALLY need to try the others in the area.

I have visited this restaurant several times and the service is always good and the food is excellent. The best Thai restaurant that I have tried.

The first time my boyfriend and I visited Orchids Thai we were a little leery. Originally we planned to go get sushi, but with Kimono packed, we ventured elsewhere. Like other patrons have commented, there were only two other couples at 7pm on a Friday night. Regardless of how it looks, this place has excellent Thai food and you get a lot of bang for your buck. The portions are hugh and definately will feed you lunch the next day! The noodles alone are much better than Chang Thai in my opinion. We went there again last night and left just as happy as we did the first time! I hope more people will start frequenting this place because the staff is amazing and the food is great! I also love the ginger tea after your meal — it is delicious!

We love Orchids Thai! Everything we have ever ordered has been great and very authentic. The owner is wonderful and comes out to see how our food is every time. The food is always so fresh, so you still taste the flavor of the vegetables and the spice is always just right. Definitely recommend!

I ordered food to go one night, and when I walked in to get it, there was NOONE in the restaurant. Not a soul. It was 7pm on a Thursday. The little lady was sitting on a stool behind the cash register. She was very sweet. I paid for my food and left. I had ordered spring rolls and pad see eu. The 2 spring rolls were big, but had very little taste. I felt like I was chewing on a garden. The pad see eu was really very good! There was so much that I was able to have it for leftovers twice. The meal was good, and I hope this restaurant can stay in business.

Delicious thai food! I had thai basil noodles I think? Anyway the food was great. In Winston-Salem I’ve also eaten at the Basil Leaf which was fine but I wouldn’t bother going back, and I’ve eaten at Thai Sawatdee which was straight up horrible. Orchids Thai tastes very authentic(relatively speaking) and the people are very friendly. Love it!

My boyfriend and I tried this place the other night, and it was delicious. We were initially nervous because 1) it was empty when we walked in at dinnertime, and 2) the dumpling appetizer was awful. They were very fishy tasting. I ordered the pad thai(boring, I know) with fried tofu, and he ordered a red curry with beef. The entrees were fantastic, and the portions were huge, so it gives you leftovers for days. I’ve heard there are many excellent Thai places in W-S, but I will keep this one in the rotation!

I’m so glad this place is right down the street from me, because I was so happy with the dishes we got when we called in for takeout recently. They don’t deliver, but just call in an order and they’ll have it ready in a jiffy. Pad Thai is my favorite, and theirs was great, with an authentic tamarind sauce and a generous portion. We also mixed it up with the Massaman chicken curry, with coconut milk, onion, potatoes, and peanuts. Yum! Nice mix of subtly sweetness and savory flavors. And there was plenty of food for the two of us to get two meals out of our order! I’ll definitely be back.

Truthfully, I’m not a Thai food person but my wife loves it so I indulge from time to time. I ordered take out because I don’t think they deliver. I got the Pad Thai with shrimp and the Massaman(curry) with chicken. They were surprisingly good. I wish there were more shrimp in the dish but the sauce was great on the Pad Thai. The peanuts were served on the side which is much better than serving a peanut sauce. The curry was better than any curry dish I’ve had. There were degrees of spice and I chose the spiciest — I wasn’t disappointed. I didn’t need to add sriracha. Overall, I don’t brag about Thai food but I will definitely make this place my go-to Thai restaurant.

This is my usual stop-by restaurant on the way home from work. Good quality, big portion and the owner is very nice too. The spicy noodle is a little chewy but recommend spicy basil, sweet roast chili and thai fried rice, which are really good.

Without a doubt, the best Thai restaurant in town, even without sushi. Best curry duck I’ve ever had, along with the best pad Thai and phở I’ve had since moving to Winston.

They used to serve good carry out Thai food all day long and my husband and I were loyal patrons. However the quality is not consistent, the flavor profiles have deteriorated, and the portions have decreased. This business is no longer worth patronizing. Go to Cha Da Thai instead.

I love Thai food, and this place is so yummy and affordable!!! We don’t get to eat Thai food often because it’s so expensive at most places in town, so I’m so excited to find a really great Thai place that fits my budget!!! Everything was so fresh and full of flavor and they gave us complimentary Ginger tea at the end of our meal to cleanse our pallets!!! I feel great after a healty meal and great service and we will be back again soon!!!

This is one of the most authentic places I’ve been to outside of Thailand and LA! Glad to see Orchids has become a staple for Thais living in the area. Disclaimer: I’m Thai, so I’m very discerning when it comes to Thai food, or as we call it back home… food. Given that great Thai food is hard to find, even in Bangkok where the best meals can only be had at hole-in-the-wall places or in the streets, Orchids Thai is a godsend. The first time I walked in I fully expected the numbing mediocrity that defines Winston-Salem’s ubiquitous faux Asian restaurants, but the food actually reminded me of the boxed lunches I used to get from street hawkers in Bangkok! You know a Thai place is legit when they bring you«Nam Plaa Prik» or chopped chili pepper in fish sauce condiment without having to ask. The large menu here makes eating family style a very satisfying experience. Start with one or two appetizers, then order a few stir-fry entrees and a soup(the Tom Yum Goong hot pot is an explosion of flavors!) to share. If you’re feeling adventurous you can request a «Thai-style» version of whatever you’re getting. What emerges from the kitchen may upend your idea of how the dish is supposed to taste, but you will be getting the real deal and not flavorless meat covered in premixed sweet brown sauce many places pass for Thai food. I’m looking at you, Downtown Thai et al. The owners are very accommodating whenever I order outside the menu and have even perfected my favorite dish(garlic pork stir fry). I’ve never had less than stellar service here. While this place isn’t the cheapest and presentation is somewhat homely, it’s very clean and the food is as real as it gets. I do not know the owners personally nor have they asked me for a review, but I am more than happy to carve out a few minutes to let people know what an outstanding place this is. Because of its location Orchids Thai hasn’t caught on yet, but in a sea of dismal Asian restaurants I really want them to make it! Edit: Now that I’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu, here’s a list of dishes worthy of three Michelin stars: Curry rolls Basil fried rice Garlic pork stir fry Tom Yum with shrimp Beef phở(seasonal, I think) Of course almost everything else is great too!

I have eaten here at least a dozen times and have had a great experience every time. The family that runs it is very friendly and accommodating, especially of my desire to have food that is spicy but not too spicy. They have hit the mark every time. I always have the fresh spring rolls or dumplings, and I have tried the pad thai, nam prik pow, massaman and panang curry, pad see eu, pad prik pow, fried rice, and other dishes. Always have a tough time choosing from between so many good dishes. For dessert, when I have room, its the rice pudding, which is a very small portion of freshly made hot pudding. I would not say Orchids Thai is better than Thai Sawatdee or Cha Da Thai, but I would go here any time over Downtown Thai. My only concern is that in all the times I have eaten here there have never been more than a handful of other people dining. What am I missing? It kills me to drive past a packed Kimono Japanese restaurant with its Americanized teriyaki chicken with white sauce to get to an empty Orchids Thai. Come on Winston-Salem! Support this restaurant.

I will have to eat here another time before I can really give it a good review. Not a lot of people in the restaurant, my daughter has been there before but she said it was like that when she went too. We ordered pad thai and panang curry. The chicken was a little bit questionable as to whether it was chicken or not. It was okay with the pad thai noodles but in the curry not so much. For 25 dollars I don’t know necessarily that I got my money’s worth. But the couple that runs the place seem like very nice people and I hope they have a lot of success.
