I had a pair of LL Bean boots that were given to me and the back was cut on the ankle collar of the shoe, then it ripped on the seam. I had taken the shoes to a shoe repair business in Clemmons and the man told me he could not fix them. I brought my shoes to Phelps on Trenwest Dr. and the guy said he could repair them. He wasn’t sure if they would look exactly brand new, but he said he could fix them. THEYCAMEOUTGREAT!!! It cost me $ 11.25 and they look fantastic! AND I brought them on a Wednesday at lunch time and they were fixed by Friday. I would bring shoes back to Phelps for a quality repair!

Mr Phelps is gone. The new people suck. The sooner they are out of business, the better. Don’t go there!

For ten years I have relied on Phelps to care for my large collection of vintage shoes. Recently the business was taken over by an Asian couple who speak very little English and a surly middle aged Caucasian man. I don’t really care about customer service, but the last time I took a pair of shoes there they came back completely wrong. It was a simple job that the shop had done for me a dozen times before. I returned them to be corrected. The white guy reluctantly agreed to fix the job, kept the shoes for a week, but did nothing. When I picked the shoes up the second time he told me I was wrong and the job was correct. Rude, incompetent and dishonest. You should probably avoid them.

I have been a customer for years and always very satisfied. It seems the ownership may have changed recently. A new middle-aged, dark hair gentleman has been manning the counter the last few months. In the span of 5 minutes I was in line, he offended the woman in front of me and then told me he couldn’t polish my shoes quickly as they were closing in 35 minutes. «it’s closing time» was the answer I got. Seemed to want to be anywhere but at the store. Very pooooor customer service!!! Thought he was there for shoe care… I guess not. Needless to say I put the $ 40 worth of other items I was planning to buy back on the shelf and will never go back again. A shame… used to be great.

Great work. Second hand shoes too. Rare to find their level of skill.

I had the heels of my boots replaced here. There was no rush on my side for getting them fixed, but he still got the repairs done within two days. I also paid to get them polished. The boots looked nice when I received them back. In the store, there is a wall of men’s leather shoes that were not purchased from department stores and now made it here for last call. I didn’t look too closely but perhaps some men can find a nice pair of work shoes at a reasonable price here. The gentlemen who helped me were both very courteous and friendly. I look forward to updating this review after I have used their services a few more times.

I cannot recommend this place enough. The owner explains to you every part of the process and tips on keeping your shoes in good condition. I got 2 pairs of boots fixed(new soles and heels) and he throws in a shine for free. It was about $ 80 to get both boots fixed, but it was well worth it. I just got them back and they look like brand new shoes!

This is the best place in Winston to get shoe care. If it is re-capping a shoe or just a shine — Phelps is the best. Good price Good quality Good customer service.
