Plain, clean, cheap, friendly and tasty. A simple review for a simple dinner. Keep in mind that I don’t rate a place like this by the same standards as, say, Fabian’s; it is what it is – and if you like mom & pop greasy spoon diners, you’ll probably like this one.

It’s sad to say that there’s not much to brag about here. The portions are small and most of the food is lacking flavor. Breakfast is okay and the prices are low but I wish they had something on the menu that was a signature item. Nothing tastes like it’s made from scratch, some things might be but they aren’t that great.

You can’t beat this place. The food is super tasty, and AMAZINGLYCHEAP, the service is great, and the folks who dine there are just as much a fixture as the furniture itself. I really like their grits and pancakes. Last week I enjoyed biscuits and gravy. Really, you can’t go wrong with this place. FYI– cash only. But seriously, it is the best breakfast deal in Winston Salem.

Well… it’s okay. The waitress was super nice, even though we could tell it’s a place for«regulars». I ordered a breakfast sandwich with biscuits and gravy on the side. Given the choice between white and brown gravy, I took the white(on the waitresses recommendation). On second pass, I’d try the brown next time, as the white was not that great. Biscuits were fine, nothing extraordinary. Coffee was exactly as you’d expect — ‘diner-like quality’. I’d stop by again, but probably not go out of my way. Perfectly fine if you live nearby and want a dirt cheap breakfast.

Great home cooking, fast service, and exactly what you would expect from a ‘home cooking’ restaurant. Nice job!

When I walked into The Diner I felt like I got the stink eye from some customers and staff as a «first timer.» This is apparently a place for regulars but I’m not sure if I will return enough/ever to get to that point. We were told to sit anywhere we like. The waitress came over and asked us if we knew what we wanted. We said that we needed more time and would like to see the menu(imagine that). The breakfast options were pretty standard. I ordered biscuits with gravy with patty sausage and hash browns. The biscuits were soft but the gravy lacked flavor. I cut up my sausage and mixed it in with the gravy to get some flavor. The hash browns on the other hand were well seasoned and tasty. I had an individual biscuit and it was very good. Big and soft and flavorful. Our waitress took good care of us and was friendly. The interior is very very plain and not especially appealing but it is clean. The woman at the register when I paid could have cared less about me or the money I was spending at her establishment. IF, I return to The Diner, I will use the drive thru window. But I definitely did not have a good first experience.
