While visiting Orlando, I stopped by this location as a good spot for sushi. I’m between a 3 and a 4 but will give the benefit of a doubt of a 4. I’m sort of spoiled by my local sushi offering in Sterling Virginia. While here, I ordered the same thing I order anywhere, Chicken Teriyaki. It was of basic offering and was pretty good. The white rice was nice and sticky. The staff was friendly and helpful. My 7 month old made a mess with white rice and the staff was more than willing to help clean up the mess(and the baby!) which put this over to the 4 star side for service for me. It had a nice atmosphere. I would expect anything spectacular, but is most worth the visit and if I’m ever back that way, I’d likely stop by in again for a good meal. Menu had a very large offering of sushi(much more selection than I’ve seen elsewhere) but a little expensive compared to my normal spot in Va.

I used to LOVE gizmo’s, but I must say it’s gone down hill the last few years… The music has gotten atrocious and the ambiance(spelling is an issue today) has become confused. Is this a Sushi restaurant or is it a shitty nightclub? The menu is great and the rolls and don fantastic, but the prices have gone up as the quality of the place goes down.

Went to Gizmo for some sushi with my sister and fiancé. They had a happy hour special of $ 3 hand rolls(larger cone-shaped roll). I think it is Monday-Friday 5pm-630pm. My sister had miso soup, Spicy tuna hand roll and vegetarian roll. She liked the miso and vegetarian roll, but the hand roll was«too seaweedy» for her. My fiancé had miso soup as well, spicy tuna maki roll and the hurricaine hand roll. She also enjoyed the miso, and rest of her food was very good. I had 5 different hand rolls, because they were $ 3 each. The munch man was the best, followed by the dynamite, spicy tuna, hydrogen bomb, and hurricaine, in order of how much I liked them. They were all very good though and quite filling. The restaraunt was empty for the duration of our meal, and the service was very good. We also enjoyed the salt-water fish tank next to our table. All in all a nice sushi joint.

Great sushi! More sushi-fusion than traditional, but I’ve eaten sushi all over the world and I enjoy every meal I’ve had at Gizmo. Nicely prepared sushi, small cozy restaurant, local artist work on display, exotic fish tanks, owner prepares to order, family owned, and dubstep DJ on friday nights for special«Sushi-step» mid evening. I have never had any trouble with service, even when it is a busy night there. Food is prepared to order, and sushi restaurants always take a little longer to serve. It is very close to Full Sail, not far from UCF, and attracts a college crowd, but not exclusively. I have gotten take-out from the sushi bar, pretty quickly on my way to work.

The atmosphere that they are trying to portray is young and hip. I feel they fall short of their goal. With room for no more than maybe 50 patrons, they have a live DJ paying pretty good dance or club music, way to loud for such a small place. I am starting out with the Miso soup(Japanese bean paste), as an appetizer and it is super salty. Not a Good start. I ordered a Phoenix Roll(Fried Lobster, Cream Cheese, Avocado, Shrimp on top w/hot Eel Sauce) and a Spiderman Roll(Soft Shell Krab, Cucumbers, Avocado, Masago, Eel Sauce) the fried lobster is too hard the avocados look way expired and old. I did not see nor taste any cucumbers and there is hardly any Eel sauce on either one of the rolls. The food generally looks old and sloppily put together. They are out of Asa hi beer, what a shame. My wait time is about 30 min since I placed my order until it was served to me. Employees are friendly. In conclusion, this was less than a thrilling experience, so I would not recommend this restaurant.

Gizmo has been going down hill. I work close by so I eat here a lot. I was sad to see the lunch menu gone. But on top of that, today’s service was less than friendly. My spoon with my miso soup smelled strongly of bleach so I asked my waitress for another. She sighed at me and when she came back she exclaimed that all the spoons smelled like that. I will be going to another sushi place from now on.

So it turns out I like sushi. This place is super casual. I am intimidated about sushi places because I don’t understand the ordering protocol. I let my friends order for me. It was a little crowded when we were there so service was slow and the food took a while to come out. We had two waitresses. The one was insistent on refilling our water, which is preferable to not having enough but it got annoying at the end. I would suspect this isn’t the best sushi around but it is reasonable priced(with the exception of a few things, like wine).

Had dinner at Gizmo Sushi last night. Thurs night at 7pm and there was only 1 other table occupied. Here’s my take: 1) Service: overall good but then with only 1 other table to wait on, I would have expected it to be good. Food was brought out fast and order was delivered with no errors. However they did keep coming around to «clear plates» while my dinner companion and I were in deep conversation which was annoying to say the least. 2) Sushi: Excellent — very fresh and beautiful presentation. 3) Price: Not Good — The churasey(sashimi served over a bowl of rice) was $ 23.95 which is pricey compared to other sushi restaurants. Large hot sake at $ 4.50 is a good deal though. 4) Ambience: OK — it’s in a strip mall and difficult to see from the road. We passed it and had to back-track to get to it. Seems a bit dirty and dusty. On the other hand, having a salt-water fishtank right next to our table was cool. Bottom line — Would I go back? Yes — but ONLY with a groupon :)

some very inventive rolls and happy hour prices are OK. The atmosphere is young and fun but I am never a fan of minced tuna.

Yo, this place sucks! I kinda thought it was cool and a hip joint at first as I frequent A comic shop next door. I’ve been wanting to try this place out for awhile now as I love the hell outta sushi… I guess my gut has been telling me not to, I should’ve listened to my gut. So I went with my girlfriend and friend. I had Dynamite tuna, and that was mediocre… actually probably the worst sushi I’ve ever had. Tuna looked mangled, the rolls looked sloppy… and it didn’t look alive… I mean, my sushi looked liked decay has been setting in. I had to soak my sushi in mad wasabi and soysauce… ya know! My girlfriend had a non-sushi plate, it was a grilled chicken teriyaki with rice. It had no veggies, just cut up chicken thrown on top trash looking lettuce with generic teriyaki sauce that every wanna-be sushi chain seems to use. My friend had the«Korean bbq» or «Bulgogi», why a Korean dish in a Japanese restaurant? I don’t know, perhaps the; «ohhh they all look alike, so they all must eat the same crap.» No, but crap, yes. My friend who will eat anything was baffled with the lack of flavor this had, I had to try a piece and it was seriously bitting into leather. Also it had no flavor, did I mention that already? Well I’ll say it again… it had and will have absolutely NOFLAVOR or TASTE! We both looked at eachother and asked, did they forget the korean bbq sauce or something. We asked the waitress about it and she said its been seasoned, but she did offer us some sauce, we accepted but you’re not going to believe this. Guess what sauce she brought back out to give my friend to put on his bulgogi??? the same crap ass teriyaki sauce they used on my girlfriends chicken!!! Seriously?

I’ve been coming to Gizmo for years and one of my favorite things about it is the consistently good sushi. the Muchman is an all-time favorite, so is the Kentucky with it’s tender bits of tempura chicken inside. They have a specials board which rotates regularily with new sushi rolls and other items. I love that they keep it fresh and keep adding to the already huge seleciton of rolls.

Me and my husband used to come here almost every week. We’ve tried to slow down eating out, but love coming here every other month. The prices are reasonable. My recommendations for rolls are the Orange Blossom and Rasta Maki. Top appetizers are What the Eel, Yaginasu and Age Dashi Tofu. This is a great place for sushi. Friday nights and the weekend can be a little slow getting your order.

This place is ok. I come here for lunch from time to time, but I hardly ever get the sushi(it is ok, but not great). On the other hand, the unagi bento box, or one of the other bento boxes for lunch are quite nice and fit the bill well. I would not go here for dinner, but then again, I never have, so I cannot comment on dinner(maybe its great, but I imagine basically the same quality as lunch, which is average).

Eh. The price is good, and the sushi is decent enough if you are just wanting something quick and affordable. The main problem I have with this place is the service. Not a fan.

This place is a good place to grab some quick sushi with friends. It’s definitely good for college students(I think the atmosphere is kind of aimed towards Full Sail and UCF students), and it’s not too pricey. The sushi is good for the price you pay. I wasn’t super impressed with the Volcano roll, but the other rolls have all been pretty good. I would recommend the sushi rolls over their other non-sushi dishes. Service has always been fast and friendly for me. I think they’ve hired new employees since a lot of the reviews on bad service have been written because I’ve never had a problem with their service. Overall a good, fun place to sit down and eat some sushi

I’m not sure why others have had issues. Here’s my experiences and observations. I sit at the bar. a) the chef washes his hands between making each and every dish. b) the kitchen at least up front is clean and well organised. c) service is always fast. d) he has rolls with kimchee and natto, amoung other things; and you can’t get those at any other sushi place. I love this place and go all the time for good fresh, reasonably priced sushi.

I can’t believe anyone would even think of calling this a good place for sushi. Those who like Gizmo’s Sushi must have never been to a good, authentic sushi place. Let me begin with the service. A village somewhere is missing an idiot, because he was serving at Gizmo’s. This person could not speak English well enough to even understand our order. We waited an inordinate amount of time for our food, and when it came it wasn’t even in the right order. I ordered a tempura dinner which came with soup and salad but the tempura dinner came first and I had to remind the server twice that I was supposed to get soup and salad, which he then went and got. Then I had to ask another server for chopsticks, plates and soy sauce dishes. They didn’t offer to bring my 8 year old a fork to eat with, but at least one came in the salad, so he didn’t have to eat with his fingers. The food was substandard even by the most generous of standards. The tempura came out cold and greasy and there was very little there for the price. The salad was nothing more than iceburg lettice with watery ginger dressing. The Miso soup was passable. The California roll was ok, but I’ve had better from Publix’s seafood counter. The spicy tuna roll was so spicy that my husband couldn’t even finish it, and he usually eats things that make fire come out of his ears. Overall, I would say that this is one of the worst meals I’ve ever had in my life and I will NEVER return to Gizmo’s Sushi.

I’ve passed by this place a few times — typically when I’m going to the diner in the same mall or to the comic shop. So one night we decided to give it a whirl. OK here’s the skinny on our experience – (1) Sushi wasn’t so great. In fact, it didn’t taste all that fresh compared to other joints I’ve been to in Orlando. (2) Price seemed higher than others — especially considering portion size. (3) Service. Oh where to begin. In short, it blew. I specifically ordered nigiri and the waitress brought me sashimi — which doubled my bill. We asked for drink refills, which never came. We asked for chili for some soup we ordered, also never came. (4) I would argue whether or not the chef is authentically trained or not. Compared to other places, the offerings were uncreative. Gizmo needs some re-tooling. And we decided we won’t be going back.

Just stopped in there to get some sushi and I tried one of their tuna rolls to see how it tasted. The roll itself was good, rolled small and thin like it should be. The only gripe I have is why does the fish need to be cut so thin? I mean, I’m not ordering a Reuben sandwich where I want the meat to be so thin I can see through time. I want to to be nice and think like a tuna roll should be. Where’s my fish, damn it?! If I wanted rice I would have just asked for a bowl of it. Other than the fish robbery, the roll tasted good, and since it’s the only place nearby, I’ll have to deal.

Very good sushi I used to go a lot when it was called something else and the awesome chef Sato was there. He is no longer there and the name has changed but I can’t imagine the food has.
