Today was my first and my last visit to Max and Marley. I found the items to be quality, somewhat fair to pricey, neatly displayed. As we entered the shop the store owner’s mother and sister were«minding the store». They sat eating out of large Styrofoam containers. Food that was quite strong and undesirable in smell. The shop is no larger than a walk in closet. I can excuse this, but – The owner’s mother was curt, rude, passive aggressive and inpatient, the straw that broke my back. There were items that my daughter and I liked and would’ve have purchased. But, there is no way we would praise bad and ungrateful behavior.

I have to agree with one of the other reviewers about being reluctant to tell anyone about this store because it is that wonderful! Max and Marley is a treasure of a kids clothing resale store. You can’t walk in expecting to get bargains in the sense of a common resale store because Max & Marley only sells the very high end products(think Matilda Jane, Tea Collection, Lily Pulitzer, Crewcuts, Misha Lulu, Polo, Ralph Lauren, Gucci, etc.). These are the same things you’ll find in the boutique children’s stores. But, because its resale, you’ll definitely get some bargains. The owner, Kristin, buys only the best brands and best quality so you know you are buying quality. My only complaint is that its small and I wish there was a bigger selection, but that’s not enough to stop me from giving it a 5-star rating.

I love Max & Marley. It’s in a little alley behind Sassafras Sweet Shoppe, off of Park Ave. It is high end consignment, so it is not as cheap as some of the other well-known children consignment stores in the area. There are some GAP pieces but for the most part, it is boutique level items. I have sold and bought clothing there. The owner, Kristin, is usually there or her mother. They are both super sweet. They carry lines like Crew Cuts, Juicy, Polo, Saltwater, Misha Lulu, awesome European brands you haven’t seen before, handmade items, and other brands that I typically only see online or in bigger cities. So yes, you might still pay $ 15-$ 20 for a dress there but that dress probably cost $ 85 retail. You do not have to dig — everything is well-displayed and very well curated.

I had to write a review when I read the glowing review above. This store, while cute and pretty, is very small and very expensive. It’s basically one small room with clothes on three walls. There was a new GAP onesie for $ 10…you can you to GAP on Park Avenue and get better stuff for cheaper during one of their frequent sales. The boys’ things are all the useless smocked clothes your husband doesn’t want you to dress your boy in. The girls clothes are lovely, but again, not cheap. The owner is very nice, but she is going to have to adjust her prices if she wants more business from value seeking moms like me.

I haven’t written a review in more than a year and I’m reluctant to let the secret out about this store. On the other hand, I always like to see businesses like this succeed, so I guess I’lI just have to risk it! I have my mom to thank for alerting me to the existence of Max and Marley. It is tucked away off of Morse Blvd., and the fact that it’s not right on Park Ave. or Morse is a bonus if you ask me, because it offers more leisurely browsing and personal attention. Max and Marley is a small, well-edited consignment store for babies and kids. Unlike some of the larger, more well-known childrens’ consignment stores(no need to name names), Max and Marley showcases its items in an organized, non-cluttered fashion that is in no way stressful. Don’t get me wrong, that other store serves a need when you want to get a bunch of play clothes/everyday clothes on the cheap. But this store is different. The clothes are brand-name, of excellent quality, clean and pressed and many look barely used at all. If you are looking for a special occasion, hand smocked, seasonal or holiday-themed outfit, Max and Marley should be your first stop. The owner, Kristin, is sweet as can be and remembered my baby from when my mother visited the store. She obviously takes great care in selecting what she sells; I had a difficult time choosing a self-budgeted two outfits for my daughter and one for a friend’s son(the store offers a broad range of outfits for both girls and boys). I’m so thrilled to know there’s a great resource for beautiful, barely used baby and kids’ clothes right in Winter Park. This store a gem!
