We enjoy a good club sandwich and wondered how JW’s would measure up when we saw club sandwiches on their menu. Both my husband and I ordered the turkey club(takeout) and were thrilled to find a restaurant close to home that knows what an adult club sandwich should be! The bread was large enough to be cut into the signature quarter sections, secured with a frilly toothpick. The bread was evenly and thoroughly toasted. The ingredients(turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo) were evenly proportioned so that we had no difficulty eating it. AND the fries weren’t the skinny toothpicks usually found with take-out(fast-food) venues, but substantial fries(¼″ thick), nicely seasoned. The fries were an accent to the sandwich, not an overpowering ‘star’. This is a restaurant that pays attention to detail, including a sandwich on a take-out menu, so it’s very likely that any other selection at one of their tables, or yours, will not disappoint!

The sit-in restaurant isn’t worth it, 1 star. They still have peasans old pizza for take out I give that 4 stars. Expect thin crust expensive pizza in the sit down restaurant.

I am happy this place is in Wintrhop. Was not a fan of Pasan which was the place it replaced. The bartenders make really good mix drinks and recently I had the pizza. The pizza is very good. The sauce is full of flavor, the dough was light and airy(not thin crust) but still very favorable. You can taste the brick oven it it. All the ingredients were fresh. Props to them for using fresh mushrooms. Hate when I order a pizza with mushrooms and they put can mushrooms on it. Also love their raw oyster Monday deals. A dollar an oyster. All the oyster tasted fresh and delicious. All in all Winthrop needed a high end place with great mixiologists and JW fills this void.

On December 12, 2015, I had been flying all day, and I needed some food. Under these circumstances, I might be more inclined to find, out of desperation, that the food I’m eating is actually more awesome than it truly is, in reality. But I did not, gentle reader, find that to be the case — or perhaps I am mistaken, and my two-star review should truly be far lower. Here is what I experienced. I ordered fried mozzarella, iced tea, Caesar salad with salmon and chicken, a buffalo chicken calzone, and the chicken-broccoli ziti. The salad was wilted, the fried mozzarella was greasy, the calzone was superbly greasy, and the ziti was okay. The bottled ice tea was cold and I enjoyed that very much. This bag of food cost over a hundred dollars. Our order took a unusually long time to arrive(over an hour) and my spouse and I, sharing everything, both got sick with the runs the next day. Truly, this is the kind of information that I am loath to share, as it borders on too much information. However, if you don’t enjoy a long wait for overpriced, ho-hum food that, twelve hours after you eat it, is followed by gastrointestinal upset, maybe you shouldn’t order from JW’s.

Went last night for the second time ! Here goes PRO’s Food is high quality and very good Servers were great /attentive Prices of apps and food were appropriate.
Con’s $ 5.50 for domestic beer? No beer specials We realize it’s a restaurant but also think if your going to draw in the average joe there should be be a more appropriate price point on regular«Joe«beer or at least a daily special. There are specials on take away pizza and apps, dinners, oysters, so… We love coming to Winthrop and über to Winthrop at least 2 times a month and do Enjoy the lively atmosphere of this place.

Being Local to this place we’ve heard both pro & con reviews from other locals and decided to see for ourselves… We started with a Fried Calamari Appetizer, the batter was light which allowed for the taste of the Calamari to come through, I hate it when places use a heavy batter spoils the dish/my only complaint was there were 0 tentacles which are my favorite part… spoiler alert, Squid have tentacles. I ordered a «Dirty Martini», have to say it was the 1st time I’ve had a Martini that the ice was not strained, mentioned it to my server and received a lame excuse as to how the drink is shaken… still can’t figure that one but 2nd drink was the same… refresher course in order behind bar/customer wants no ice in drink, you remove ice with strainer… easy. We ordered, the wife had«Seafood Pomodoro» and loved it, just wished it came on «angel hair» pasta opposed to linguini. I’m sure if we had asked they would have made the change… I ordered the«Sirloin au poirve», they couldn’t have cooked it better… dead on Our Take, defiantly a «go to» place in Winthrop and worth the drive from surrounding towns… we’ll be back

Love this restaurant! The best in Winthrop. Great for just drinks and appetizers or for full dinners. Very relaxing and they never rush you out. Was there last night and was lucky to have Felipe as our waiter. He took very good care of us and made a couple of good recommendations. Much improved since they first opened. Worth a second try. Food is excellent. Presentation is good and the menu has something for everyone.

Revising my review upward, because I do keep going back to JW’s for the food. And they went above and beyond to accommodate their last SNAFU. Overall, the food from JW’s is great. Especially when it comes to pizza and subs. The Four Cheese pizza is excellent. For subs, my favorites are the Neopolitan and Chicken Napoli. Also, the restaurant probably has the most upscale and modern décor in all of Winthrop. It’s nice having such a place for out of town visitors, etc. However, I have had too many issues with my limited take out and delivery experience. I once received a cold pizza delivered 1 hour and 15 minutes after the initial order. Also, I sat in the take out area for a cold sub to be made for about 30 minutes, with the hot food already bagged and getting cold(they refunded this order). Overall, we’ve ordered from there about 6 times, and 2 have been poor experiences from the kitchen to food-in-hand. I hope they are able to figure our their kitchen and delivery processes, since I otherwise really like this place.

I must say the food here is absolutely amazing. I’ve only eaten here twice but I really do recommend it. The staff is very friendly. I mean, you recognize people from school and just know them anyway it being such a small town but my waiter was very nice. I told him that I had to have something gluten free and he had the best fish dish come out. It honestly was to die for. It was so fresh, with fresh veggies and an incredible sauce coating the dish. The food 15 out of 10. The staff as far as I’ve experienced 20 out of 10 so if your looking for good food, friendly staff and a nice ambiance, I highly recommend JWs. :)

Nicely decorated restaurant in Winthrop. Lots of places in Winthrop are tiny hole in the wall kind of places, but this place is a decent size and has a nice full bar. The food is just medicore here. I tried the bruschetta, chicken marsala, and the burger. Everything was just average. I wouldn’t say this is authentic italian food and the prices are pretty high. If you’re looking for some good authentic italian drive 5 minutes down the road to Antique Table. I probably won’t be coming back here unless the prices change.

A quick look at my Unilocal history and you can see that I am not an avid reviewer. In fact I have only reviewed two places, both in Winthrop and both outstanding restaurants. I have lived in Winthrop for about 6 years and have seen some welcomed growth in the restaurant scene. Places like Antique Table and Blackstrap have been great additions, while other establishments like La Siesta and Osaka Lucky Garden have seen welcomed improvements. Unfortunately, a little less than one year ago, our town also lost a long-time favorite of mine… Paesan’s. I prefaced my review of JW’s with all that because I feel it helps one understand my disappointment with JW’s. So, I don’t know all the details about how Paesans became JW’s, but according the Paesan’s website(which is still running), it sounds like it’s the same ownership. Anyways, when my girlfriend and I first went to JW’s last January, we were at first impressed by the scenery. The restaurant looks awesome and was a great environment for us to relax and watch the Pats game. Unfortunately, our food was just bland. The service was fine and the prices were reasonable, but it was just very disappointing given that Paesan’s had terrific food. Fast-forward to the present. I had convinced my girlfriend to give this place another try, thinking that they might have worked out the kinks. I wish I hadn’t. We decided to get delivery, ordering the buffalo wings, a chicken Caesar salad and a Buffalo chicken flatbread. The delivery was quick, I’ll give them that, but there were a few errors. No Caesar dressing, no blue cheese and the flatbread was a regular cheese. So basically all three things we ordered were sent incorrectly. I called them up and they were apologetic and agreed to send me the meal again. I would give them credit for their agreement to replace the whole meal, but once again, the food was just bland beyond belief. Both the wings and the flatbread had the texture and taste of frozen meals you could buy at the convenience store. My girlfriend said the salad was ok, but then again it’s a Caesar salad. Having worked in restaurants previously, I hesitated writing a negative Unilocal review. But I am just baffled by the fact that Paesan’s shut their doors to re-emerge as this place.

Took a second shot at this place. I am local and know what delicious Italian food is. First go round was a disaster, but they just opened. Months have passed and«let’s order dinner here», give em a second chance now that they are established. I hate to say that it was an enormous disappointment. The staff were sweet to me at least. Linguini clams with red sauce. 16 $. Four clams, one unopened, one completely shattered into the food. The linguini was in a solid lump that could barely be separated.(learn how to drop and drain pasta if you’re going to serve it). Chicken parm 12 $. Red sauce too acidic, and flavorless, also lacking depth. Perhaps made too quickly not allowing for proper flavor development.(this could be my palate). The chicken though well pounded was tough. The ½ cup fusilli pasta, dropped into the container with ¼ cup pasta water. Nice and wet chicken breading. Rice ball bites(arancini) 6 $. Decent flavor, too small to get the true arancini experience. I only live a few blocks away but will simply just drive by next time. No thirdsies for this place. Bummer too, because the opportunity for a new great place has again fallen short. This should have stayed Paesans, at least they know to put bread in to sop up the sauce even if it was watery and gross, I expect the bread damn it. Don’t waste your time. If you don’t want to leave town try one of the others, we have three more at least. Finally Bummertastic.

Went there last night because I was craving eggplant parmagiana. Since there are so few places in Winthrop to get food from, I decided to try out this place. I used to like the eggplant parmagiana back when it was Paesans, but did not like this eggplant parm at all. There was waaaay too much ricotta cheese stuffed inside the eggplant. Couldn’t even taste eggplant at all. I thought maybe they gave me the wrong item, but there was little traces of eggplant in there. They should call it ricotta parmesean, not eggplant parm. I do have to say that the serving size is good for the price(if you look on Unilocal as of today, price listed says 15 $ but ended up paying 11 $ and some change.) There would have been plenty of leftovers if I didn’t throw it out due to the overpowering ricotta cheese. Unfortunately do to the poor taste of this dish, I would be very very hesitant of going back there for anything. I live closer to D’Parma’s, Rosettis, ect, should have went to one of those places instead of being daring and trying someplace new.

I live around the corner and have been here on a few different occasion. We came here for dinner one night. I got the chicken napoli and my boyfriend got the steak. The portions are HUGE and cooked to perfection. We came another night for just drinks and apps and the server was amazing. After we left, we saw him around the corner at another location after his shift and he bought us a drink. Everyone is so friendly and the food is so good. We can’t wait to try their brunch!

My fiancé and I were scared off from JW’s by the negative reviews. However, we took my father there last night for $ 1 oysters and bar bites Monday special. I don’t eat oysters, but at $ 1 each the other devoured them. The bar bites were also good, and you can’t beat $ 1 per serving(one serving was one pulled pork slider, one shrimp skewer, 4 mini arancini balls, or 4 chicken terriyaki wings). We got 10 orders of bar bites, which was plenty for a full meal for the 3 of us. The wings were especially good– great sauce, not too sweet, and meaty wings. The décor was nice and service was great– our waiter was quick and funny. We will definitely go back, at least on Mondays :-)

Unimpressive, mediocre, bland food which made us sick to our stomachs. I gave it 2 stars instead of one for the menu. Great ideas but very poor execution.

I was so excited about JWs opening in Winthrop but have had a couple disappointing visits. They have a great menu but each time my order has come out completely wrong. One time the fusilli was cold, not even room temperature, and our server never checked in on how the food was so there was never an opportunity to get what I wanted and then had to pay for it? Go here for a drink and maybe an appetizer, but don’t go there expecting a lot.

Had heard some very good things and the experience started well with a quick delivery of the food. Unfortunately, that was as good as it got. This was one of the worst meals we’ve had in some time. Even worse than a lot of the local Chinese delivery joints. First thing we opened up was the shrimp scampi and just taking it out of the bag there was a fish smell, and not a good fish smell. Taking the top off the container didn’t make the smell any better. Never had a shrimp scampi smell fishy. Decided to still eat the dish, after all we were hungry, and one of the shrimp still had the intestines with poop on it. Scary they couldn’t even clean the shrimp properly. The rest of the shrimp were rubbery and definitely didn’t taste fresh. We put the shrimp to the side and the pasta, broccoli, and garlic wine sauce tasted off, probably from the shrimp, and had no seasoning. We also ordered a pasta dish with chicken, which the best I can say is it didn’t taste like we’d get sick. They couldn’t even get simple things right. I ordered penne pasta but got fusilli. The sauce and chicken were bland as can be, felt like they just poured a can of crushed tomatoes into a pot and cooked it without adding any seasoning or herbs. I had to put salt and a lot of parmesan cheese to flavor it to get the food down. Finally we had some garlic bread that seemed to have no garlic and wasn’t very crispy or toasted. You can probably guess we definitely won’t be back and can’t recommend. Plenty of other places in the area that are a lot better quality for the same price.
