Horrible experience by everyone in my group. Rooms have paper thin walls. You can hear a mouse sneeze from a block away. But that wasn’t the problem. They failed to clean the rooms more than half the days we stayed. We assumed they just didn’t do that here if we stayed more than one night. They also gave our rooms away while we were gone for the day. This was after 3 conversions with them specifically telling them not to check us out, and that we would be staying until a given date at a minimum. I personally had 2 conversations and a phone call, and a voice mail clarifying the matter. A group of 8 of us stayed for business and will not be staying again. Someplace else in town will have out business.

We had a pretty rough four days in one of the cabins here. There many areas that were lacking. The units are old timber and seemed a bit like oversized Lincoln logs. This looked cool, but meant no insulation. We were warm enough, but could hear every action or word spoken outside. We were woken up if a neighbor came in late or left early. We were unable to get the wifi password until our third day because no one was at the desk and they didn’t return our calls. Finally the beds and furniture were ancient. My girlfriend and I had to sleep in separate beds because the frames and mattress were so old and worn the slightest movement from one would shake and wake the other. Also the fridge froze all our food, even when adjusted to its warmest setting. On the bright side, no bed bugs, and we had turkeys and deer in the yard.

Warm n cozy log rooms. Always friendly and helpful staff, clean, quiet rooms. Family and dog friendly. My favorite place to stay when visiting the Twisp– Winthrop area.

Wow, this place is a blast from the past. Little cabins with tiny kitchens and extremely reasonable prices. Not fancy at all, but pretty sweet.

I was very disappointed in my room it was too rustic and dark for me and a little on the grungy side. I was in a room facing the river lower level. You can’t see the river from your room. But it is a nice yard area. We had a pet friendly room and it had stains on the carpet, Yuk! I don’t know how they clean these rooms they are very dark and depressing. Won’t stay again

I stayed here this weekend while in town for a family reunion. The cabin was a great little place very comfortable, and the staff was extremely hospitable and friendly. I definitely plan on visiting the resort and staying here again in the future! I’m a photographer, so I’m planning on maybe some fall visits to capture the fall colors!

We were looking for a cabin rental in Winthrop that was pet-friendly. We booked a cabin at the Virginian through Central Reservations. The rate was very reasonable at $ 99 per night for the Virginian cabin(one bedroom with a queen bed and two twins in the living room). No additional fee for pets. The resort is of course, rustic and western themed. They offer cabins as well as rooms. Located less than half a mile from downtown with East 20 Pizza to the left and a gas station and Red Apple Market on the right. Very convenient location. The owner was welcoming and friendly along with his staff. The cabin was clean and included fresh towels, soap, TV with cable, heat and air conditioning. I wish there had been a sofa along with the dining table in the living room, but they did advertise it with two twins. Each cabin had a designated parking spot next to the cabin and a lawn with picnic tables fronting the porch. This was great for our dogs. The Methow River is right behind the two-story structure that houses the guest rooms. It was nice to see a large grassy area for larger pets. However, it was full of dog poop everywhere. It made an otherwise pleasant walk to the river feel like walking through an obstacle course! Pick up after your pets, people! Maybe the new owners should put signs up… It may help? Continental breakfast is included with your already reasonable rate. They offer pastries, fruit, yoghurt, bagels, cereal, milk, juice and coffee. WiFi is also complimentary. If you are not looking for 4-star accommodations and just need a simple, clean and friendly place to stay that is bargain and pet friendly, the Virginian is the place!

Well for the money great. Yeah it’s a bit run down but friendly and fun. Sometimes it looks like mining camp on the weekends when it if full up and there are so many cars parked around but it totally quiets down after 10:00 pm. People have been in the wilderness and active all day and they sleep at night so it works for me!

My buddy and I were doing some backpacking and had been off-trail for three days, bruised and battered, looking for insects(we’re both entomologists). We emerged from the wilderness and desperately needed a place to nurse our wounds for a night. We arrived in Winthrop late on a Friday afternoon and the Virginian was the first place we could find that had any vacancy. We were very happy with their rates(two queen beds for $ 89) and although the room was simple, it met our needs just fine. There’s free wifi, a free continental breakfast(surprisingly good for what it was), and friendly staff. All in all, it was cute and cozy. Nothing fancy and very few amenities other than the wifi and breakfast(not even a phone in the room), but I’d definitely stay there again.

Must say it: Dusty non-paved parking, musty room and high school grade construction throughout with bad coffee, no hair dryers, and absent staff. Motel is still for sale, restaurant & bar still closed. But, it is reasonable, clean enough, and the continental breakfast was fresh & complete. Our room faced the river and had a nice view. Old west décor was mostly thrift shop & stick furniture. Room did have a small refer & microwave but no utensils.

It wasn’t bad here. It was great that they had people in the office late night on a Sunday. We probably wouldn’t have stayed here if it weren’t for the fact that everything else in Winthrop was full. While the price was good and the room was clean, something about it had me on edge. It wasn’t comfortable, and not in necessarily a physical comfort way, but in a mental comfort way. Maybe it was just the fact that it was almost 10pm and we were just driving into a town we hadn’t seen in the light, or the fact that it was still outside despite the fact that it was still 80 degrees. But it was clean and available. They have little cabins available as well as single rooms. We might come back and see if we can’t get a cabin.

A little bit of background: I was road-tripping to Vancouver for a conference and needed a place to stay, but, more importantly, a place to find a delicious burger. I did not realize both these requirements would be nailed at this one place. Not only do I eat just one big meal a day, I also happen to be very picky about what that meal is. Because of these quirks, I wanted to find a restaurant in the Northern WA area that I could really kick-back and enjoy a hearty and delicious burger + fries at for a few hours. I had actually heard of the Virginian’s burgers from a friend who told me that they were not only delicious, but also made with organic, local produce. I was very intrigued, as I am also somewhat of a ‘localvore’ and prefer organic, high quality ingredients in my food. So, I planned to stop at the Virginian for one of these well-known burgers, even though my friend had suggested them, I was still wary. A really good burger is like a really stunning sunset– sure, most sunsets are nice, some are really good, but only a few make you speechless. The verdict? Damned fine! It was such a deliciously rare burger that I dare say this place should have a star on tourist maps of the area. Burgers like this are simply not found often, and I do consider myself something of a burger connoisseur. The fries were perfectly crisp and salted and the pre-meal salad was even delicious.(Only thing, they don’t take credit card, I had to use an ATM machine next door. So bring cash!) Staff were really friendly too, so I ended up getting a room here as well(partially so I could get another burger for the road the next day). The rooms are very clean and spacious, had free wifi and everything. I must say, I will certainly be stopping back at the Virginian not only for a relaxing stay in their quiet accommodations, but more importantly for their f’ing delicious food. A rare gem! Must try!

Four and a half stars, and first notice that Google has these guy’s picture, but they misname it, actually referring you to another motel. Built in the 70’s just after Highway 20 went through, this rustic resort is all nicely constructed of thick and lovely wood, next to the Methow River, and very appealing. Not just for their reasonable rates, but for the overall experience. The main building has a relaxing lounge which is a nice retreat from the heat. The establishment is up for sale, and I figure that is why the bar and restaurant are not currently operating. No problem since the adorable town is well equipped. There are seven cabins and 31 more rooms, all made from local wood and quiet, and all under $ 100, the low end at $ 69. You can also rent monthly for about the cost of a week. Great spot to home base for exploring the gorgeous North Cascades Natl Park. A few perks: You can call ahead and arrange a late night arrival with the really friendly staff. You have your basic continental breakfast, WiFi, and picnic tables in the shade right above the river. The other half star will be there once a few minor room improvements kick in and the restaurant and bar open up. No doubt the new owners will kick it uphill, and I hope this review will help others to find and enjoy this peaceful paradise, cuz I am definitely coming back.
