I booked a room after researching their pet policy. They advertise as «Pet Friendly». When I arrived to check in they said they only had to rooms that allowed pets and both were booked. I asked if I was going to be charged for the room and the clerk said no. I was charged anyway and I called the manager. He advised me that I should have stated that I needed a room for a pet when I made reservation through Priceline. No where on Priceline or the Fern Hotel website does it ask this. The manager was rude and refused to help in any way. Just by the looks of the lobby, I believe you could find other hotels that are much nicer at a better price. I would not stay here.

A dear friend of mine had asked me to find her lodging last minute on a weekend that was booked solid in the Wisconsin Rapids area. After digging through more hotels than I care to think about, I found these guys and they had 1 room available. Based on their website(fresh appearance), the mention of being recently remodeled, and a spattering of reviews I found, I figured this would work. The person I spoke with to make the reservation was pleasant and took all of the information. Fast forward to that evening. I get a call from my friend that the hotel is absolutely a disaster. The lobby smelled, the lights in her room had pull chains they were so old, the room smelled, the curtains weren’t even having properly. She’s a pretty down to earth easy going gal. Even with that — there was no way she was staying here. She immediately returned to the front desk and requested a refund after listing off the problems with the room. The only reason it gets two stars instead of one is because they refunded her no questions asked. The individual at the counter(she believes the owner) even said — Oh, I guess I should update that room… So, apparently some rooms are renovated but she didn’t see it. I would, if you’re going to stay here, check to see if you can look at a room before reserving. Perhaps the renovated rooms are nice but in this case it was the other end of the spectrum.
