Walked in on a sunday, there was one other customer and two hairdressers. I specifically told the girl that did me that my hair is normally curly but I ALWAYS straighten it and wear it no other way. I told her I just wanted my split ends trimmed, so she cut them, seemed confident she was done so fast, but then sent me out the door with my hair wet and very curly. she asked if I wanted curling cream before leaving and I said«no thanks», she laughed and said«you’re probably going to go home and straighten it aren’t you?» Uhmm yes, of course I am. So I then get home to blow dry and straighten it myself and then notice it’s COMPLETELY and obviously uneven on each side now, like an inch shorter on one side. Just butchered looking. One side is also much more blunt, while the other tapered. Showed the lady at the desk it looked terrible and I asked politely for a refund the but apparently that’s «against their policy», they offered a fix but I didn’t want to ever have anyone there touch my hair again. I mean it’s cheap here, but that’s what you pay for.

I walked right in and was able to get an appointment. Courtney was very nice and did a great job on my hair and did an even better job with my little boy who waited in his stroller next to her station. I will definitely go back.

Salon Universal in Wixom used to be Fantastic Sam’s. They ended their association with Fantastic Sam’s last year and became Salon Universal. Many of the same people are there. This was one of the better Fantastic Sam’s when I visited and it is a very nice independent salon. There are always plenty of stylists on hand. I have never waited more than 10 minutes as a walk-in. They are a full service salon, although with what little hair I have left, I have only used them for a haircut. I do notice a nice mix of clientele though so i suspect they do a nice job with everything they offer. Men’s haircuts are $ 15.00. All day Tuesday men’s haircuts are $ 10.00. They have all chairs manned up for this so still no wait. If I had one suggestion it would be that the stylist accompany the client up to pay. Currently the tip is left at the front desk for the stylist. Call me old fashioned but I like to hand the tip to the stylist in person and thank them for a job well done.
