Rented a truck last Saturday for a move. They told me they did not have a 15′ available so I took a 10′ truck. When I walked in the lot there were plenty of 15′ trucks but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Because I took a 10′, it took me two trips so I ended up with more miles. At $ 1.39/mile, it cost nearly $ 200. Fine, whatever. What really irked me is how you return the truck to Uhaul. You drive the truck under a canopy, wait in the truck and an employee asks you to test everything in the truck. This is not a customer’s job. This is a company trying to save time and money. I have rented from other Uhaul’s before, and have never been asked to do this. Won’t go here again and i do not recommend.

I STRONGLY suggest that you do NOT go to this location. There are other U-Haul locations nearby(Stoneham: 2.5 miles away, and Wilmington: 4 miles away). Wherever you are coming from, I can assure you that it will be well worth whatever difference this makes for. When I arrived to pick up the truck I had reserved, the manager– Ray– denied having spoken with me to make the reservation, but said he would check if there was a truck available– fortunately there was. Upon reading other reviews, it appears he has a history of overbooking so it now makes sense that he would be hesitant to acknowledge that we had made a reservation. When we got our truck, he gave us an unusually meticulous list of things that were not covered by insurance and would result in a surcharge being applied to the bill. I use U-Haul fairly recently for business purposes and something about his disclaimer did not sit well with me– frankly I got the impression that he was granting himself impunity from the appeal of any surcharge, warranted or not. While there ultimately was no damage surcharge, there was a fuel surcharge claiming the truck was returned without a sufficiently filled tank. I have always taken a «better safe than sorry» approach when returning trucks and put four gallons MORE than advised by the fuel chart before returning the truck. My credit card statement also confirmed that enough gas was purchased. Based on the trucks estimated MPG, the amount of gas Ray claimed was missing would have required roughly 2.5X the mileage that was actually put on the vehicle while it was in my possession. Not only was the basis of his explanation of the surcharge untrue, it was grossly and blatantly untrue. While I can’t claim to know his intentions, I will say that I found his claims to be so abundantly false that it would be difficult to be THAT wrong by accident. Especially the rant about surcharges he went on before handing over the keys, I can only imagine how many other people this type of thing(read: scam) has/will happen to without their noticing. Regarding the other reviews posted today: It’s pretty convenient that glowing reviews of Ray AND the store’s cleanliness/organization pop up the day after this was reported to Ray’s boss!
