Really fun atmosphere. If you like the rustic biker bar vibe, you’ll looove it! Mostly outdoor seating, with just a couple of tables and a bar inside. Most likely if you come by, Stan will come by and greet you… or maybe that’s just for the pretty people. He is an «interesting» guy, to say the least, kind of a colorful local landmark. The food gets 4 stars. The meat is always fall-apart tender and it smells amazing in there all the time. I like the loaded pulled pork baked potato. I’ve tried the pulled pork sandwich, the ribs and the chicken– all very good. It’s all got a very smoky flavor– some people enjoy that, but it’s a bit much for me. The sauce is OK– you get a choice of sweet, mustard or hot(don’t quote me on that…). Overall, I’m a fan, and seeing how its basically the only restaurant in town, I’m sure I’ll be back.

Oh man, this was some real deal BBQ. Exactly what you would expect from an eclectic roadside shack in the middle of nowhere, right? My boyfriend and I were on a road trip to Florida over the holidays and found ourselves craving some BBQ while passing through Georgia. I found this spot on Unilocal and we decided to try it out. When we arrived, I was a little hesitant to go in due to the fact that the building was pretty much a shanty, and tons of motorcycles were parked outside, giving off a «bikers only» vibe. However, the smell of smoke and BBQ was so enticing that we put on a brave face and went in. I was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and cool seating area out back, including a full service bar and live music. I could have sat there for hours and gorged on ribs and beer, but we had to get back on the road and got our food as take-out. I had the spare rib platter with collard greens and baked beans, and my boyfriend went with the pulled pork sandwich. It is hard to put into words how perfectly smoky and tender both the ribs and pulled pork were. The ribs were especially delicious with a salt and pepper rub out the outside that formed a nice crust. The collard greens were meaty, tender and very flavorful. The baked beans were perfectly cooked and still had some texture to them. If you find yourself in the area, make sure you check this place out!

Wow what a treat! So glad that we found this gem on Unilocal — it did not disappoint. We stopped in for a late dinner on our way back from Florida to New York. Everyone was so friendly. The owner(I think) came by a few times to check in on us, the waitresses were friendly. There is a huge fire pit in the middle of the backyard and an amazing band playing live music. The band was really good! The fire pit kept us(and the kids) warm, and so did the heat lamp. This restaurant/bar was filled with mostly locals so it was a truly amazing experience for us, to eat like locals do. As to the food everything was delicious! We don’t eat pork so our review is limited but we had the Cole slaw, hamburger, grilled cheese, chili, grilled shrimp, and the pulled chicken bowl. For dessert we tried the key lime pie and cheese cake, with fresh brewed coffee. All was fresh and scrumptious. We all thought that this experience was one of the highlights of our vacation. Thank you!

The perfect atmosphere for barbecue with the family. We Unilocaled for a lunch reference just in time to exit 95. Crispy ribs were among the best ever. The streaming vibe of Ray LaMontagne the perfect compliment. Our service was attentive and pleasant — and more then tolerant of the little kids floating around. We’ll be back on the return trip.

Stopped in here based on Unilocal reviews while traveling through. We were not disappointed! We had the ribs and the trinity bowl. Both were smokey deliciousness. Complete with the tell tale smoke ring, the ribs were mouth watering and soothed my southern soul. The peppery, crispy crust on the ribs was on point. Coleslaw and potato salad were creamy and flavorful. Although the bbq was deeply satisfying, the service and atmosphere are what makes this place a special gem. Get off the highway and seek it out. Genuine friendly southern hospitality from the bartender and the Pit Master upon arrival and throughout our stay. We were greeted and treated as if we were locals. The outdoor bar and eating area is an eclectic hodgepodge of mismatched tables chairs and oddities and I mean that in the best way. After licking the spicy bbq sauce from your fingers, wander on over to the Georgia holy water and give your hands a rinse. Don’t forget to scratch behind the ears of the house pup who you’ll find under a picnic table waiting for you with a waggy tail. Our only regret about this place is that we are not locals.

Thrilled to stumble upon this place! My husband and I have been traveling a few months and have decided this may be our favorite spot to date! We tend towards the local/quirky/delicious and this knocked all three out of the park. 1. You will probably be the only one from out of town, and will be welcomed with open arms and a ‘sit wherever’ — when this happens SITOUTSIDE!!!(See 2.) You get peanuts to start and if you’re lucky like we were, an awesome waitress named Kelsey will bring you a piece or two of chicken to let you know what they are all about with the meat smoking. 2. I found the outside seating down right enchanting. It’s cozy and airy at the same time. Picnic tables are nestled next to artwork. Christmas lights and lit utility buckets are tented by a parachute hanging above. I’m a little(whole lot) obsessed with the whole place. 3. Finally the FOOD! I got a beer steamed hot dog with cole slaw and chili. Un-freaking-believable. I can’t remember the last time a hot dog was more than enough food. I eat a lot of hot dogs. I’m pretty critical of them in a restaurant. This did not disappoint. I never really found the bun, I’m assuming it was under there, I ate it with a fork and knife. Truly everything you could want in a hot dog. Just a note on the chili: it was delicious – just not what I was expecting. It’s a lot of red and yellow peppers, very chunky, very good. My husband got a grilled cheese and tomato on Texas toast. Pretty tasty, I think it was velveeta cheese, but I can’t knock it, darn good! All in all you just can’t not go. It really feels like a special place filled with laid back, friendly people. Highly, highly recommend.

A hidden gem! If you’re passing through, get off of 95 and go directly to Stan’s. The BBQ is incredible and the people are great! Stan, aka ‘The most interesting Man in Georgia’ is a one of a kind and a great host. Do yourself a favor and go.

Dozen local oysters was more like two dozen! Local oysters, small but salty, tasty and fresh! Slaw dog was one of the best I’ve had with a split dog on grilled bun and homemade slaw. The Holy trinity with beans, slaw and brisket is outstanding.

I heard all these great reviews about this place. So on Saturday night a group of 10 of us went for dinner. First of all the place is a dump. If you like hillbilly atmosphere, sitting on old picnic benches, and getting your soles of your shoes caught in the green«carpet«they have rolled out on the ground then this place is for you. Second, the restrooms you need to make sure you have an updated tetanus shot before walking in. Third, the service was horrible. We waited 20 mins to get our drinks ordered then 25 mins to receive them. Then we had to wait an additional 20 mins for our waitress to take our food order which she still messed up. And almost 30 mins to receive our food. Fourth, over priced and taste horrible. I’m sorry but I had better tasting food eating in a tent served ice cold and flavorless. After everything was said and done we were there 2 hrs and we had to go track our waitress down for our bill. The only upside to my horrible experience was that the band was pretty good. But not worth me coming back.

This place is located in a real Southern town, staffed by real Southern people and serves 100% real Southern food. The food is like nothing I have had in years. They are just 4 miles off of 95 well worth the extra few minutes.

I’m so glad we stopped here! My husband is always trying to explain to me what good bbq is and I finally understand. We showed up around 2pm on a Friday and there were only a few customers at the bar. I assume we were laure for the lunch crowd and early for dinner, but we were in the middle of a road trip from Sebastian Florida up to Charleston and this looked like a great place to stop. Our waitress was super friendly and happy to make recommendations. We ordered a Boston butt sandwich and a half rack of ribs for the two of us to share. We also ordered greens to sort of balance things out. All were fantastic. The ribs were smoky and savory. Butt sandwich was good especially with the yellow sauce. Besides the food the outside patio had such a cool atmosphere. Funky decorations and well worn picnic tables, and parachutes for shade. We loved it and we were totally charmed. I bet it’s fun as a bar at night, too. We’ll have to come back and give the live music a try.

People drive by and think«who wants to eat at a place with a dirt floor?» People who haven’t eaten at Captain Stan’s, that is. This is by far, easily, hands down, the best barbecue in Camden County, and possibly Glynn/Nassau/Duval/Charlton. Stan is a great entertainer, and has lived a crazy life(he’ll show you the photo albums!) The ribs are on point. The loaded baked potato is a meal itself. Note: There is no fryer, so you’re not getting french fries or fried anything with your order. Live music sometimes, great staff and food all the time.

The ambiance, butt sandwich & ribs were amazing. Stopped here after checking out Unilocal and could not have been happier. May have to stop again on my way back from Florida.

Captain Stan is a Jersey boy who had a vision for a smokehouse restaurant that could never have been built in Jersey(too many ridiculous EPA regs). So, the result is that I have to travel 871 miles to get the best barbeque in a setting straight from Mark Twain. I will be there this weekend on my way to FL. Worth the trip!

Always a great spot for a COLD drink. The food is awesome. If you ride bikes make it a spot to stop on your ride.
