Everything that Michael P.‘s review said and more. We came for a wedding of someone whose family has been coming for the last 50 years. Everyone at the resort knew them and all the staff would finish their shifts and hang out with the guests. I can honestly say that I haven’t been more comfortable at a resort in a long time. The cabins are fantastic. The lodge is a place where you can hang out all day and night and still be comfortable. Plenty of places to play on land and an entire lake to your disposal. They’ll bring in tennis pros, water skiing pros, fishing pros, you name it. They’ll make you anything that you want to eat – just thinking, is this place heaven? If you want a fun getaway with the family and/or friends, think about this place, but make sure to book in advance. Families come back here year after year and it might be tough to try and get in.

The fact that the lodge has been open, under the same family management for 140 years, and I am the first review says something in itself. We found Coon’s at the recommendation of a family acquaintance and didn’t know what we were in for; boy I am glad we did! We were greeted warmly at reception without a trace of phoney familiarity and shown to our cabin. The cabin was built in 1923 and was beautiful, comfortable with luxurious sheets and towels and comfortable mattresses. The cabin was situated right off the water front with a huge screened porch. We were the only new comers at the lodge with the rest of the guests coming for generations(no kidding up to 4!) My wife and I are somewhat reserved in our activities. We never felt or were treated like outsiders for even a moment. The other guests were warm, nice, friendly and terrific to be around. If you can judge a man by the company he keeps, and judge a resort by the quality of it’s guest then this alone deserves 5 stars. This is the Coon’s family 4th generation running the lodge. I believe hospitality is a gene, inherited not taught; the Coon’s have it in spades. It never felt forced or inauthentic. The staff was the same way. My wife is a bit of a picky eater and whatever her request the answer was always«absolutely». The food is incredible with choices from decadent to healthy; every bite delicious. Notes: the lodge is BYOB so come prepared. The guest’s dress for dinner, we packed a little more casually and no one bated an eye, next year we will come prepared. Please don’t mistake«dressing for dinner» as a code word for stuffy it isn’t, it just harkens back to another time where there was intention around family meals. My kids are already making lists for our next return.
