Jan Pearce is a magnificent horse/rider trainer. She was trained herself by the best and passes it on daily. I have worked with her for two years now and continue to enjoy her incredible work ethic, joyous, authentic & funny personality and extraordinary lessons & horsemanship. Both my teenage daughter and I ride with her and Jan found the perfect horse for us both to share. We are both making big improvements to our riding in a methodical, established and safe manner, thanks to Jan. Highly recommend her!

I’ve been riding with Jan for nearly two years, and my husband saw how much fun I was having and began taking lessons with her a year ago. We both love it at JPT! Jan has a wonderful diversity of riders – from beginning kids to teenagers jumping over 1 meter, to lots of adult amateurs – and has experience with helping people learn and advance at any level.

Long overdue review to say how grateful I am to Jan’s program for restarting my riding(I should say relearning as an adult after nearly a 30 year break!) on her fun lesson horses. My boys were also very lucky to start their riding on Jan’s lovely, safe lesson pony Sweet Pea. They’re 2 of probably hundreds of children who have got the bug for riding on Sweet Pea — she’s one in a million!

Jan and her staff have a deep knowledge of training riders and horses. Jan has school horses, horses to begin showing on, and top competition horses. She can teach you right from the beginning.

There is only one trainer I would consider for my daughters(ages 15 and 11) and that is Jan Pearce. If you are serious about becoming a great rider(especially equitation) then you should ride with Jan. Even if you are just starting out, Jan has great horses to learn on and a very flexible training schedule. And, if you have your own horse, the care is full service and high quality. Based on a referral from a friend, we started with Jan when we moved to California. My daughters successfully showed with Jan in the Hunter ring winning many firsts and champions. She is a consummate professional.

Jan Pearce, horse trainer, is thorough, professional and truly cares about the well being of both horse and rider. She specializes in the hunter, jumper and equitation divisions of equestrian sports. She is a long-time resident of Menlo Park and has had her business at Portola Farms in Woodside for 30 years. Last year, her riders won the Zone 10 Equitation Finals and the CPHA Child/Adult medal finals(both champion and reserve). I rode as a pony kid growing up in LA with a couple great trainers then didn’t return until during college and now as an amateur. I’ve ridden with a few trainers and, after all these years, I still learn so much from Jan from every lesson. And thanks to her thoughtful training, I was champion at all three shows in my division last season(no easy feat for an old hag like me!). There is also a great pony and young child program with the help of assistant Teri Anderson. The kids learn how to trot and canter in the large, private, grass field. There’s also a pony camp that does more than babysit — the kids actually learn about horsemanship with visits from the vet, the farrier, etc. The facilities are quiet and private, very different from the larger training facilities nearby. Two covered arenas and a large, outdoor arena. Plus, a nice trail for after your lesson. Only 5 minutes off the 280, exit Sand Hill.
