I’m going to let you in on a neighborhood secret… the meat at Strohmer’s Farm. Folks in our neighborhood have been buying and dividing shares of succulent, delicious moo cow for years. If you have a chest freezer, I highly recommend buying a nice big share and storing it for the best price. If you don’t have a lot of space but want to try some delicious local beef, pork, goat, chicken, bacon and eggs check out their Meat Shack on the weekend and buy a few items at a time. Info on their CSA shares is available on their website. The quality of the meat is fantastic. This is pasture raised, grain finished beef — no hormones, no antibiotics. The chickens are free range and the last pig I saw there(in the fall) had a ton of piglets and looked like a fat happy momma. They partner with another farm near Thanksgiving to provide delicious local turkeys at a reasonable cost without waiting in crazy long lines to pick it up. We’ve gone the«natural market» route and tried a farm in the Maple Lawn area for turkeys and the lines and wait times were ridiculous. This was an awesome experience; we got a personal phone call to ask when we wanted to pick up our turkey — my husband drove down, shook hands, and got our delicious bird. I was very very pleased with the quality and he was pleased with the experience. Really, I can thank Bud Strohmer & family for many great meals at our place. Their meat is my secret ingredient — burgers, steaks, roasts, chilis, chicken marsala, my pork carnitas — all made better by using the best quality meat I can find while also supporting a local business and family. If you’re into shopping local and are concerned about the humane treatment of farm animals, this is right place to put your money where your meat-eating mouth is. The Meat Shack is open Friday 4PM-7PM& Saturday /Sunday 11−3PM Bear in mind when you go, this is a working farm. There are animals, farm equipment, chickens and dogs running around — the real deal, not a whitewashed pseudo-farm experience. The Strohmers are nice, friendly people with a great product to offer. I definitely recommend stopping by to «meat» your local farmers. Sometimes you can even meet a cow. Moo.
