Mike’s Dugout recently moved to Wooster from their intermittant operation in Creston. Located on Rt 585, it’s not going to draw traffic like in Wooster’s north end so their service and food will be what brings people in. After my lunch there today, I am not so sure how long it will last! One server and another random person were in the dining room along with about 5 tables of customers. Part of a party of 7, we arrived just after noon. Our server did not ring our meals in until 12:30. With the end of our hour lunch looming, we started getting antsy. The pistol of our group was fuming, the former servers at the table started considering a 2nd job as servers at Mike’s. Our meals came out one or two at a time, most missing their requested items or made wrong(no onions) Of course, we knew checking out was going to be a fiasco. The server returned to the table calling out the various banks on the credit cards, tossing the cards and slips in the general direction of their owners. One who paid cash never saw the change she was due. Yes, we called in later — most of us still eating our lunches later into the afternoon. All we were offered were apologies and 25% off our return visit. To their benefit, when the place is dead, the food is good. But can good food, when you have 5 minutes to eat it make up for crappy service?
