I’ve really enjoyed this place for years. Recently went in on a Sunday night for an equally enjoyable experience. Ordered the spinach artichoke dip which is phenomenal, and the chicken quesadilla appetizers. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that our waitress was OVERLY attentive to our table which surprised me considering there was a decent amount of people there that night. While trying to enjoy appetizers and drinks with friends, it seemed at times as though we were being rushed out as she came over every three minutes to check on us over an hour and a half timespan. Other than that small qualm with that, everything else was great and I will still be back again.

I’ve had good experiences here in the past, but this place has gone downhill — fast! The bartender was a bit of a cocky a**. He was being rude to a lot of customers, but I don’t think he knew it. He seemed pretty oblivious to everything going on around him. We don’t have any crazy expectations for food, we expected bar food. My fiancé ordered steak, medium rare. He was told it only comes out medium well. Weird, but ok, he still ordered it. It tasted like steak that was cooked yesterday, refrigerated overnight, and re-heated, it was really bad. We didn’t complain though, we were still in a good mood. After eating my fish, which was decent, I find a long black hair wrapped around my asparagus.(FYI, I’m blonde.) I informed the bartender, not looking for a discount or anything, and as I mentioned before — I’m not normally one to complain. An apology would have been nice, or maybe some replacement asparagus without hair. Instead, the bartender accused me of placing it there. I left a $ 2 tip on a $ 50 tab for the first time in my life.

The drinks here are good, most of the food is pretty good, but the service is totally hit-or-miss. On my most recent visit my friend and I shared the nachos for an appetizer. They are loaded with cheese and chili and veggies. Most importantly, they are expertly crafted so that each chip has something on it instead of all of the toppings globbed in one spot. My Caesar salad was okay, not the greatest nor the worst I’ve ever had. My friend ordered ten-cent wings, which is the reason why we kept going back. On this particular visit, the service was lacking in a serious way. There is no host, so we seated ourselves(which, when he finally saw us, seemed to startle our waiter). It took a little longer than normal to put our orders in, but once we did, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. When we finished eating, the waiter dropped off the check and disappeared for 45 minutes. I wish I was exaggerating. After 45 minutes, a different server came over to cash us out. Maybe he was having an off day. Lucky for him, we weren’t in a rush, but another customer may not have been so understanding.

I went on Friday, February 26th to Funky Murphy’s for drink with 15 coworkers. There was not a bar tender to be found. I had to go back in order to find the bar tender, eating dinner and shooting he breeze with coworkers. Now the woman is ignoring our group. I really couldn’t get worse service.

I just called to ask about their dinner specials(because they alway have great dinner specials) and the girl that answered the phone asked me to call back because she didn’t know!?! How sway!?! She told me about the 2 for one prime rib, when I asked how much she asked me to call back at 5pm. I am wondering how hard it is to place me on hold and ask someone… I have had their prime rib before and it was delicious and a great value. However her blatant lack of customer service was a huge turn off! Hopefully they learn how to teach their staff not to act and speak like grafton hill’s finest!

Food is amazing! Service was great as well. We ordered mini burgers which were so juicy and yummy. We also got nachos which were all crispy nachos instead of soggy nachos. We’ll definitely be back! :)

I ordered food from there menus off the website and it said $ 10.00 for fish and chips and $ 8.00 for boneless wings when I got there to pick the meal up the bartender said $ 24.50. I showed him the website and the prices on it and he had the balls to say to me «I don’t care what it says on the website its $ 24.50» I told him that it’s false advertisement due to the website he said«I don’t care pay the $ 24.50 or I will keep the food!!! Don’t ever eat this place there bartenders are very disrespectful and don’t care about the customers they only care about the money. Keep your money and go eat at some place else.

I came here with a friend for lunch and in the back of my mind were those old, funny, shady, low-production value commercials this establishment used to have on TV. The actual pub is not much better than those commercials. The service was slow(understandable because it was during the day and the pub was likely short-staffed), but friendly. The beer selection is nothing to rave about, and the food quality was mediocre at best. My friend and I ordered two burgers, which didn’t taste fresh and which were definitely overcooked to the point of being dry. It wouldn’t be fair to expect gourmet burgers from a place like this, but a properly cooked burger is certainly an expectation. Given the location, I had higher expectations. This pub falls very short of the standard set by Greater Boston Area pubs like Russell House or Five Horses Tavern, which delight the college crowds in their respective areas(a pity for Worcester’s college students). No doubt, if you’re simply looking for a fun place to drink with no high expectations for your food, Funky’s will be just fine. Otherwise, given the alternative options on Shrewsbury St., there’s no reason to go out of your way to come here.

I walked into bar at midnight and was told I was«stumbling» too much to be there. They should change their hours of operation. Very rude and homophobic staff. I am writing this as soon as I left because I am very disappointed in my experience.

I wish I could leave zero stars. I’ve been to this bar many times– during the weekday lunch and dinner, weekends lunch and dinner, and late night. It’s typical bar food nothing spectacular. My friends who work there say the kitchen is disgusting and I believe it. The drinks are pretty weak considering and I’ve always witnessed someone being mistreated by the bouncer or bartenders, and have personally experienced it myself several times and my friends have had bad experiences here as well. I also think it’s ridiculous that a bar in Worcester, ma has a dress code. I was wearing a $ 500 necklace once and was told I couldn’t wear a chain in there. I don’t wear chains I’m not a hoodlum I was wearing a classy expensive white gold necklace. I also recently went in for lunch to sit on the patio this summer and it was 97 degrees outside so I wore a $ 75 tank from Bloomingdales and $ 200 jeans and was told i couldn’t be served inside or out because of the dress code. That’s silly! You’re denying business and losing money when I obviously have money to spend. It’s not like I’m a homeless person walking off the streets I looked amazing head to toe. The attitude of the people at this place is ridiculous and they treat you like the scum that they are. For the most part they are unfriendly. There’s a few good servers but I’m sure they quit already. The old bald fat bartender told my friend who is Spanish that they weren’t hiring for bussers when the he mentioned they were opening another location because business was doing so well. A little racist but whatever. That’s not even the worst this guy has done or said. The people here are jerks and set unreasonable standards for a basic bar on shrewsbury st. I’ve traveled all over the world and have had better service at nicer and dumpier places and was never denied because of my outfits which are always on point. This place is a joke and I wish they would get their act together because they have a lot of potential.

Went to Funky Murphy’s for the first time last night, and I was impressed! I had the prime rib off the specials menu, and it was only $ 9.99. It came with teriyaki glaze, peppers, onions, and was cooked perfectly. Drinks were decent. A bit higher priced than some of the local bars, but it is definitely worth stopping in for food and a drink. Also, the outdoor seating was a huge plus, as it was perfect weather. My friends and I will be returning in the near future.

Came here for an afternoon lunch and a couple of beers with a friend for the first time. Initial impression, love the location and love the outside seating and open windows. Definitely a college hang out. When we entered, no one greeted us or told us to just sit where you like, which is apparently how it works here. We sort of assumed after being ignored that it was a sit yourself atmosphere. Once we did a waiter came over quickly and took our drink order. The beer selection isn’t huge, but they have all the important staples. The nacho appetizer was huge and delicious. We also ordered the pilgrim wrap and fish tacos which were both very good. Pricing here is also incredibly reasonable. 4 beers, an appetizer, and two entrees for $ 48(before tip.) Three stars is for the mediocre service, as stated no one greeted us and paying the bill took much longer than it needed to. It’s also very hard to tell who actually works here as everyone wears plain street clothes. I’d like to come again to give the service a second chance because the location is really cool.

I had gone with my girlfriend on the the Red Sox opening day to the bad. I’ll start off with the experience started off good. We had a few drinks. We had a female bartender, and she was great. She had asked us if we would be interested in ordering some food. So we had ordered a couple burgers. She had mentioned in 10 minutes they would be having 10 cent wings. We had decided to order 20 wings. Shortly after our order the«wings» came out. But to our surprise the were full sized drum sticks. Kinda did t want that much chicken! So we had a few and then our burgers had come out. The bartender had switched to a male bar tender who was kinda rude. We had ordered a couple more drinks and finished up the game. After we had received the bill, we had asked for a togo box for the remainder of the chicken to take home. He rudely«No way. We don’t allow people to take the chicken home». We had informed him our original bartender never told us that and that we never saw anything about that. Plus we had ordered wings and not drum sticks. There was a lot of chicken left over. I said to him that the bar had falsely advertised wings and I had gotten drum sticks. If I had know. That I wouldn’t have even placed the order. He still refused to let us take the chicken. So I’m wondering what happened to all that untouched chicken that I paid for went to. I had attempted to contact the owner numerous times and to this day still no response. I had been going to this bar for a while now and I can definitely say that I will never be returning again because of poor customer service.

Well my post has a disclaimer because I stopped in here for lunch on Easter; it was one of the only places open. Therefore, my service was fast, the food was hot, the place was clean, and the portions were large. I honestly have nothing to complain about the fish and chips were cooked perfectly and the turkey wrap was great with a savory stuffing.

A decent place to catch a game, meet up with friends, or play bar trivia. I’m sure it was fun on weekends, too, but I never made it out this way since there aren’t many other places nearby to hop around to if you’re looking to have a night out. My coworkers and I would come almost weekly for the trivia, and there was usually a decent turn out. The drawback was only how late it started/ran(usually 9 – 11PM). Prizes were giftcards to Funky’s. The food is nothing to write home about, but if you’re hungry, it’ will more than do. The waitstaff and bartenders were always friendly and helpful. They often had decent deals and inexpensive drinks and apps, too.

I went to Funky Murphys last year for the first and last time. Couldn’t get lunch special price without buying a soda or snapple which I can’t have because I’m diabetic… OK. .but they were out of diet soda! Fine. .we wanted a few appetizers from the menu which they were out of… of course. Waited forever to get the bill, then to top things off a girl that works there saw that we had our table cleared but instead of asking if we need our bill proceeded to ask me to move out of my seat so she could open up the big window they have there! I was so mad, that I was going to make this my first review on Unilocal but sadly is my second :(

I used to come here frequently, but I’m not sure why. Its a decent place to watch a game, but the service is iffy and the atmosphere is weirdly nightclubby. The beer list isn’t bad, they usually have something from Wormtown, but I just can’t give this place 3 stars. The food is pretty standard bar fare

I have been to Funky’s many times, one because I know the servers so to all the people complaining about the service you should know that these people are worked to the bone. They are always understaffed, always, because well the owner kind of sucks and even though he comes off as a nice guy he under staffs to save money. On top of that they never get to have vacations, they are not allowed any holidays off even if the are religious, they have to ask for a day off a month in advance, oh and there are cameras everywhere to watch them so they always feel like they are under the knife. You know those substitutes you want in your meal? You can’t get them because the server can’t give it to you, you can’t get them because the owner doesn’t allow it, and the know it. You try to sub something out you are going to get fired its just cut throat in there. When I go my service is good because they are my friends but also because I know how busy they are, how understaffed they are, and know that there are only 2 – 3 girls for the whole restaurant. For those complaining about sitting at the tables and not getting service– they have a policy. If you order from the bar they come ask you if you would like anything from the menu, if you say no the policy is that you do not wait on them. Your money and tips are going to the bar tenders so the servers are supposed to work on the people who are eating. If you say no i don’t want food, chances are they aren’t going to come back to you because they are not supposed to. In terms of food i think it’s okay– the fish and chips is delicious, the calm chowder makes my stomach hurt, and their wings are not wings– drumsticks are not wings so don’t false advertise. I like the prime rib and their specials are usually alright but it’s nothing amazing. Oh and, if you wear any jewelry that is too big and religious or certain colors or styles you cant go in– they have a dress code for customers to get rid of gangs Also they had a great bar tender and server that they people loved– friendly people, they just recently let them go without explanations– which is most likely due becuase they asked for days off. If you treat your staff miserably and work them like dogs they will act like it and the reviews obviously show for it.
