My «Honey» and I decided to have an early dinner at Pomir Grill. It was our first visit, but it will definitely not be our last. What a great find! The décor was very inviting and pleasant. We arrived a 5PM and noticed that every table had a «reserved» sign on it. We were informed that on weekends reservations are a must from 6PM forward. Because we arrived at 5PM we could be seated because we would be finished our meal by 6 – 6:15PM before the reservation parties would start arriving. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Our order was actually taken by the owner/executive chef. He brought three dipping sauces that complimented the very tasty and warm fresh baked bread that he also placed on the table at the same time. We could have made an entire meal on that wonderful bread alone. We began with the spinach Sambosas. They arrived perfectly done and hot. The dipping sauces were also an excellent addition to the Sambosas. For the main course we both had the Beef Short Ribs. The ribs were boneless and were paired with a fabulous rice that was mixed with carrots, raisins and some wonderful mild spices. The meat was melt in your mouth tender with a wonderfully delicious pomegranate sauce on the side for dipping. We both chose to dip the beef as the combined flavors were rich and completely«comfort food» satisfying. A side salad of very fresh and crisp greens were also included on the large serving platter. The portions were healthy, but not overly large, just right from my perspective. All the flavors, from the starter, to the marvelous bread, to the dipping sauces through the entrée items were fresh and worked perfectly together. I delightful dining journey for our taste buds. The service was prompt and attentive, but never invasive. We never were rushed. At the end of our meal the owner came to our table and asked how we liked our dining experience. We had a very nice conversation with him for several minutes. Pomir Grill was a totally enjoyable dining experience for my «Honey» and me. We are already planning our next visit. Oh yeah, we will be sure to make a reservation so as not to miss out…5 start recommended!!!

My partner and I first dined here a few years ago after they had just opened up, and I am so happy to see how popular it has become! The family who runs the place is so sweet, and the food is absolutely phenomenal! The beef short ribs(served with rice and a delicious in-house pomegranate sauce) are particularly incredible; they are bursting with flavor and are so tender there’s no need for a knife! Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite restaurants in New England. Recommended dish: BEEFSHORTRIBS «Afghan boneless short ribs on sautéed onions and tomatoes served with an in-house pomegranate sauce and rice»

Lovely place with delicious food! We started with the spinach Sambosa appetizer. I had the lamb shish kabobs and my husband had the meat lovers special. Everything was yummy. And the staff people all were warm and attentive. We’ll be back!

Pomir Grill has such great reviews that maybe my expectations were too high. I didn’t enjoy the food very much, it was just okay in my eyes.(Or my tongue) LOL I thought the rice was very dry, wasn’t a fan of the seasoned rice, it had too much of a cinnamon taste to it. The spinach rice was better but not great. The chicken kabobs were good, juicy and flavorful and the Mangthu which is the beef filled pasta was enjoyable but overall I was disappointed. I also tried the meat lovers plate and wasn’t a fan. I think because I’m more of a savory eater and the stews and meat were more on the sweeter side. Wouldn’t be my first choice but not a bad place. Staff is very friendly, looks like a small family owned restaurant.

Tried this out with my wife. First off its BYOB whoch definitely will save in the wallet. Service was excellent. Décor is nice. The restaraunt is small but its simple. If theres a loud person in there, you will definitely hear everything they have to say. Food was really good. I really liked the bread with the 3 sauces to start. I apologize but i cant remember what we had as im writing this a few weeks later. All i can say is that i do remember finishing every single bite. My entrée was excellent. We did get a pastry appetizer. Forget wich one lol. Very tasty though. The only issue is that i can see parking being a pain in the arse on busy nights. But thats pretty much all of shrewsbury st. So if you lije trying new types of food and appreciate fresh ingredients they give em a try. We are glad that we did.

Food, 5 stars, atmosphere 3.5, service 3.5(friendly but slow). Arrived on a Sunday evening for a 7:30 p reservation for four, the restaurant was full but our table was available and the only empty one. The restaurant seats about 40 – 50, felt sterile and«gray» and appears to be family run. We saw two waiters, one male and one female, and one female hostess at the counter. It took about 5 minutes for the staff to address us after we stood there waiting to check in. Two of us arrived on time, the other two were circling the restaurant for parking. The restaurant is located around several bars and appears to only have street parking. A few of the nearby lots were reserved for other businesses. Our waitress brought menus immediately and asked if we wanted to order any drinks or appetizers, we chose to wait for our other party. As we were reviewing the menu, our waitress informed us there was only one more serving of the salmon kabobs(which they only serve on weekends) and served the warm bread with three dipping sauces, one yogurt based, one herb/mint based and one BBQ based. It took another 20 minutes(7:50 p) for the other half of the party to arrive. Though the waiters were in and out of the dining room, it wasn’t until 8:30 p that our waiter came over to take our orders. Since we had been there so long, we skipped the appetizers and went right for the entrees: spinach and leek raviolis, vegetarian sampler, beef kabobs with seasoned rice and salad and I also wanted the beef kabob but was informed that they only had enough for one serving so I asked if the one serving that was available earlier was still available. She didn’t know and said she’d check and asked for an alternate… I replied chicken kabobs. She never came back to inform me which I was receiving until the meals were served… about another 30 minutes later. I ended up with the salmon(cooked to perfection) with a side of spinach rice and salad. All of the entrees were delicious and just the right size. A GREAT introduction to Afghan food for all of us. We definitely enjoyed the food but the slow service can be improved upon. Overall a 4 star rating. I wanted to try the almond cake but it was getting rather late. Total tab around $ 87, water for drinks, no appetizers or dessert.

What a lovely restaurant and incredible meal. The food is tasty and the experience is unique. You honestly feel like you have stepped into someone’s home and it shows in the warmth of the owner’s daughter who is describing the menu explaining which dishes are her grandmother’s recipes and how her father carefully grills the kebabs. To top it off the Pistachio ice cream is delicious and HANDMADE. Don’t let the simple décor throw you off. Here it’s all about food and family.

We’ve not been here for several months and needed a Pomir Grill«fix.» Dinner was as fabulous as always. The vegetarian sampler plate was great. Awesome variety and a large serving combine to make this not only delicious but a very healthful choice. My companions each had the chicken with sour cherries entrée, a go-to dish for both. I repeat my previous advise about Pomir Grill… Don’t go and expect to be finished eating in 45 minutes. Good food takes time. Be prepared to wait… Your patience will be rewarded in spades.

The food was not my usual but was very good, although I cannot speak to its authenticity. I had the meat lover’s delight and it was all superb. The people with me got chicken kebobs, banjan borani, beef kebob, and another meat lover’s delight. We also had bamia and qurooti as appetizers, of which I preferred the qurooti but once again both we excellent. So far we can conclude you should eat here and basically cannot go wrong with the food. So now for a couple beneficial things. It is fairly small with perhaps enough seating for about 24 – 30 people. They take reservations so if you’re going at a busy time like we did(Saturday) I’d recommend making a reservation(which we didn’t). The staff consists of two cooks and a single waitress/hostess so take this into consideration that the food while worth the wait will have a wait. It is also very quiet in there so if that’s what you’re looking for than it’s perfect. Finally it is BYOB.

Great, family style place– really it’s just a woman in the back cooking and I believe her daughter up front serving all the tables and doubling on hostess duty. The service doesn’t slack either. The bread they bring out with 3 different dips to start is delicious. Mainly the dips. Tried the vegetarian sampler platter and was very satisfied with everything. Still lots more on the menu I’d love to try!

Pomir Grill Afghan food. Street parking. Restaurant clean and well organized. The woman that runs the place is the chef, waitress and everything else. The Bathroom is clean. We had reservations for 4 and table look amazing wine glass and water all set up. This place get really busy during the weekend so its best to make reservations. Pomir is BYOB lowering the bill. Wine glass, wine opener is provided. Food are priced well. If you forget to bring alcohol just go to the next door liquor store. Disappointed, we didn’t had a chance to try the famous okra dish as an app. For appetizer, we had the Sambosa which puff like pastry and spinach filling which comes with 3 different sauce deliciously flavor burst in your mouth and Banjan eggplant with bread was yummy, great portion for big group. Maybe next time I will try the beef Sambosa instead of spinach. Will definitely come back.

This week we decided to stop in at Pomir Grill while spending time with a friend in Worcester. This was our first time trying Afghani food and after dining here we were happy with our choice. The restaurant was nice and since we dined on a Monday afternoon it was completely empty. The waitress was incredibly polite and the good was phenomenal. We tried their Sambosas and meat entrée. Everything was great and we hope to come back in the future. The only critique was that the receipt was a bit pushy stating that we couldn’t split the check more than prices and in multiple locations it «reminded us» to not use our American Express.

The food was nothing like I’ve ever tasted, the appetizers alone gave me the impression this food is about to be amazing! When I ordered the Meat Lover’s Special, I asked the waitress what rice she recommended and she recommended I go with the spinach rice. I am not much of a fan of spinach but I decided to give it a try even though in my mind I already thinking up ways to avoid eating it. When I tasted it I was amazed that it was spinach rice that tasted so good, the meat’s were amazing as well, you could tell by the tenderness of the meats that it had been cooked very well. I also ordered the okra and pita bread and that to was nothing short of amazing, somehow they cooked the okra and allowed it to taste a bit sweet(but not too sweet) which was a nice taste. I also found that the owner turned out to be one of the former librarians as well so we talked briefly. All the food looked so amazing I forgot the original reason I had gone to the restaurant, because I wanted to know if they made Doner Kebabs… I saw a picture of one posted on chatango and have craved it since. Guess I’ll have to ask next time.

Oh my goodness! I can’t believe my wife and I just found out about this place, but it was well worth the wait. We had a 6:45 reservation tonight and had one of the best dining experiences that we’ve ever had here in Worcester. The flatbread with different sauces to start off with, then followed with the beef stuffed pastry and noodle soup… it was simply out of this world. My wife got the chicken kabob and spinach rice for her main course and I of course got the meat lovers with carrot and raisin rice. Seriously this was like Greek and Spanish food got together and had a baby, so fresh and total comfort food. If we could have taken the cook home with us we would have, ha-ha! I can’t wait to go back soon and hope that you check it out as well. As always, enjoy!!!

As a captious gourmet, I have to say PISTACHIOICE-CREAM here is absolutely worth 5-star!!! The moment you taste this fabulous homemade dessert after beef kabob entry, you seem to feel like there is a fresh breeze brushing your face gently, with a beam of leisure sunshine casting on your body through louvers during your afternoon tea time! The experience here was magnificent as either appetizers or entries I ordered here with my friend were stupendous! This is a home-style restaurant. The hostess cooks and even serves foods by herself. Thus, it will take a kinda long time for waiting but it is absolutely worthwhile!

Very incredible. This was my first try at Afghan food and I loved it. The bread they served at the beginning was warm and soft, and the sauces that came with it were mind blowing. The spices in the sauces were very unique and we wanted to scoop up every last drop. We got the Qurooti as our appetizer, and the portion was humongous. It was only $ 7, and we only finished ¼ of it. It was an eggplant dish on bread with drizzled yogurt/garlic sauce. For my entrée I got the beef short rib, and the meat split apart so easily It basically melted in my mouth and was wonderfully flavorful. My boyfriend kept eating my entrée because it was so good. He got the mantu(pasta filled with beef with a beef sauce on top). He enjoyed his dish, but it honestly did just taste like ravioli with meat sauce. Overall, I really enjoyed this restaurant, especially since it’s BYOB. The prices are very reasonable, and the portions are huge. Quality is also excellent. Only negatives were the slow service and the loud ambiance. There was only one waitress, and I felt bad for her because she had to wait on so many tables. It wasn’t her fault, but they definitely need to hire more help. The room was also booming with noise since they have hardwood floors, minimal decorations, and the voices reverberate off the walls. Even though I live an hour away, I think I would make the drive back here.

A satisfying meal, full dining room. It was clear they needed help on the service side of things as it looked as the husband/wife combo were waiting on tables and cooking. The meal was tasty, I had a meat dish with three different beefs. I wasn’t blown away, but the meal was tasty and I left full-ish.

This is a restaurant with truly wonderful food. And it caters for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters all in one place! Appetizers were truly delicious — carefully constructed flavors wash over you with every mouthful. Succulent slow roasted veggies melt with every bite. Then came the mains. Wow. Intense flavors explode with every bite. Caramelized veggies seasoned just right, and portions that were perfect. At our table, everyone was raving about the food! So we thought we’d try dessert. The Afghan Baklava was awesome — not sickly sweet like so many. And the Almond Cake — to die for! Even tried the eggless rice pudding. I’ve never had rice pudding that I would describe as refreshing, but this really was and it tasted great! Chai to finish it all off was perfect. I’d come back here any time. Only nit was the service was a hint slow, but hey, the food is cooked slow so it seemed only fair. Be aware it is BYOB, but there is a liquor store two shops down the road. A terrific foodie experience.

Came back here for dinner while visiting friends in early November. We had a chicken & a beef sambosa. Really good. All three of us ended up getting the beef kebob with rice. It was delicious & cooked perfectly. And we had the baklava with pistachio ice cream which was also very good. Another good, relaxing experience.

I read so many reviews that said to make a reservation, so I did. We arrived at 5:45 on a Friday evening and we were the only two in the restaurant nearly the entire time. To start my review, I drink A LOT of water. I am usually that pain in the neck flagging down the waiter/waitress a hundred times over to fill my glass. The very first thing they did at Pomir Grill was leave a huge, ice cold water pitcher at our table– SCORE for first impressions! Second, the deliciously warm complimentary bread came out and we were very happily surprised. The 3 sauces were each quite good, but the green, fresh herb sauce was an incredible compliment to the bread. I tried the Aush, a noodle/veg«soup» and opted for the beef sauce. I think I should have gone with the veg version on this because it just tasted like a chili that needed salt. It was the only reason my review is 4 vs 5 stars. It was just«eh». The Kofta meatballs in plum sauce just melt in your mouth. I would compare them to Indian Butter Chicken, in terms of consistency, but they are beef. Not sure how they keep all beef meatballs super soft and moist, but they were very deliciously complimented by the sweet plum sauce. My husband ordered the lamb kabobs and was very happy with his choice. The lamb was certainly of good quality and perfectly seasoned. I am Middle Eastern and know my lamb. I can say for sure Pomir Grill can do lamb! The rices, both the spinach and the carrot/raisin were right on point and were the perfect sides to the stars of the dishes. Homemade Pistachio Ice Cream loaded with pistachios and a hint of rosewater… What more can I say? The almond cake was saturated in a similar honey/butter sauce that resembled a nice moist Baklava. My husband ate every crumb. We were very happy and will absolutely go back again!
