The Reverend Dr. Steak, the Young ‘Un and I have been«Family Campers» for three years now at YMCA Camp Tockwogh. Family camps are held over Memorial Day weekend and again in August. They are a time when families — small, large, extended, can come and enjoy all of what Camp has to offer. Family camp is one of our favorite weekends all year. Accommodations vary from rough cabins with nearby washrooms to the Tickwogh Conference Center featuring rooms with ‘en suite’ full baths and a large common area. All locations have electric power. Meals are served ‘family style’ at designated times, this is the only slightly off spot. It’s camp, so the food isn’t gourmet, but even for camp food some years it’s not great food. It is, however, plentiful. Activities range from swimming in the pool, horseback riding, archery, field games, frisbee golf, climbing wall/high ropes/trapeze swing & zip line combo, arts & crafts, nature hikes, etc. The real highlights are the waterfront activities — sailing, sea kayaking, canoeing, waterskiing, motor boating and tubing, all run by very patient ant enthusiastic counselors. Or, you can just hang out on the beach or anywhere and read a good book. Talent show night is always a big hit in hokey fun, and beach party night is usually a great time too. Bring your bicycles as the camp is over a mile long and everybody gets from A to B via bikes.
